Warm Lake Ontario water in the fall combined with a cold front sometimes produce water spouts over the lake. This one was captured from one of our Club live stream cameras.

Rescue Of Disabled Powerboat

Power boat with engine trouble drifted into our east dock and was assisted in securing his boat in our launch ramp. Club member Jeff Heidman rendered assistance to the boater and drove him to get his truck/trailer. Boater returned with his trailer and used our launch ramp to retrieve his disabled boat.

Boats and docks sent in motion by large, long-period wave caused by a cabin cruiser motoring south on the bay on the far side of the bay. The boat was not going fast and is not visible in this short clip.
Microburst rain event at Newport Yacht Club

Short heavy rain event including a microburst wind event that damaged several trees nearby. A house at the top of the hill on Seneca Road was severely damaged when a tree was blown down into it. Fortunately, our club escaped undamaged except for some limbs and tree debris that needed to be cleaned up afterwards. Peak rainfall rate: 24.00 in/hr Peak wind gust: 42 knots (48.3 mph)

The summer of 2022 will be remembered as the season that the club front lawn was torn up due to reconstruction of our seawall. An important step in project completion is restoration of our front lawn. Ambulance Crashes into the bay

An ambulance was stolen from a maintenance facility in Utica, NY and driven approximately 140 miles west to the Newport Yacht Club on Irondequoit Bay, NY. NY State Police followed the vehicle in a low-speed chase to reduce risk to the public. The large waves that rock the East dock can be seen hitting at 12:52:09pm. The waves appear to originate from 2 power boats traveling North to South on the far side of the bay that are in the video at about 12:49:45pm. The waves have some effect on the two sunfish sailing toward them at about 12:51:15pm. They get larger in amplitude and shorter in wavelength as they reach the shallow waters of the shore and cove.
The wave hits the docks at 12:52pm
Waves starts at 12:52:09pm and doesn't seem all that impressive until the boats start rocking.Things are settled down a minute later. Take a look at the Bay View video to see where the waves come from.
