Wildlife with Luke
Приєднався 15 вер 2013
Amateur (meaning unpaid) wildlife photographer sharing videos, photos and Timelapse's mostly from Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. I am always trying to capture authentic moments of wildlife doing what wildlife does. To me this means that I must have minimal impact on all wildlife regardless of species. I find that it is just more pleasurable to learn about wildlife behaviour, seek out my own locations, and photograph wildlife without them thinking you are a threat to their existence. I hope you enjoy!
OSPREY DIVE IN SLOW MOTION
This amazing osprey hovers over the shallow estuary until it spots its prey. Watch as it slowly descends using the wind to carefully line up its final dive. After plummeting into the water, the fish thrashes around and the osprey struggles to retain its grip and pull out the big fish. Watch the see the full speed at the end of the video! It's crazy how fast this all happens!

4K Slow Mo - Osprey dines on a huge starry flounder!
Переглядів 82Місяць тому
An osprey was perched on a low hanging snag eating one of the largest starry flounders I have seen yet. I didn't get to see the dive or flight with the fish, but it must have been pretty amazing to see! This branch is really low and I imagine it chose this spot because the fish was too heavy to carry much farther. Hope you enjoy!

It's so incredible to watch osprey carry fish out of the water, but even better they fly directly back at you! This starry flounder that must weigh at least half of the ospreys body weight! Awesome!
4K SLOW MOTION - OSPREY DIVES STRAIGHT DOWN AND CATCHES FISH
Переглядів 5 тис.2 місяці тому
This osprey rocketed towards the water and absolutely smashes the water feet and head first. This osprey aka fish hawk catches a starry flounder and carries it back to the nest. These beautiful birds are only seen around Vancouver Island from April to September. They come here to breed and raise their young before heading back south to the Gulf of Mexico.
Momma GRIZZLY BEAR and CUBS - Vancouver Island, BC Canada
Переглядів 1,7 тис.2 місяці тому
When you go salmon fishing on Vancouver Island, a grizzly bear momma and two cubs is not what you expect to see! Black bears, of course and I look forward to that! But, my mood and comfortability changed immediately when this momma bear caught my scent or became aware of my presence - that's when she ran out and looked around. I was slightly downwind (or thought I was) and over 500 yards away t...
WATCH THIS OSPREY DIVE IN 4K SLOW MO VIDEO!

An Osprey dives into the ocean facing directly at me which is a rarity for me. Usually the wind direction depicts the dive and on this day I got lucky with an off shore breeze. The osprey comes up with a tasty snack and shakes the water off like a dog out of water. I love this stuff! haha
AMAZING DIVE! Watch this osprey hit the water at 40 mph (60km/h) and catch an English sole!

Amazing diving osprey hits the water hard and picks up a huge english sole fish. The video also shows the same osprey eating a fish in its favourite perch tree, then cleaning off its beak and feet before flying away.
AMAZING!! BALD EAGLE flapping its wings for the first time!
Переглядів 1352 місяці тому
A juvenile bald eagle testing out its wings for the first time! I've been watching this nest (from across the road and field - shot at 1150mm) on my way to work for the last month. I was almost late for work this morning because of it! hahaha.
SLOW MOTION Osprey dives into the ocean and catches a BIG perch!

I love watching osprey dive into the water at high speed! This one pulls out a large surf perch, shakes off, and flies right past me. Shot at 120 fps and 500mm. The actual speed at which this happened is almost too fast to watch so I slowed it down to 20% of real time. Hope you like it!
SPECTACULAR!!!! Aurora Borealis show viewed from Campbell River on Vancouver Island BC.

Aurora Borealis is rarely seen with the naked eye here in southern BC. This show was Probably a once in a lifetime experience for those of us on Vancouver Island, BC. I hope you enjoy my little video.
How cute is this baby barred owl sleeping on a mossy branch? Adorable!
Переглядів 832 місяці тому
My family was on a walk in a local park and alerted me to 3 baby barred owls and parent resting nearby. I grabbed my camera and heading out into the forest trail. This little cutie was having a daytime nap on a mossy branch. For those of you who are concerned about my presence, this was shot at 1150mm so my distance was very far away and not as close as it appears. Thanks for looking.

