Flood Damage Assessment Underway: Authorities Address Crop Loss and Poor Drainage Issues
On 4th October, a flood caused widespread damage to crops, particularly in the paddy fields. In response, the District Agriculture Department has launched a survey to assess the extent of the damage. Farmers are required to submit applications along with details of the location and photographs of the affected areas to the District Agriculture Office. Following this, Agricultural Field Assistants (AFA) are being dispatched to verify the authenticity and accuracy of the claims on-site.
Meanwhile, the Disaster Management Department has attributed the flooding in the town area to an inadequate drainage system. Additionally, the department found that several structures had been built along stream areas, obstructing the natural flow of water, which intensified the flooding. To address this, the department has issued a notice urging colony-wise societies to collaborate with encroachers and work toward restructuring the affected areas. This move is expected to mitigate future flood risks by improving drainage and clearing blocked waterways.
