    Great review! I just bought a 2014 two weeks ago and I'm lovin' it. Came off of a '00 Bandit 1200s that I had for 18 years, but at 63 years old with arthritis and two knee replacement surgeries (same knee) I just couldn't handle the riding position any more. The R3 Roaster (Pun intended - that freaking pipe cooks my right leg!) with highway pegs is perfect. I do much of the maintenance on my bikes myself, so tire changes won't be costing me more than the price of the tires + mounting. I plan on installing Progressive 444's on the rear, new fork springs and the RAMAIR initake for starters. Looking forward to a long, meaningful relationship with it!

    this is of course by far the best BIKE in the world !! it has everything a bike needs : power, beauty, torque, sound, quality ... etc etc ! I know what it this to have one, I did have one from 2012 till 2015 but being 70 and my wife not being ok with me riding it any longer ( had a accident with a stupid wife in a car not stopping at a STOP sign !! ) so I did sell it .... This is a bike man !! this is awesome !! thanks for your video, always so good to see testimonies and joy on the riders faces when viewing !!! One more ? here is mine yeah yeah : ua-cam.com/video/vbx7CPxgjNk/v-deo.html I had 8-10 liters per 100 km. but that is just the good price for joy and happyness !!!

    I have a 2015 Rocket III Touring and I absolutely love the beast. It really is funny when it's parked next to an HD. The HD, which looked big before, suddenly seems to shrink into a mini-bike. And the power! Holy crap! I never get tired of the effortless power. The Touring actually weighs quite a bit more than the Roadster. In fact, it ways more than the published specs say because they added some things after the original Touring came out - such as running lights, crash bars, etc. The actual wet weight of the Touring is 906 pounds. But my panniers are loaded up with tools, etc., and when I take a trip with luggage and my wife on the back, we're talking 1,400 or 1,500 pounds rolling along. And it rolls along absolutely effortlessly. As for maintenance, changing the oil does require three plugs to be removed but that's no problem. One for the front of the sump, one for the rear of the sump, and one for the oil tank but their all under the bike near each other. I change my own tires which is a pain but it really isn't that hard to get the wheels off at all. Maybe the Roadster is different in that respect with it's larger rear tire. Of course, breaking the bead and actually changing the tires isn't exactly fun - especially since I don't have a tire changing setup. I do jack it up on a motorcycle floor jack that I got from Harbor Freight that works fine and I strap it on both sides with ratchet straps to machinery in my shop. It's solid on that setup that you can't budge the bike no matter how hard you try. Of course, I balance the tires. Great bike! I've travled across the country on it and never seen another one. People don't even know what it is.

    • @gurrenridin
      @gurrenridin 5 років тому

      The rear end of the bike is where the big differences are between the Touring and Roadster. The Roadster rear is a 240/50R16 that only a few companies make, and it makes the entire rear swing arm wider. Apparently the back end is filled with totally different part numbers from the Touring. Couple that with the fact that it doesn't use the detuned setup from the Touring and you've got a bike that not only is tougher to change tires on but needs all its maintenance more frequently. It's definitely a different beast. Glad you liked the vid!

    Seems a bit pricey for tires but if youre getting it done at a dealer its probably not out of the question. I just put 2 new tires on mine, $575 for the tires and $80 to change them. I took the wheels off myself so that saved a few bucks. It is a bitch getting the rear tire off and on I will say that. Also i get between 5000-7000 miles out of a rear but i do beat on the bike pretty hard so that certainly is something to consider.

  • @786philb
    @786philb 5 років тому

    You know it handles pretty well. Ok it's not meant to be a sports bike. That being said it handles pretty good. My worry is that you can never give it full power, Or you just cant slow down enough for the corners and then go to fast into them and your screwed once your past touching down onto tarmac. If sticky out bits and hot exhausts dont kill you. The weight of it will. Your an experianced rider, I wouldnt advise any novices to take the rocket on the track. Takes restraint from using its power for sure.

    • @gurrenridin
      @gurrenridin 5 років тому

      I've realized that my only option to get faster laptimes on CotA is to learn to take the turns like it's a flat track bike. There's more than enough power to break the rear out at will, lots of run off for going wide since it's a Formula 1 track, and not enough lean angle available since right after the pegs you apparently scrape engine block. I'll be spending as much time as I can in dirt to get used to tail sliding a bike then work on applying those lessons to a Rocket on the street. We'll see if I can do it ultimately.

