A modern, fan made trailer for Ingmar Bergman's Fanny & Alexander. "Fanny and Alexander" is a Swedish film directed by Ingmar Bergman. It was released in 1982 and is considered one of Bergman's masterpieces. The film is a sprawling family drama that follows the lives of the Ekdahl family in Uppsala, Sweden, during the early 20th century. Part of an on going series of modern trailers for my all ...

Super! How did you develop and digitize the film afterward?
An insult to a great film. Hereditary style 🙄
@@vittoriostoraro I’m sure all those still living are very offended. It’s for fun, buddy. Take your meds and go for a walk.
Nice! Good quick shot of the Super 8 motel
Congratulations, cool work.
I’ve seen the 180 min version and really enjoyed - it worth watching the longer one?
yes, yes, YES!
Really beautiful work! I just bought a Canon 1014 AZ and did a test shot with a fresh roll of 50D but later found out that the film was not proceeding the whole time and ended up not being exposed at all (the motor works fine tho). The sprocket turned out to be broken too. I know some ppl also have encountered this in the past so just wanted to ask if this a common issue for all Canon super 8 cams. Also, if possible, there's any way this could be avoided/fixed? Really appreciate it!
Thank you! As long as the motor in the camera is working fine, it was most likely a bad cartridge. I’ve experienced a jammed roll or two that wouldn’t advance and the sprocket holes ripped as a result. Definitely not common though.
Great footage’s and nice song.🎥🎞️🎬✌️😎🚀🚀🥁🥁
Any tips on manual exposure?
Surreal because this is the exact same set up as my parent's house
i literally cried to this it's too beautiful for some reason
It means a lot to hear that, so thank you!
OMG glad that this appeared in my feed! The script is as mesmerizing as the music you chose and the montage. Thank you. In my list of movies to watch.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I cant believe i have yet to see this movie yet but i really want to now. Excellent job.
I appreciate it!
absolutely phenomenal edit, saw this posted yesterday and it inspired me to start the theatrical version! I've since finished it and was blown away, think I'll watch the TV version soon!
Thank you!
What kind of light meter did you use?
Funny enough, an iPhone app. I don’t recall which one.
@@jordanshankman That’s so rad! Thanks so much for the fast reply! Found an 814 in perfect condition at a thrift recently. My other super 8 only shoots auto so I’m a bit daunted by the idea of shooting manually on film for the first time especially with the price of development. Anyhow, I just bought a metering app the other day in the hopes that it would mitigate me having to some $$ on a nice light meter. Haven’t used it yet but that’s awesome to hear/see you got such good results with one!
@@lwltrs Sure! Film negative has a ton of latitude, so it’s pretty forgiving. I’d just recommend a log scan to get the most out of it.
Was this all shot manually with the 814? I've got exactly the same model (haven't used it in years) and noticed I can control the aperture with the Close/Open dial. Is that what you mostly used? Or the auto mode? And is the shutter angle 150 or 180 degrees? Sorry for all the questions!@@jordanshankman
@@DanielFewchuk Yeah all manual exposure. The shutter angle is 155 degrees, but I go off shutter speed, which is roughly 1/40th sec at 18fps and 1/60th at 24. Film has a lot of latitude and is easy to expose properly. Get a log scan and you’ll have even more room to fine tune in post.
What kind of light meter did you use? Awesome vid!!!
Sorry for the duplicate comment! Just realized they were both vids of yours hahaha! Just put two and two together. Great work again man!
Fantastic job! Thanks for sharing this great video!
Wow this just looks amazing! This really makes me want to try to shoot super8 myself :)
Love the landscapes and colors! What are the differences between the 514 xl-s and the 1014 xl-s? (I’m considering buying the 1014, but can’t find any direct comparison videos to know if it’s worth the price jump).
Thanks so much! The 1014 just has a longer fixed lens and has a greater zoom range, but otherwise they’re the same.
Great video. Some of the grain doesn't look authentic to me, personally. But I really appreciate a short and to-the-point video showcasing what dehancer can do. Cheers!
Great review Jordan! Congratulations
Honestly one of the best trailers I've seen, fan-made or not.
Thanks man!
wow man, your so fluent with your shots and story telling. You really know how to get the most out of your 1014 xls and lighting. What's your background? Im assuming this was shot at 18fps and steadied in post edit and did you manually set your exposure or rely on the auto?
Thanks man! This was mostly shot at 18fps on a tripod, but otherwise handheld. I relied entirely on the auto exposure.
Beautiful work, so well done using the 6-7 second rule of shots. You covered all the ground expertly for the timeframe and footage you were working with.
fantastic filmwork. Great family content to keep forever.
such a beautiful video!
