I like Gino but he does not understand the Biblical context. Paul defends paying preachers in chapter 9 while saying he chose not to take pay on his own. Read verses 9:8-11 and you will clearly see this. In 9:18 he is not saying that taking pay is a hindrance to the Gospel but rather that taking pay from the Corinthians would hinder the Gospel because they were carnal-minded. Paul defended paying preachers in multiple places in the New Testament. There are those who labor in the Gospel and so they should live off of the Gospel. Preachers should not take advantage of the people and preach for filthy gain, but if they are supplying spiritual gifts to the people then the people should provide their monetary needs to live. Read 1 Tim 5:8 as well as Gal 6:1-10. People sometimes think something is true by how a person says it. Biblical truths must be examined withing their context so they don't get fooled by men who eisegete a text right out of the context.
