We bought our Foutaine Pajot Saona 47' in December 2017. Since then we have been living aboard our catamaran, watching the kids grow up at sea and enjoying time together as a family and exploring new places.
We were pretty rookie sailors starting out, but after putting almost 20,000 miles on we're starting to figure this life out.
Our kids, Ben (13) and Charlie (11) are taking the sailing life all in stride. They are adaptable, fun to be around and sweeter than I could ever capture in the videos. Recently adding a Havanese puppy (Ruby) to the mix has been a fun adjustment!

After a really rough passage into Portugal the crew earned a day eating their way through Lisbon. Relaxed and refreshed they were ready to face the next adventure, dodging Orcas in Gibralter. Curious to know how you find the Med for cruising, as an American family? My wife really wants to spend a season or two there. I’m quite apprehensive about the crowded anchorages and high marina costs .
Hi there, we have really enjoyed our 2 seasons in the Med. Last summer, thorugh France, Corsica and Sardinia we found many quiet anchorages and sleepy villages. We wanted our kids to experience the history and the culture over there as they have spent enough time on beaches. This summer in the Ionian it was definitely a bit busier, but it's busy for a reason, it's beautiful, safe, there are lots of anchorages, great food as a reasonable price and beautiful water. Everything is a trade off... I would avoid major ports that host cruise ships, but I really wasn't put off by the crowds otherwise.... We don't spend alot of time in marinas sot that wasn't a huge issue for us. The heat was probably my biggest complaint, I would seriously consider installing A/C if you don't have it already on board. Happy to provide more specifics if you get serious about heading over there. Cheers.
