Thank you !🙂
There’s something I love about playing 50s 78s on a gramophone. It’s wrong yet so right at the same time!
78s would more or less end production in the late 1950s in favour of the new lightweight 45 rpm records . The MGM record in this video was released in 1958 & the Decca gramophone was built in 1956, so although the chapter for gramophones & 78s was drawing to a close it's still good to hear them ! 😄
ANOTHER GREAT ONE!!! Thanks for sharing!
Many thanks Rowan !🙂
Love this kind of harmless nonsense, similarly Benny Hill ditties and Frankie Howard
Sounds great 😊
Thanks, glad you liked it !🙂
That’s my grandfather, it’s nice to hear thus stuff. Thank you
That's really great to hear, he was certainly a great musician, so pleased you enjoyed hearing the record !😊
Perfect!!!
Thank You !🙂
Very nice
Thanks , glad you liked it🙂 !
Fantastic!
Thanks Rowan !🙂
very good !!!
Thank you !🙂
Bob Mallin sounds a lot like Jimmie Rogers. That is spooky.
Could it be that he was trying to copy him ?
It is possible that he had a voice like Rogers, and Decca Records talent scouts scrambled to get him signed to a recording contract. By the early-1940s, the trends in Country music were changing. Such a music artist as this one could no longer be successful in the Country Music genre. The overall sound became more band-oriented.
@@LaptopLarry330 Yes, you could well be right ! 🙂
Gorgeous machine! Nice clean copy too
Thanks for your nice comments ! 😊
May I have your address please?
I would like to purchase this kind of HMV gramophone..where can I find it?
You can usually find gramophones for sale on UK Ebay 🙂
Thank you for your reply. Do you sell Gramophone?
Actually I leave in Bangladesh so I don’t have so much idea about London. But I have friends in London and Bristol they will work for me.
@@zakirahmed7619 No , I'm sorry I don't sell gramophones, but as I said there are usually plenty for sale on UK Ebay , so if you have friends in UK , have a look at Ebay & you should be able to get one sent to Bangladesh . Good Luck ! 🙂
@@RichardPGE thank you very much for your nice cooperation and suggestion ☺️
Hello !! Your gramophone is very nice !! I am looking for a motor for gramophone Decca junior 1928 N° 57 because I have a tooht in the motor housing containing the leaf spring which is broken. Do you know anyone who would have one ? Kind regards Philippe in France.
Try Tim Weeks. tim@gramophoneguru.com ( +441243811992 ) Regards Richard

Great stuff……. Sitting around the bandstand in the Park. 🙂
Exactly, been there many times in my young days !😊
Beautiful!
Thanks Rowan ! 🙂
Great advice from Florrie ' Fall in and follow your Uncle Bob.'
Why Not !🙂
The sound is amazingly clean.
Thank you !
mayfair camera too 😊 very posh
Well I suppose in back those days , if you smoked enough fags you could play the gramophone whilst you took your photos ! 🙂
May Fair records seem hard to find. Perhaps owners had smoked themselves to death to qualify for the gramophone. Wonder who actually made the machine & soundbox. Looking at mine, it seems good quality.
@@tiga4180 It looks like it has the garrard 20 motor. It may be a mishmash of a bunch of different parts
@@Looney3987 It has the No 14 motor. The Garrard No 20 motor & the No 14 are identical & will interchange ( as far as I'm aware the only difference is that the spring in the 20 is a bit longer )🙂
Just been listening to your May-Fair Paul & it's sounding great ! They're certainly a well made machine, fitted with a Garrard No 14 motor & a Swiss soundbox , they can pack quite a punch & are well worth having in your collection !😊
@@RichardPGE Thanks for listening & the info. Got it from a friend who had it for years, not realising its quality.
@@Looney3987 A successful mishmash by the sound of it!
What an interesting machine! I've never seen you post it before, is it new to the collection?
I also have one & have posted it on my channel. Would love a copy of 'Smoke Gets In Your Eyes' to play on it 🙂
I've had it for a few months Rowan & thought it was time it had an airing !
Lovely! I first heard this on an LP box set a couple of months ago and loved it. I’m hooked!
It was often played on the radio in the nineteen fifties !🙂
A nice gramophone. They also had their own record label (Which you probably already knew.) between 1931-33.
Not come across this one. The reference to the BBC suggests its a song of around the date of the record. Every Florrie Forde song I've met on Imperial has been a music hall revival.
Found it in a pile or records I came across recently Paul !🙂
Love her records 😊
Definitely, she was a great performer !🙂

Great music and scenne 😍

Wonderful
Thanks Rowan , glad you liked it !😊
I have to get myself one of these sweet little machines... haha :)
For a small machine they pack quite a punch & also (like your Decca 50) use the Garrard No 20 motor .🙂
Truly an exceptional little machine! Thanks for posting, Richard !!
Thanks Rowan !
Wonderful! Nothing like a good Guy Lombardo record. What's your all-time favorite record that you have in your collection?
To be honest Rowan there's so many I like, but probably my favourite one would be "The Wheel Of The Wagon Is Broken" which is a 9"Crown recording by Rossini's Accordeon Band which was the first record I possessed when I was a kid in the 1950s . It was a song about cowboys which was a subject that all small boys in the UK were crazy about in those days ! 🤠
I’ll have to give that one a listen!!
Yay a Decca machine!! Nice video, thanks for posting!!!
Thanks Rowan ! This Decca is just a slightly later version of your machine , it has the same Meltrope soundbox & also the same Garrard No 20 motor the only difference being that it's an angled wind version . 🙂
That's so cool! I thought it looked familiar :)
Amazing! Thank you ❤🏴
Glad you liked it ! 🙂
Remembered the advert instantly! Those cornets do a grand job of sounding like bells. As for the gramophone, I believe it was a budget alternative to the 102. Soundbox diaphragm looks a bit different, but sounds great.
When I came across the record I had the same reaction remembering the advert ! You're correct about the gramophone Paul , it was the HMV 97 (a budget version of the 102 & there was also a Columbia badged version No 204) The soundbox is actually a Columbia 15A, the only difference being that the HMV version had their logo on the front cover of the soundbox ! 🙂
Absolutely wonderful! It sounds like it's playing in a ballroom or something!
Thanks Rowan , glad you liked it !🙂
Thank you for sharing this! My dad (born in 1910) used to sing the first part, up to "an expert at shooting the bull-o."
My pleasure, glad you enjoyed it !🙂