    • @georgeR3Roadster
      @georgeR3Roadster 5 років тому

      because it is such a heavy fantastic bike it has a very great INERTIA so yes it cann't ride like a sports bike that can lean in the corners as hell ... just physics !! then of course it is a very very stable bike on the road, kind of a oil tanker bike !! ;-)

      Oh yeah man it's a handful. Having had it and my Ducati both out on CotA the same day I can tell you it's a monster task to wrestle it through turns vs. a sportbike. Vid of the Rocket on the track is also up on my channel if you're curious what that's like. I had a lot of laughs doing it but lawdy I was tired afterwards.

  • @zimtuff
    @zimtuff 5 років тому

    High long term costs, really? I find it relatively cheap for what you get, sure tyres and oil are more. But the servicing is a 16000klm interval and the tyres will go close to that. I haven't used too many parts in 9 years, just a water pump, fork seals, valve cover gasket , a throttle grip, a fuse and a broken headlight from a rock thrown up by another bike. Thats all in 90000klms

    • @gurrenridin
      @gurrenridin 5 років тому

      Perhaps if I never opened the throttle more than a quarter of the way and did mostly high gear gentle miles I'd get the same results, but I bought the Rocket because I wanted a cruiser that wouldn't bore me to tears. I drive it about the same way I drive a sport bike: the throttle is open and the rear tire occasionally decides it's gonna take the scenic route before getting in behind me. No seriously, the guys I ride with have seen me keep up with sport bike packs through hard, fast sweepers as I grind off yet another set of peg feelers. (I've been through 4 pair in two years) Also if you check my most recent video and channel art it's been out on a professional MotoGP track for track day. That was the end of the most recent pair. TL;DR: I bought it to drive it hard, and I drive it hard no different than my other bikes. On that standard it is in fact monstrously expensive. Tires that are more expensive by 50% than even performance sport bike tires that I use for track days since the size is incredibly rare and only 3 manufacturers make them. On top of that I go through a rear every 2-3k miles; 160 lb/ft of torque shreds rubber when you use it. That's less than half the mileage I get out of a rear driving my Ducati. The gas mileage is about half what I get with my Ducati, about 1/3 what I get with the Duke 390 I've been playing with. Oil changes it requires 1.5-2x the oil most any other bike does, and I run it for a little less mileage since the Texas heat is rough on the engine. I burned a clutch pack at about 28k miles. I've never burned a clutch pack out on a bike that fast. Then I had to get the brakes bled and... literally could not get it done anywhere other than at an actual Triumph dealer. In fact it's the only Triumph I've dealt with that everything except an oil change basically has to go to the dealer, so that pushes labor and parts pricing up. In fact at an actual Triumph dealership it requires more specialized tech training and tooling than any other Triumph, and the techs _hate_ it so I've had more trouble with them fucking the job up than any bike I've owned. In fact it's sitting in the garage right now waiting for two tires (that's about $900-$1100 parts and labor alone), more clutch service (because apparently the fuel gauge wasn't the only thing they fucked up during the clutch pack install), and a valve job (another $800-$1000). So yeah... most expensive bike I've owned. Granted, it's fun, but in the only 10k miles I've owned it I've probably put close to half the amount my Sprint cost me in 40k miles of driving.

  • @zimtuff
    @zimtuff 5 років тому

    I get over 320klms (200 miles) + regularly from the tank. If you are going by the gauge, the light comes on when you still have a 1/3 of a tank left. I have checked these figures with a GPS etc and they are consistent over the last 8 years.

    • @gurrenridin
      @gurrenridin 5 років тому

      As I noted: "Around town" as in commuting in awful stop and go traffic or hooning around with friends on sport bikes. You're likely doing very gentle miles where you can sit in top gear cruising. On a trip to Arkansas I was able to pull 200 miles out of a tank, but then I can do the same on my sport touring Ducati with about 1.3 gallons less fuel. TL;DR: it gets far less mileage per gallon than any bike I've owned no matter how I'm driving it.

  • @dozervin1
    @dozervin1 5 років тому

    $1100. for tire changes? Wrong! Rear tire change is no big deal. If you go to the dealer you will get ripped off. Just put a car tire on the back and it will be 25- 30 thousand miles before it wears out. My last rear tire cost $120.

After a few trips I realized this bike has incredible balance, except at slow speed.It feels a bit top heavy when slowing or stopping. I always get that left foot out quick when stopping.
