Eugene Oregon's premium Kayak, Canoe, Rafting, and Paddling supply store - Oregon Paddle Sports.
Our crew has been hard at work at creating a different way to interact with our customers. There are so many questions we get daily such as:
How do I install a patch on my inflatable?
How does this boat perform on the water?
Why on earth would I spend that much on a dry suit?
Why tell you when we can show you?
Introducing the Oregon Paddle Sports UA-cam Channel
We will have more how-to videos, more product reviews, more modification videos and more of the paddling content you'll find useful in the future. Hopefully you find them mostly informative and a little bit fun.

Hey guys! Thank for this vid. I am considering a 145t as a Swiss army knife boat for me to get out with a kid, and/or gear in coastal BC. What are your thoughts on handing in inshore coastal waters? Is there a giant spray skirt for the 145t? And how is the knee brace situation (for handling/control when solo)? Thanks!
Hi Nick, Thanks for for your comment! Although it is a rather heavy and slow moving kayak it should handle just fine it is a very stable and forgiving. There is padding for you knees but it is a very open cockpit. If you move the front seat as far back it will go then it allows to seat almost dead center in the kayak for solo paddling. We have a Seals tandem Spray skirt that fits the 145T in stock, here is a link to our website: www.oregonpaddlesports.com/seals-tandem-sprayskirt-t200.html
Thanks for doing that so I don't have to!
I just bought iTrek 11 and apparently the paddle and glued on paddle clips are no longer with new boats.
Is this the Hydrus 2.5 or the Hydrus 3.0?
That is the Hydrus 3.0.
Good tip. Thank you.
I want to like it. Hard to say without all the frame bars adjusted but the aft seat mount is inside the boat instead of out on the tube. Looks like you lose a foot of space & inside becomes even more cramped. The Slipstream looks to be a gray Star raft with an NSR frame. I think the better deal is the Outcast 13 - Aire Tributary raft with an NSR frame. Just my $0.02
Hi Chip, thanks for the comment. We feel the slipstream as exceeded all our expectations at the shop. It compares to the outcast very well, the big difference is the 6" drop stitch floor and foam topper for durability and stability when standing in the raft. The frame offers endless configurations and we think the aft seat and thigh brace leaves plenty of room for a third angler in the back.
Great video, thanks for posting! Thinking about getting one of these.
We have one in stock. No sales tax. 😈 www.oregonpaddlesports.com/hobie-itrek-11-yellow-10-ft-8-in.html
Mine didn't come with a paddle. When you unboxed yours you didn't take out a paddle. It mysteriously appeared and you said it comes with it but it wasn't in your box or mine.
Sorry for the continuity error, but this indeed comes with a 4 piece breakdown paddle. If you look through everything again and still don’t see it you should contact your dealer.
@@chance4000 Thanks! After doing that I found that the 2024's no longer come with the paddle or the paddle holder! Luckily I have a 4 piece I can use with a paddle leash.
What kind of rack do you have on your prius?
That is a Yakima Baseline system. We could order it for you and ship it if you were interested.
I'm 5'2", can the seat be adjusted to the mirage?
For $249 you cant beat this packraft!
I don’t see the blade rests on your website
You’re right, I don’t see them either. The shop opens at 10am pst tomorrow if you want to give us a call. We can get them shipped out asap.

Thanks, useful done, catch you later~=))
What's the vest you wearing on top of the suit?
That is the Kokatat Hustle PFD. I am a huge fan. www.oregonpaddlesports.com/hustle-life-vest.html
I love that thang
What keeps me from buying this is the colors no more choices and dont like those colors 😢
This exactly the video I was looking for. I have a 10’ 2 man plastic pontoon boat and just looking for something in case I lose my balance and fall into cold water and need to get back into my boat. The lakes I fish are small and I only go out when conditions are mostly calmish.
Sounds perfect for you! Happy to order you one with no sales tax.
@@oregonpaddlesports1595 apparently I need the proper clearance from my better half first 🤷🏻♂️😬
@@pdfahie Same for us with large purchases :P Let us know.
Good video !
Thanks! Safety First.
Two questions: 1. How is that rocket box sling rigged in the back behind the dry box? The loops on one end look like it might come out to a D ring and the perimeter line, but what about the loops on the inside facing the water jug? Come to think of it, how’s that water jug secured? Another sling? 2. How does the rocket box and water jug interact with the Pacific River Bag? Looks like the bag is designed to take up the entire stern, but I can’t tell how you have it rigged here since there’s other stuff in the way.
The rocketbox sling is looped on the long side through the top only, connected to the cross bar you can see. This probably isn't optima, the other rocket box is looped through both of the short sides, how it was designed. The water jug is inside another rocket box sling but it clearly needs a way to hold it in, probably another strap around it, good catch though. The Pacific River Bag is designed to take up the entire stern area, we were just trying to get creative with a smaller raft. The PRB has several straps to connect into the outer d rings, the floor and frame. Hopefully that answers all your questions.
I’m considering pulling the trigger but my only worry is rocks tearing it
Give the shop a call, we just got some in and we are happy to answer anymore questions you have about the boat. As far as rocks go, it is something to keep in mind but ours has had no problem with being used numerous times in our rental and demo fleet. I wouldn't recommend dragging it on rocks but overall it has proved durable.
I know a few people that swam there as teens back in the 90's and got pretty bad skin rashes. I go out once in awhile and kayak around. There are usually some squatters. If you head up the mountain from there you can get to some pretty high out looks. 3400 ft.
