I loved my zada hedron grinder budget deck for mono red goblin deck personally but u can’t go wrong with some solid gobbos either way

for future reader, no commander tax on embalm nor eternalize. its an activate ability that exile the creature to create a token. its not casting the creature from command zone. so no tax over it

Helga can only cast creatures with X mana cost, not all spells. Found this out the hard way with the point Dexter in my pod lol

Similar to the new Eladamri I could see a strong argument for playing a Selesnya commander like Rhys, Selvala, or Tolsimir just for access to the white protection spells to hedge against your weakness to wrath.

As strong as Marwyn is, it's usually just an inf combo instakill and doesn't actually feel like playing elves at all. Not a fun deck for either side of the table IMO. I'm gonna have to go with Nath of the Gilt Leaf for my elf pick, very classic deck with a unique and powerful but not too broken mechanic and lots of synergy potential. The MH3 Eladamri seems pretty sweet too for a more standard elfball deck, since he gives you creatures off the top of your deck which really helps offset the main weakness of most elf decks; overcommitting and getting wrathed into the shadow realm.

Helga is way to good to waste on hydras. There are so so so so so many good creatures in bant with x in the casting cost, plus she goes Infinite w Misthollow Griffin and food chain as well as venser Shaper Savant and intruder alarm.

We like golgari colors for the removals

She really feels like an alternate Animar with less discount potential and protection but built in draw and life gain. The life gain seems small but helps counteract fetches, pain lands, and talismans so you aren't doing your opponents job for them while building your board state. Animar's weakness is that he can gas out very easily and be stuck top decking which slows his game plan down if someone clears the board. Helga may not drop as many things at once but replacing every creature you drop with another card means you have a functional hand more often than not. Played right she is every bit as good, and depending on the style of your play group she might be better. Some of the Tyranid cards could slot in depending on your style, that built in Ravenous draw is great if you feel playing Helga is too risky at any given point but want to keep your hand filled up.

I was looking at building Helga, and on EDHRec I didn't see any inclusion for Spark Double or Sakashima of a Thousand Faces; both 3U creatures that can copy helga and will hit her trigger/can be summoned by her tap ability, with spark double entering with a +1/+1 on it. I thought they would be easy includes as it supercharges her abilities and provides backup against single removal -- is there something I'm missing on why no one's running either of these?

Do you think a Sunscape Familiar lowering all green and blue spells by 1 for 1W would fit well into this even at higher budget?

It's interesting that you recommend and alt commander. That's something you don't usually see and can make you almost have 2 decks for the price of one

I built Helga mostly with a +1/+1 strategy, but included proper hydras as that was my first thought when building this deck.

I'm building a Helga deck now, Total sucker for things that untap her and giving creature spells flash + wilderness reclamation heh

I've been brewing a hydra deck lately with Zaxara but it didn't seem to fit my playstyle while testing. Helga looks like a nice different perspective on hydras so I'll definitely try her out! thanks for all the recommended cards as well!

Although that does mean when you go to cast a spell you can double up the damage. You can also play a sorcery on your main phase, and an instant during combat even if it is a nothing spell to pull just a bit more damage that can't be blocked. And hopefully you gave it lifelink so your all good!

I’m the guy you’re talking too in this video. New to commander, played 3 matches. All honestly big green ramp decks. Didn’t enjoy the experience. But with my Helga theory craft, me and my friend are building a Flash creature deck, to give me more say on peoples turns to counter or negate damage. Etc

I like running 20 land’s because most of my decks are fast and cheap bug if a deck has alot of expensive cards run 24 or more lands but if your playing a supper fast format you can go down to 18 or 16 lands

I don't have a first card choice, honestly just want it to be fun so I try to find silly or less used commander's and try and make that work lol

First thing I think about is how many dragons can I functionally play then mana reduction

10ish ramp pieces, 15ish interaction (10 single target, 5 multi target/boardwipe), lands focusing on mdfcs, card advantage then round out with 20ish cards that interact well with the commander

Mana rocks an interaction first, then card draw. Always run 38 lands, depending. An creatures last

I like to browse mythic/rares and find a card that looks unique and build around that!

