The Pickleball Krewe is a group of four pickleball fanatics based in southeast Louisiana who get together once a week to discuss all things pickleball. Sometimes the Krewe will discuss particular areas of the game of pickleball and sometimes the Krewe welcomes a guest to the podcast. In addition, Jeff Fuscia shares his "Burr Under My Saddle", Vicki Winn has a segment of "Shout Outs", and Ken Winn presents a weekly "Tournament Previews" of locaL and regional pickleball events. Recently all three of these Krewe members have offered pickleball tips in the "Coaches Minute".

Interesting stuff guys. Way to go and keep it up
Love this topic! Can you guys address the difference in skill levels geographically, ie. a 4.0 in one geographic area may not be a 4.0 in another area.
Andrea, thank you so much for commenting.
Great drill
Thank you so much for your comments.
Looks like an upgrade from the previous facility. However, the nets are really low level. Why not invest in a better net? And yes, there's a huge difference between a $200 net and a $2000 net.
As always, thank you very much for your comments and continued support!
Another good episode. Drilling helps improve whatever technique you currently use. Coached drilling helps to improve limited techniques that prevent a player from leveling up. If technique is limited, all the drilling in the world enhances the technique and its limitations. One suggestion for playing with better players is to play a higher level in tournaments. Most players won't do that because they want the best chance to win. But once you enter the level up, they have to play with you. That often exposes weaknesses. Just playing with better players doesn't improve anything if you don't recognize how they beat you and go to work on developing. My last thought adds to the mental toughness topic. There are 4 phases a player must go through between points to create their ideal performance state (IPS) where they play their best. If any of those phases get skipped, a player cannot stay present centered in the IPS. I have a training system to develop mental toughness.
WOW Jeff, thank you so much for your comments. your insights into the game are always welcome.
@@geauxpickleball1189 You are quite welcome. Here's another thought about improving by playing with better players at rec play. When you get the chance to play with them, actually play with them. When the better player is limited to serving and receiving and then watching 3 other players compete around him or her because the other team is keeping it away, it becomes uninteresting. The better player has to decide to either accept that he isn't going to get to play much or has to start hogging the ball. If you actually play shots to the better player, you will discover what that player does to attack you, and you will get the feedback needed to improve your game. Otherwise, all you did is share court space with the better player and you didn't really play with them. You might even get a win over them which gives you a false impression of your game development. I can tell you from experience that when this happens, it makes better players reluctant to join a game with the same people again. So if you have gotten the chance to play with better players and you haven't seen improvement, ask yourself if you played against them or if you avoided them. That will give an answer as to why you haven't improved even if sharing a court with better players.
@@jeffboren6735 Gee Jeff, thanks again. Keep those comments coming!
Very true!!!@@jeffboren6735
Good point! You don't learn as much by icing the better opponent.
Love that. Thank you
thanks for your comments!!
@@geauxpickleball1189 I learn so much from your discussion.
Drilling and getting a coach helps. Higher level players are hard to find because they play in private groups, specifically because they dont want to play with weak players. Drill, get coached, play in a leage, sign up for a tournament...much better than trying to force your way into higher level groups.
Thanks you so much for your comments.
Another good episode. I would drill, but I'm already too good. I feel it would be unfair to my opponents.
Thank you so much for your comment.
Thanks for introducing us to the new Stacks venue. The Shreveport Krewe is headed to Stacks this weekend to play in the Louisiana Senior Games. Ken glad to hear you are back on the courts. As always keep up the good work with this podcast.
Jack, thank you so much for your comment. Stacks is awesome and you will enjoy playing there. Bud
Thank you for watching and for your feedback! Something to consider for sure!
I am 22. I would like to add some notes If the young is going to spike the ball, back up, anticipate where the ball will go, and then launch the ball high up. Not a normal lob, a sky ball. That way it throws off the timing for the next spike and it will give you time to get ready The ball will always come back. I've played against many seniors and beginners who believe they won the point but then it comes back. Stay vigilant until you see that ball bounce twice or is dead ball Go for volleys. Many seniors/beginners I've seen let the ball bounce when it's shoulder height and then the ball gets behind them. Try to keep your paddle over the kitchen and if the ball is in reach, take it. It cuts the young players reaction time
Thank you so much for your comments. you made some interesting observations and I hope everyone sees them.
Too distracting to watch 2 balls going at same time if goal is to watch ball placement and position of players. 2 players with one ball would better illustrate your point
You all turned this into the best Video I have seen on youtube. Love the way you all break down this interview. Great analysis and discussion. So glad I got to do this interview. Hope lots of people look at this and pay attention to your analysis.
Thank you so much for your comment. We really enjoyed having you join us.
Great and very important Drills. One thing though, these cones are a bit to far from the Kitchen Line. Players will be over extended in order to protect these cones, Keep cones about 12 inches and even closer for shorter players from the kitchen line. Aslo, advise the players to avoid moving backways when trying to protect the cones, I see to much movements thoughout these drills.
Thanks for your perspective! We do measure individually based on each person's reach. I will share your thoughts with the group! Thanks again!

Greetings from Richmond, Virginia. I really enjoy your videos and feel like each of you is a friend I've never met. Anyhow, it's hot here in Richmond also. 100 degrees one day last week and in the 90's each day going on three weeks in a row. There is a public park near me with 12 courts and 12 more currently under construction. My Meetup group has upped the start times to 7:30am and we're still finding it too hot at that hour due to the heavy humidity we have from being so close to the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean. We're lucky in Richmond to have two great indoor facilities. One has 12 courts and the other has 8. It's sure nice to have the option to play inside when the weather outdoors is this hot. The public park is owned by the local county (parish in your neck of the woods) and they installed AED's that are in a metal case with a keypad on the door. Once you enter the code to open the door, the local fire department and other first responders are immediately notified that the AED is being removed from the case and they are automatically dispatched to the location. Luckily there is a fire department station less than a mile away so someone with training will be on site almost immediately. In the meantime, the AED can be used by whoever took it out of the case on the person in need. As you all said, it has step by step instructions and is fairly easy to operate even for someone without any training. I really like the system they have set up with the automatic notification to first responders as soon as the code is entered to open the case door to retrieve the AED. Anyhow, thanks for the videos. You all do really nice work and I enjoy watching.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Sounds like your system is pretty sophisticated. We have to call 9-1-1 manually at our park (Pelican Park) and they are about 8 minutes from getting EMS to us. We do have an AED on the fence and have had a few CPR classes for some of the pickleball players that are regulars. We still think that we need more players trained on how to give CPR and use the AED. Thanks again for commenting and hope to see you on the courts someday! -- Ken

Buy some balls!!!😂😂😂
Pop at the net more than power. I like the ALW 12.7 for its power and low swing weight while still having great twist weight. The gearbox PPE is too powerful for me, and much too hard to control. But a poppy paddle with a low swingweight works very well for me.
Tim, thank you so much for your comments!
Control, at my age and physical ability I can hit a ball hard enough naturally. I like the extra control to help with resets of hard shots.

Can you elaborate on how the round robin format worked in the MLP type format?
Hello Rick. In this tournament, there were two groups, one of 5 teams and one of 6 teams. Each team played the other teams in their group. So a 6 teams group would play the other 5 teams. Then the two best teams from each group went into the playoffs. I hope this helps.
