In this episode of The Journey Podcast, I had the pleasure of being joined by David McGrath who kindly came on to shed light on his journey, on the road to recovery from not only a financially expensive disease but an emotionally and psychologically draining one - drug addiction.
David talks about growing up with mental health issues and not knowing how to deal with them which led to him searching for an escape.
David’s escapology was drugs and a combination of peer pressure and no real understanding of how to cope with his mental health, leading him on a path towards his dark days.
A hot subject we discussed is about how Ireland criminalizes drug addiction and the negative affect this has on mental health which contrasts to other countries who have adopted a more reasonable, appropriate method to tackle drug addiction.
Like anyone on a journey, David has had many setbacks along the way. He gives a great insight on his experience of overcoming his adversities along the way. His admirable honesty on such stigmatised topics is truly amazing! He hopes to raise awareness for anyone that may be in that same place that he once was and if this helps one person who is struggling with addiction then that’s a job done.