I have thought about taking my elf deck and making it mono-colored instead of golgari. There are definitely some advantages but I'm still happy with mine since it can in theory go infinite by turn 5

I also built a Sythis deck a few years ago, but this summer I decided to switch things up and recruited Narci, Fable Singer as my new commander. Sythis was such a powerhouse, that my roommate’s decks struggled against her too much. : ) My favourite card in my enchantress deck is Mother of Runes. ”:D I love my foil Eliette Mitchell’s Secret Lair illustration (for Mother’s Day 2021). It isn’t an enchantment, but it definitely has pillowfort energy. I also like Sphere of safety, Righteous Aura, and Darksteel Mutation. Flyer wincon is familiar, too, and I run Archon of Sun’s Grace and Sigil of the Empty Throne. Hallowed Haunting is on my wishlist. : D

While i don't always like them, I gave my husband an Isamaru Voltron deck to teach them the game. It had a lot of key words on it to teach what each meant, and it was a pretty easy strategy.

I bought the necron dynasties pre con and built artifacts around train the infinite is he a good beginner friendly deck or should I switch him out to something a little better I’m literally like one week new to magic any suggestions help

And that's why WotC gets away with printing a 5/5 for 5 with such seemingly powerful abilities. If can become a huge downfall late game. Edit: it just hit me, toxic would be horrendous with this commander.

Making this deck out of spite. I'm usually a weaker deck at the table, and still get hit over and over, so I'm ready to have people not have fun too.

This deck absolutely needs Humility. The Humility will pump your living weapons while turning off any deck that wants to use creatures.

I built this commander deck back when it first came out! Batterskull was the mvp of the deck and was the most expensive card I owned at the time (college budget $10 was a months worth of ramen). It’s a great deck and the route you’ve taken to build it in the video makes me want to give it another try!

Imma preface this by saying im not trying to be negative, im trying to add some insight differing from your views. This deck’s concept is fundamentally not great. Casting two spells a turn and drawing two cards a turn aren’t synonymous. That being said you definitely can bridge the gap with cards that allow you to double spell and save you mana. I’ll give my favorite: “Reinterpret”. 4 mana counter spell (seems bad at first) but if you counter something predictable, let’s say an opponent’s 4 mana commander, you can then also advance the board state bc it allows you to cast from your hand any spell with EQUAL or lesser mana value. It also CASTS the spell for free. So this on it’s own triggers your commander and draws a card. So it’s technically can give a spell in your hand flash, is versatile interaction AND cantrips (while your commander is out) so you don’t go down on card advantage unlike a regular counter spell. Next cantrips are bad because they don’t actually draw cards. Even in an ideal scenario they don’t provide much value. Example: cast 2 can trips w/cmmdr out> gets 2 cards BACK plus 1. Net 1 card for 2 mana and 2 SPELLS. Why did i emphasize spells? Because the cards you drew aren’t necessarily spells. You have a 35ish% chance of drawing a land aka a dud. And a higher chance of drawing NOT another cantrip. And you wasted 2 mana to draw a card essentially. For 3 mana you can get more bang for your buck. Let’s do this again. “Discover the impossible” (my favorite “cantrip”) 3 mana instant, look 5 cards deep, grab any of these to your hand. If it’s an instant with mana value 2 or less you may cast it for free. 3 mana, grab a card, trigger commander, (two separate magecraft triggers) and a free spell potentially, net an extra card from your commander. Not to mention the cost can actually be reduced thanks to the sapphire medallion you added unlike cantrips. And you get card SELECTION. So you get net 1 card (cost a card, grabbed a card and cmmdr gave you 1). Then there’s amazing cards you missed on. Instead Ledger Shredder and Faerie mastermind which are generic spells that only put you ahead if your opponents are getting ahead (you don’t want that), you can play a “Harmonic Prodigy” doubles triggers for ALL your Wizards and Shamans. That includes your commander. Whole team panharmonicon for 2 mana. Lastly big spells like Nehuzal, Storm of Saurumon, Immolating Gyre, and Sea Gate Restoration look good on paper, but they cost too much mana and that leaves your mana down and unable to counter a critical spell. Good blue players (in my opinion) should never tap out unless there’s no other option. Murmurring mystic, improbable alliance, and talrand all cost too much mana or can’t synergize with other wizard cards. 4 mana, to make 1/1 flyers isn’t great. Lighting bolt is great in 60 cards but gets outscaled easily in commander. “Resculpt” and the new “Zoyowa’s justice” are amazing in any deck as they get rid of anything guaranteed. If you’re scared of the drawback then it’s not worth removing. Btw best replacement for Storm of Sauronmennnenennn is Swarm Intelligence or Thousand Year storm but those are also trap cards as they leave you open for a whole turn cycle before you can capitalize on them.
