What is the difference between the MCAT (US) and the NMAT (PH)?
Getting in to a medical school is difficult regardless of where you apply.
Here are the differences between the NMAT and the MCAT. Note, it’s been 5+ years since I took my MCAT and NMAT and so there might be new updates. I am only speaking from experience.
I used a Kaplan self-paced online review course to study for the MCAT, scored a 515 (I believe at that time this was a 95th percentile). I don’t remember the exact breakdown of the score. But I do remember, surprisingly, that my highest score was on the social sciences/psych part of the exam.
For the NMAT, I only used one NMAT reviewer, and that was so I can get a feel for the questions they will ask and for the spatial reasoning and logic/IQ test-like portion of the exam.
I can no longer recall the exact breakdown of my NMAT scores, I just remembered that I scored a 99+ on it (this range is pretty much the highest you can get).
Subjects covered are pretty much identical, both exams are in English, and pretty much just test you on your basic science knowledge. Which is an incredibly wide scope. There are plenty of videos that explain each exam on youtube, so I just wanted to share my experiences with the exam 5+ years later.
I took these exams 2-3 months apart. I took the MCAT September or so of 2017, and then the NMAT was offered in October or November that same year.
So let’s go through the basic FAQs:

Hey all! Different kind of video for this week. Less polished and more introspective. When this video gets posted, it’s the weekend before my 28th birthday. And I’m glad to be able to spend it with my husband. If you’re reading this, I’m currently in my airbnb with him and my cats chilling by the pool and hot tub to beat the summer heat. I’m grateful for all the things that has happened to me i...
How the “I don’t dream of labor” movement damaged my mental health

Hey y’all. I watched a video recently (I’ve seen plenty of videos like this) that talked about how much of our lifespan is spent doing things that is not “living your best life.” And that made me think about the “I don’t dream of labor movement” and how that philosophy has negatively impacted me in the past two or so years since it gained traction. Maybe it’s very old school of me to think this...

Hey all welcome back to another video! On this week’s episode of Road to Residency, I’m going to talk about part time jobs as an IMG and how to get them, and also which ones to even apply to. As stated in the video, the advice only applies to those who can be gainfully employed in the US, meaning you’re either a citizen, a green card holder or a work visa holder. With that said, the next thing ...

An IMG's Road to Residency | Ep 04: More USCE

This week I had another full week of observerships. I didn’t get a chance to edit last week’s vlog so I decided to just lump it into one giant vlog. So in total, so far, I’ve had 3 weeks of observerships, 1 week in UC davis, and 2 weeks in Sutter Health. I got these observerships through personal connections, and through these connections I’m securing more observership and volunteer opportuniti...

Hey! I figured this video will just be quick and straight to the point. So I didn’t bother editing it or filming with my tripod. But also, I’m staying at my parents’ place so I don’t have access to my usual filming and editing gear. So yeah, please bear with me. I touched on this a little bit in my video “I passed the OET so what’s next?” But I guess I didn’t go in depth with what I did exactly...