Hey, amazing video ! was wondering where you sent your film to get developed and scanned?
Thanks! Pro8mm in Burbank
This was a 2k full format overscan
@@jordanshankman thanks so much
Fantastic work. Great song too
One of the most beautifully shot super 8 shots here on youtube. No stuttery 18fps, no jerky shakey handcamera but actually wonderfully framed scenes with a photographic aesthetic. Really beautiful. And it's a good idea to have sharpened the image a little bit and trying to fight the terrible youtube compression a bit. At many times you could actually spot the filmgrain. I almost thought you had shot most of it at 36fps to slow down everyones movements a little bit for a really comforting effect. But i don't think this camera has anything faster than 24fps. I guess the smoother movements are a result of the shutterblade that doesn't seem to be 180° bit more open... like 150° or so. Like those Shutter blades on XL Super 8 cameras.
Really appreciate the feedback. I do tend to like the whole rough and tumble aesthetic of super 8, but this was just a product of breaking the mold a bit. I’m glad you found it affecting! As for the frame rate, this was all shot at 24, then slowed down slightly in post.
Awesome mate, I was considering buying the same camera but after watching this I definitely will thank you 😌
Thanks man! Glad I could be of service.
Nice work bro! Where did you develop the film ?
Thanks! It was developed and scanned by Pro8mm.
yes.
yes.
Just watched this movie tonight. What an excellent trailer!
This is really beautiful. I have to say, one of the things I like most about this is that there isn't a single shot of someone on their phone. It really adds to it's timeless, honest quality. I just shot my first cartridges of 50D on the same camera. Hoping they come out as nicely as yours.
Thanks Evan. 50d is awesome. I’d just say to scan it at at least 2k to get the most out of it. Hope it turns out well.
Canon 1014XL best !
This trailer's garbage, it reduces a masterpiece to a cheap, simple ,by-the-numbers Hollywood psychological horror movie
Thank you.
@@jordanshankman watch this, it's in a shitty video quality but it suits this movie much, much better, you could learn from it. ua-cam.com/video/Ggd2qkine0U/v-deo.html&ab_channel=JardinsdeSofia-filmesfraseselivros
awesome! I was just looking for a c70 + sigma art lens + rs2 combo. how was the weight?! Awesome shot!
Thanks David! It’s a very practical set up. I’ve shot with it for up to 12 hours no problem.
great views! did you use color correction after shooting? i see you have several shots used white balance adjustment maybe?
I shot all of this in clog2 so yeah I did do a bit of color correcting.
My god great 👍 job on matching the visuals with the music. So Simple yet the elegance it brings harbors some emotional depth to the screen. Where did you get this amazing music from?
Thanks for the kind words! The song is Love Remembered by Wojciech Kilar.
Amazing collection of images!! I can't believe you got so much detail in the highlights, especially the fire scene. Which art lenses?
Thanks! The dynamic range they get out of the sensor is crazy. I used the 35 1.4 and 24-70 2.8. I also used a Pentax 50 1.2 and a Hasselblad 110 f2.
Beautiful shots! 👏
Thanks so much!

Hi! Every menu can be made vegetarian. Just let us know in the notes section on the checkout page if and when you purchase tickets.
A lot of people have compared this one to Interiors by Woody Allen. I don't think there's any comparison. This one is far better. I love the way Bergman uses light and pace. Interiors cuts too abruptly and often there's only one person at a time on the screen which makes the dialogue seem stilted. This one flows.
I had heard Woody Allen had cited his love for this movie and Interiors was influenced by it. Both are great.
@@rgwebb5165 You can really see this in Interiors. I agree.
Amazing video! If you don’t mind me asking, what frame size are you using?
Thanks! If I understand you correctly, the lab referred to this as a full format overscan. The negative is scanned edge to edge.
When you know that the whole soundtrack of the trailer is copied from another films trailer 🤣🤣.. Hereditary trailers whole soundtrack is just copied and pasted over here in this trailer 😂😂
this is such a lovely video! i was wondering if you used a light meter to set the aperture as it was manual? and if so, what light meter was it? thanks!! :)
Thanks Yilin! Yes, I manually exposed and used a Sekonic L-308XU. Vision 3 has great dynamic range though and allows for a lot of color and exposure correction in post, especially if a LOG scan is performed.
@@jordanshankman thanks for the information! just shot on my first roll on the same camera so hoping it comes out well :)
Just ordered one of these after watching this video and cant wait to try it out
That’s awesome to hear. It’s never let me down.
nice difference from PNW, both are pretty but this is distinctly east
Nice footage. But how did you get the film on an airplane without being x-ray exposed? :3
You just ask security for a hand check.
beautiful 😍😍