Awful audio. Cut it out. Should bre something majestic
mute it... the sound is what happens when video is slow down.
Shouldn’t be there at all. This is reality, not Hollywood.
@@theotherandrew5540 no this is UA-cam and I make my own content. If you want stupid songs and majestic music to wildlife go elsewhere
Light coloured black bears. Sorry, man. You didn’t see grizzlies.
Are you sure about that? The bigger dude that showed up later has a hump.
Incorrect. Those are grizzlies without the slightest doubt. They have been documented to be there before. BTW, other than black there are no other color phases of black bears on the Island. Black bears only commonly exhibit other color phases in the interior, not the coast with the only exception being the so called spirit bear or white phase black bear on the mid mainland coast.
Amazing Bird, and amazing photography!
@@frenz2enz690 thanks very much!! 👍
Very red Black Bears IMO.
They are Grizzly bears
They are grizzly bears without the slightest doubt.
Great footage Luke.
I live ...hunt...and fish on Vancouver Island and have done so for over 40 years...heard rumors ...never seen proof!! Amazing!!
@@85passthru thank you! have you heard that there are wolverines as well? Rumours suggest there are 👍
There weren't any wolves either until the late seventies. Now they are everywhere on the Island.
Nice clear video, well done. While it's tough to get a hard number on how many are on the north part of the island now, I've talked to some people who believe there could be as many as a couple dozen, but again that's not an "official" number from the MoE. For sure though it pays to pay attention in bear country, doubly so if it's grizzly country.
@@bc30cal99 thank you 🙏 yeah hard to say how many for sure. Definitely a few males and potential 2 females with 2 cubs. But… who knows 🤷♂️
Beautiful black bears.
Grizzlies, not black bears. These are among the very few who either made it across from the mainland or their parents did. For thousands of years, grizzlies were never able to colonize Vancouver Island, probably because they never reached a minimum viable population. They would need several adult females and some males to all make it across the straight within a short period of time, but so far that has never happened.
Nice capture
I did not know there were Grizzly Bears on Vancouver Island. I lived there for 5 years till 1992. Never heard of a Grizzly Bear on the island. Maybe they were on the northern part of the Island. I sure miss Vancouver Island. 😭😢. I used to drive to Port Renfrew. Nice drive.
@@TheMonk7423 yeah there are a few that have taken up residence from what I hear. It’s a pretty special place for sure 👍
There's also wolves which a lot of people don't know about either.
@@sciencegremlin8307 I had heard that there were wolves in the north end of the island. And Cougars, of course were everywhere. A cougar tried to grab one of the kids from the school playground, when I was there in 1990-92

nice start. hope you get many happy miles from the van
Hey thanks a lot! I know I will! Planning a trip to New Orleans from Vancouver BC. Should be... WILL be epic!
Luke, awesome progress so far! I've subscribed and will be watching for future videos. I have an 06 Sprinter and I'm doing the same work using the same products as you. It seems I've watched the same UA-cam videos as well. What thickness was the foam you used?
Hey MKE, thanks man! I really appreciate that! I actually bought 3 thicknesses. For some of the side cavities, I used 2" (50mm) rigid foam but other parts of the van taper in so I used some 1.5" as well. For the floor, I used 1" (25mm) because I didn't want to lose too much head room. I have just finished the flooring and the vid in the works! Hope this helps!
At the 0:19 mark of the video he says a word that it would be nice to feel all the time thanks. I want to marry Tiffany 6'2. I have a video of me donating 1600 worth of MADE IN CANADA clothing to UGM. It is 1 of 7. If you could LIKE or SHARE or COMMENT or even SUBSCRIBE this would be a good deed. THANKS
