Some disheartening news. I have another infection.
I have some disheartening news to share. I have another infection. This time in my jawbone and root canal, and sadly my insurance won’t cover any of the procedure I need this week to hopefully fix it. Similar to what I experienced with my ultra-rare osteomyelitis case, I have an abscess inside my upper left jawbone area as the bone dies due to the infection. The longer I wait to operate, the worse it will get, so this operation is urgent and necessary to preserve my bone, face, and mouth.
This is incredibly frustrating as I’ve been working hard to try and rebuild a lot of my life over the past year after all the traumatic experiences I’ve had with my health and otherwise. We’re hoping the infection is stemming from a failed root canal, but since my osteomyelitis case had no known cause, we are approaching this situation with caution.
For over a week the pain was excruciating due to nerve damage and an abscess which had formed from the dying bone. I could hardly eat, and the pain made it very difficult to sleep even while on different medications. I was prescribed an antibiotic which has helped keep the abscess and infection more under control for the time being; however, this is simply a band-aid to the problem.
I have a procedure scheduled for this Thursday to hopefully fix everything. Since it is technically in my mouth, I must go through my dental insurance. I found out the other day that my dental insurance won't cover any of the procedure, and the doctor requires payment in full at time of operation. All of this has me worried, stressed, frustrated, and feeling a little defeated again.
I’m doing my best to stay positive and not worry, but this experience is bringing up a lot of the trauma from my experiences last year with the rare bone infection in my chest. To be completely honest, I’m exhausted. I just want a break from the fight. As some things in my life have improved over the last 6 months, I’m once again being slapped in the face with more health stuff and bills.
I know this is just another setback that I will have to overcome like I’ve done so many times before. I am strong and resilient. Hopefully this will be the last of my health issues for many years to come.
So here I am again setting aside my Leo pride and humbly asking for help. This is never something I’ve wanted to do; however, I know I can’t make it without the love and support of you all. If you have the means to do so, please donate to my ongoing GoFundMe (link in bio).
Throughout my health struggles I’ve learned a lot about myself and about the power of community. It is a beautiful thing to see how people band together to help others in times of need. I just saw your initial (?) post on Facebook and am of course concerned about your struggle, your recovery, your heart and source of support. Do you have family and friends to be THERE with you? I am far away, but wishing I could be one of those people to listen to you, share the burden (somehow) and perhaps even give you moments of humor and inspiration. So many battle illnesses and other struggles...I'd hate to think yours was a solo path. I wish ALL THE VERY BEST FOR YOU in whatever comes. Eric that was a gut wrenching story I'm so sorry about your spine and your football career I am also gay but I never came out in high school, But I pretty much did after high school I join The army which is a good place for me there is lots of gay people there anyway lesbians and gay people Like U at the age of 30 I know that's older than you but it's the prime of one's life And after surgery I ended up in a wheelchair for 5 years I currently walk with the aid of 2 canes at tell I have the walk now around my apartment or use one cane, . It is amazing that in my whole life I have never known anyone who is gay. As an asexual it's totally different as nobody really sees asexuals as a threat.
