@guyyoung4388 I paid 148.37 USD for mine after tax and shipping, but that's the lowest I've seen in a long time. Most of the listings I see for the gift box are between 175 and 250 USD plus tax and shipping.

@guyyoung4388 it's a nice set, but it's way overpriced for what you get. The standard 2-player starter set is much more cost effective. I still need to record the VHS at some point.

@Saijiki00 I lucked out with an eBay auction, but I was also in discussions with several other collectors regarding a private sale. I'm in several trading groups too. There's a lot of older stuff out there, it's just a matter of finding it and getting a reasonable price on it.

@jcbeck84 that's an awesome memory! 😄 They're pretty easy to find, but they're fairly pricey these days compared to 1995, but you absolutely should. It might be a fun thing to do with your brothers.

Nice! RoboRally is such a great game. They're great boxes, and they're big enough to hold sleeved cards IIRC.

@TheCaptianCruise I remember it was impossible to find cards until nearly Christmas that year too. I just played with the cards that I had from the convention until the hobby store near my grandparents house got their first booster box. I would walk there every weekend and pester the owner about Magic while he was playing Battletech. It still amazes me how much the game has grown since then. 😄

@@petespacks Yes truly unbelievable. I can still remember my little fantasy store where i went and bought my first Starter deck. The owner HATED Magic, as people do with so many things new, as he was an old school RPGor Board Game player or whatever. Wasnt in it as early as you, but glad i enjoyed the sunrise of what this game has become.... even i had a 22 year break in between LOL

@matt-lang I used to "borrow the extras" from our fish tank after washing them to have bigger ones that went with the ones from the Gift Boxes. They matched perfectly too! 😂

@everycolor6530 AND 2 REBs! 😄 Some really great pulls overall. I still haven't figured out why 4th Edition is getting so expensive, there aren't any huge hits in the set. There's only 5 hits over $10, and only 2 of them are over $20. I can't imagine that there's a huge demand for the set, and it's literally impossible to open it profitably. It must be the nostalgia junkies like me or greed driving up the prices.

@everycolor6530 I'm stoked too! I'm working on getting the Revised one too, they're pretty pricey these days though. The Pinfinity pins are cool, they're really expensive for what they are, but they are pretty nice.

@TheCaptainCruise this one was a weird one, I don't remember if it was sealed or not, but there were some rare instances of Japanese 4BB Starter Decks that were missing their rule book and had extra cards instead due to a packing and collation error. This was either one of those, or it was from a collection purchase, I honestly don't remember. 😂

@FirePullsMTG absolutely! I open every Standard legal set. I try to open everything that comes out, but sometimes that's just not viable. Assassin's Creed landed at a bad time for me, but I might loop back to it later on.

@ZackeroniAndCheese I'm a big fan of archiving and preserving old media. I have plans to eventually do gameplays of all of the starter sets. I need to get a workable setup for recording them nailed down, and convince someone to record the playthroughs with me. There are currently several other videos in the queue, but I'll get to it!

@ZacheroniAndCheese T Chinese and Korean both have a wider text box than the other language printings of 4th Edition, which I find appealing. Korean holds a special place in my heart, but I love all of the Asian language printings for 4th Edition. I use Japanese basics for my Standard decks.

@ZacheroniAndCheese I felt the same way with the Graveborn Premium Deck reprinting of Reanimate, Animate Dead, Entomb, Cabal Therapy, and a few others for Legacy Reanimator. I remember driving around for hours to track down 4 of them when they were released in the box stores. Good times 😄

@ZackeroniAndCheese Some of the magazines and even WotC offered subscription plans where you could get packs mailed to you every month which had Foreign language packs too. I had the Duelist pack subscription for a little while, it was awesome! The 90s were a wild time looking back on it, mail order boxes directly from WotC were a thing too.

@ZackeroniAndCheese Armageddon, Wildfires, and Wrath of God are also in Portal, along with several tutors. 😁 It was a different time, long before Commander/EDH.

@ZackeroniAndCheese yeah, sometimes they sell for a little bit more, but it's kind of like the 4th Edition Rivals/Introductory alternate print runs. Most people don't know about them, and they're not different enough that people really seek them out.

@TheCaptainCruise ok, to be fair Moss Monster and Living Land have VERY similar art and casting costs! 😂 But, you're absolutely right Moss Monster was in Legends and was not one of the cards reprinted in 4th. I mix up names for Raise Dead and Animate Dead all of the time, but I remember the correct effects based on the art, so it's all good. They're NM. I paid 75 for the box, the 4BB prices are a lot higher than regular 4th and I definitely did better than break even on it based on last sold listings on TCGPlayer.

@TheCaptainCruise Definitely a modified pack, but it was probably done quite some time ago, and there are 4 Rares (Dancing Scimitar, Living Land, Magical Hack, and Xenic Poltergeist), 10 Uncommons, 29 Commons, and 16 Basic Land, 59 total. It should have been 3/9/26/22 for a total of 60. It looks like there were some white cards replaced with green or red ones, and the Islands and Swamps are missing. @TheCaptainCruise oh, once you pointed it out I was laughing at me too! 😂 I took it as being all in good fun. The FBB/4BB Islands and Swamps were pretty popular for a while, they got up to around $25 each for a few years before WotC started flooding us with full art lands. At the time the Mountains were only 10, and Plains/Forests were 3-5, I can see why they would pull them. I put everything in a Moxfield list and it came up to 177, but several cards don't have pricing data, and I'm pretty sure it's pulling the Spanish prices which are much lower than T Chinese.

@Vanny_Dorito that started around 5th Edition if I remember correctly. There are several cards that have alternate art for Chinese markets

@@petespacks Interesting, yeah I've only ever seen Chinese alt art in these cases so it caught me off guard. It's easy to forget that '95 was near 30 years ago. Didn't have the same access to instant information like we do today and I'm willing to bet WOTC just didn't know about the taboo until they likely got some negative feedback regarding the skeletons.

Exactly, 4th Edition was the first set printed in Chinese.