I love my Hobie Mirage iTrek 9 9'5" but I struggle to inflate it. I can hand pump the end of it. I have tried several electric pumps. the Hobie attachment doesn't fit all the way into the pumps. Any advice on what others are using?
The electric pump that it comes with is not meant to inflate it to full operating pressure. Those pumps require that you top it off with the hand pump. On some boats, opening or closing the valve while inflating will lead to better results. If you wanted to inflate the boat fully without using a hand pump I would consider something like the shark pump www.oregonpaddlesports.com/outdoor-master-shark-ii-high-pressure-electric-pum.html you basically just plut it into the valve and set the PSI you would like it to reach. Be sure to have the valve close during inflation. This will ensure air doesn't come out when you unplug the pump.
@@oregonpaddlesports1595 Thank you for your recommendation!
Draining this pond would be a horrible idea. Every time I go there there's always folks on it. Paddling and... Fishing. Nice Bass, Bluegill and Trout pond. I don't see any benefit draining. What a loss of a wonderful, peaceful place if their plans go through.
Thank you, good choice for fisherman.
I have one for Kayak fishing. Its performance is awesome, but the craftmanship is really disappointing for a 2600 raft.
Any details?
@@callaway86 There were fine scratches all over the body and I inspected several of them
If only it was 1000 denier instead of 500.
500 seems to be the standard for paddle boards in the industry. This could get used a little harder than many paddle boards however. You could always glue vinyl rub strips on the bottom.
according. to Hobie uk it is 1000 denier fabric. if had an i14t for 2 years now and its tough. im getting the 11 soon.
@@raymondscott906 Any idea if dogs could come on it? Or would it risk a tear because of their nails?
@@colleenzitman5943 mine has been in blackberry bushes at the side of the river. there are some sharp thorns on those. I saw one video of a guy that used a thin exercise mat on top to protect his from fish hooks and spines
Would love to see a comparison with the Hobie Lynx
I would be curious too. Most of the hardware is the same, drive, seat, rudder system. But the hulls definitely have a different shape.
I know that place! I spend a lot of time in that area. I've never taken my kayaks out there though. I once saw a river otter out there. Lots of salamanders and waterfowl as well. I really hope they don't remove the dam.
It's truly a gem close to Eugene. I read on the USGS website that the average lifespan of an earthen dam is 50 years and this one is over 70 years old. If the dam were to fail there would be problems downstream in the little town of Horton. Fingers crossed they decide to fix it up instead of remove it.
Beautiful spot. I want a ITrek 11 for a camera boat. They seem stable and easy to handle.
Definitely a perfect camera boat. Since you can move the steering lever around it give you lots of options of steering while shooting. We are stoked to have one in our demo fleet.
Secondary stability how is it on the kestrel 120
Compared to kayaks with hard chines this has less secondary stability. But this pays off with better performance when edging. With a tiny bit of practice the Kestrel can be a great starter boat for a paddler with a little sportier intentions.
how much is the 140 blue one?
Current price is $1199 though we have some used models available now.
MEK is not good to breathe and or allow to be absorbed by your skin. Where your PP. Thanks for the tutorial all the same!!
You will be fine as long as you are dealing really cold water and big wave.
Great How-to video!
HAHAHA!!! Cowabunga!
What’s your build and what size do you have on? I’m thinking about ordering one.
I'm about 230 pounds, 5'10" and I'm wearing an XL.
I appreciate your review. I’ve been researching dry and semi dry suits for awhile. Your review helped me out a lot.
Do those kestrel have bulk heads in front and rear
They just have a rear bulkhead. You could throw a float in the front for safety but gear is another issue.
Excellent video. Thanks for taking the time to put it together. Cheers, W
What is the model of the recretec frame here? Looks perfect for that 14’ RMR.
That is a Deluxe Aluminum Breakdown Cargo Frame from Recretec. We had it custom made for this boat actually with the custom dry boxes, adjustable footbar and walkway diamond plating. SUPER nice frame if you're looking to invest in a great Oregon company.
Thanks for the step-by-step walkthrough, it was just what I needed!
I bought the Kokatat Supernova recently. I tried several different dry suits and also dry trousers/jacket combos. The Supernova was by far the most comfortable. The neoprene collar with a cinch tighten cord allows you to slacken it off or tighten it up as required. The neoprene is very soft too compared to the other suits and jackets I tried. Unless you are going to be in the water a lot, the latex neck gaskets of full dry suits are too uncomfortable IMO. I think water ingress on the wrists is much more of an issue anyhow, your head and neck will be above the water line almost entirely if you fall in (hopefully, otherwise you will be drowning!). Only downside is the colors suck (like most Kokatat gear). I got the orange one but the blue is just as bad (no offense!). I put comfort and practicality above how it looks though, I’d highly recommend the Supernova.
Great vid! For reference, what size suit is that? I've got a barrel chest, but not super tall, so trying to guess best size. How do the socks work? Looks like you have the bottom cinched up? Thought you were without the socks, but maybe sock are in your shoes? Looking for way to compensate for legs being too long for me :)
Hi Jeremy, I'm about 250 5'10". This Drysuit has feet in it so those are just stuffed into my Astral shoes. If I was going to be in the water for a while I would have some nice socks underneath. Kokatat offers "King" sizing which makes it a little wider and not quite as tall. I just kind of roll up the extra leg length and it works ok for me. We have a XXL in stock now we could ship.
Great vid
That's been my experience. A get a little ingress but nothing approaching a significant risk. I'll trade some dampness for avoiding getting choked by a latex gasket all day.
Great video guys.
Great to see you guys on UA-cam!
