Longburn Freezing works by Ward Demolition
Longburn Freezing Works was constructed in 1890 with additions added up until it’s closure in 1987.
The 20,000 square metre site suffered serious decay, partial demolition and salvage theft, over its 30 years of abandonment before Ward Demolition was engaged for the clearing of the site. Constructed during the thick of the Asbestos Era the structures were severely contaminated, with over 800 tonnes of friable and non-friable materials present throughout.
Another key challenge was the 44-metre-high concrete tower that required demolishing within 5 metres of a live kiwirail train track. Due to the size and complexity of the Job we required a collaborative approach between our Auckland based team and our Wellington division to get the job completed safely. 35,910 hours of labour went into the two yearlong project.

Imperial Tobacco Part 1 and 2 Combined

Imperial Tobacco consisted of 7 buildings demolished across a 44,000 square metre site, under a 6 month time frame. 100% of the structure's concrete was crushed onsite and recycled back into the foundations of the new development. A further 5,679 tonnes of concrete was trucked in from other job sites. Meaning 108% of the site’s concrete was recycled with a total of 26,272 tonnes crushed onsite....

The Port Wellington in 2017 was a significant job for us with one of the buildings being extremely close to the road, extra safety measures had to be implemented as explained in this video. I was born in a poor family and I just refused to grow up being poor. Started my own Bussiness and worked 7 days a week, 10 to 12 hours a day. The sacrifices I made to be wealthy were insurmountable. The only regret was a divorce and a bad back from the physical work. Retired at 62 after doing two full time jobs for the past 25 yrs. I missed out on so much that being poor would have made me happier 🤷🏻♂️, having said that be careful what you wish for, yeah I broke the cycle of being poor and my kids will automatically be millionaires but at huge sacrifices. I guess that may make it all worth while. That and being humble in life because to be rich comes with a lot of sacrifices. I pray every day and thank Jesus for all of my blessings and that is more important than all the money in the world. 🙏🏼🙏🏼

I worked for imperial tobacco part time, when I was at uni. They would have free cigarettes you could smoke at tea and lunch breaks. If a tray of 4000 cigarettes fell on the floor, you were not allowed to recycle them they all had to be dumped down the rubbish shoot.
That was a great save, fortune favours the brave….well done on getting the deal across the line and saving the yacht
