Like the sound of riding a chopper isn't loud enough, the engineer thought, let's put a Detroit on it

My dad had a belt drive welder that ran off the JD D pulley. Seems like the D only fired about every 5 minutes and that was the only time you got a good arc. Dad’s theory on welding was if you throw enuff rod at it then the weld would hold.

This is the only video I've seen that has the rear end bull gear noise in it, that is as much a hallmark sound of this model tractor as its two cylinder exhaust note is.

Ain't running right. It's misfiring. A Johnny Popper should run perfectly under a load like that. Could be several different things, but that right there would bother me off enough to fix it before using it again.

yeah. it could be anything from bad plugs to the carb needing cleaned/rebuilt. i had the carb on Dad's '31 professionally rebuilt and it runs excellent now.

I bet it would be very difficult to hand start it with it running so poorly. I’d bet they pull started it with another tractor. I’d definitely put some time and $ into rebuilding the carb, new plugs, wires, points, condenser and coil while at it.

While Dad was grinding grain with our D, I would stand in front of the exhaust and let it puff on my parka in random places. You can see in the video that the exhaust comes out here, there and every where.

Had one like that. Loved shoving the throttle forward lol. 3rn head was our weak point. Hard to keep it adjusted so it fed good.

80% diesel 20% gas? IF so thats pretty cool, I guess the mixture of gas would help get the diesel ignited.

These things were all fuel tractors. Once they get hot they were meant to run on kerosene or light fuel oil which is exactly what diesel is. They are really neat old tractors really.
