      Not to my knowledge I’m afraid. I run a “Noodl Show & Tell” every second Friday in the Low Code Foundation Discord server, and we get a new surprise app every time at the moment. I put the recordings up on my channel afterwards so stay tuned and you might see one! Just a thought: one challenge with an SPA maker like Noodl is the product page won’t be a ‘real page’ so search engines won’t pick up the product pages easily. Might be better to stick with something like Wordpress or Prestashop.

    Thanks for that Rick, this was much needed. I got the impression that the software was something that had been in development in the past, but had run into problems with commercialisation, but I didn't know for sure, as it was hard to get the background story. As you briefly mentioned, what I'm trying to use Noodl for is to learn how to develop software in a fun way. I already tried to learn coding in the conventional way, but it was incredibly boring. They say you should learn by building things and solving problems, so Noodl looks like it will allow for that to happen quite quickly.

    Hi thank you so much for the step-by-step guide on setting up Noodl! Near the end of the tutorial you showed us how to set up the production backend. I followed to that point but found that the dashboard for the production backend is blank. It seems to be a permission issue. The AppRunner is not able to reach MongoDB Atlas. Is there an IP I can use to allow in MongoDB Atlas or should I allow traffic from all IPs?

    • @simple-rick-tutorials
      @simple-rick-tutorials 18 днів тому

      Hey Zack! Sorry for the wait. I hope you’ve already got the problem sorted but just in case: The solution would be to set up the IP access on Atlas as you said, instead of allowing 0.0.0.0 aka open access. The issue is I’m not sure AWS app runner gives you a fixed IP for the container. It looks like the solution is using an AWS VPN to set a static IP for outbound traffic aws.amazon.com/jp/blogs/aws/new-for-app-runner-vpc-support/

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate what you've done here. What this video showed me is that yes, it's possible to do this stuff on your own, but that I'd rather pay someone a monthly fee to host it. At 38:00 the Did Mount signal does not actually trigger the filter for some reason, it only gets triggered base don the component input, any idea why?

    • @simple-rick-tutorials
      @simple-rick-tutorials 3 місяці тому

      Filters will run spontaneously on page load only if nothing is hooked up to their "Filter" signal input. As soon as you hook something up to the Signal Input of a node, it will only run when that specific signal is fired, it won't run spontaneously on page load anymore. We'd need to hook the 'Did Mount' signal from the page element up to the 'Task Item Changed' input of the Header component, for example, to reconnect the page loading signal. Does that answer your question?

      AppSmith at the moment is for building internal tools / dashboard apps and requires a lot of coding to connect it with a back end. Noodl allows you to do the same coding if you want, but with prefabs and cloud nodes you don’t have to. Budibase same issue, more for internal tools, data visualisation, that kind of stuff. Noodl is for building public facing PWAs, like online stores, learning platforms, mobile apps, etc.

    awesome , does it work on Linux ?

      It sure does but only building from source at the moment. There are talks in the Discord community about building an installer for Linux but it’s not done yet

    Great tuto Rick! Very "clinical" as you rightfully say. And good conclusion, saving at once in the end would further the optimization. However, since we can reasonably expect that the task app will have a few pages, when one comes back to the "header" home page, the query to the server will run again. How could we make sure the query runs only once, when the app "initializes"?

      This is a very good point! Thanks for bringing it up. Often in this case i would put the query at the “App” level, instead of the “Page” level. This means it will only run on full page load, and not when “routing” the user between the different page components of the app.

    Very awesome! Quick question, how is the performance with say 5000 tasks to do. Is there automatic table pagination?

      Hey there! Glad you liked it :) So if you use the Noodl back end, it’s basically just a Node server running JavaScript, so the speed of running tasks is as fast as your server can handle. I haven’t stress tested it, and of course it depends on the complexity of the task. But there’s no particular Noodl magic slowing down the back end as far as I know. As for pagination, there’s very little that’s automatic in Noodl I’m afraid! I’m sure someone will have a prefab for pagination in the Discord community. But yeah you have to get help or build it yourself
