The Mad Buckgoat (Ancient Music of Ireland) - The Baltimore Consort
Переглядів 899Рік тому
This album from the Baltimore Consort, a program of “ancient music of Ireland,” was inspired by a traditional song anthology published in Dublin in 1724 (the songs were old even then)-A Collection of the Most Celebrated Irish Tunes at that time-and draws much of its material from the work of historical song collector/publisher Edward Bunting, who spent more than 40 years codifying what until th...

No copyright infringement intended. The music was written by anonymous or less known composers, like G. Seragli or A. Coppini, on texts by Florentine poets. Its style is mostly a straight melodic line and a simple counterpoint with very few musical text interpretations, like the small florid embellishment on 'enjoy' in the 'Ballad of the goddess Minerva'. The dance music alternates slow rhythms...

Nothing like my usual stuff, I know. But all the themes and title screens from this wonderful show are too beautiful to not be seen in one video. (No copyright infringement intended - I'm fairly sure this is well within the "fair use" rule; I only used a few seconds of each episode).

The music and the pictures are delightful ! Thank you for posting.
@@ingriddurden3929 You're very welcome, I'm glad you liked them.
This is now in my "favourites" playlist. Please, can anybody tell me the general dates of these pieces?
Very well chosen tempi!
Great music!
Three minutes in and I’m hooked. Where has this magnificent music been my whole life? ⚜️🇮🇹
@@LukeSilverstar1000 Thanks for the comment, Luke. I'm glad my channel was your introduction to early music. Hope you continue to discover more great historic music.
Very nice 👍🏴
500 years later and its still blowing my mind, and in another 500 years it will be as beautiful
After 6 minutes come the ads. Some of them 4 minutes long. Unless you want to sit next to the computer to listen to music give it a miss guys.
@@telemachus53 I'm very sorry. It's not me who puts the ads on, it's the label that released the album. I'd highly recommend Newpipe or UA-cam Vanced for ad-free listening without paying UA-cam for the privilege.
1曲目が、とても華やかで素晴らしい!!🎉
True.
What's that bass instrument in the Bourée 1? It sounds to me like a dulziane...

I adore Susato. The fanfare (first piece) always makes me imagine the court of Henry VIII and Queen Anne Boleyn before everything went very downhill…
Amei! ❤❤❤❤
Listen to this almost every day during work. This is still the best version of the dances I have found to date. Many thanks for uploading, this video has brought me much joy and got me through some tough days!
You're very welcome! Glad it brings you so much joy.
I agree.
One of the best records in early music history, this unsurpassed version was an unforgettable milestone. Brings back so many memories and long lost youthful sensations.
Da koennt ihr die schlager gut und gerne selber hören ,ich hab keine zeit für der artige lalle ,denn ich höre lieber renaissance und barock an ,ballermann mag ich auch nicht ,

Sublime Michael at his best!
Couldn’t care less if this sounds “dated” to modern HIP listeners, it’s fantastic
My sentiments exactly. I have absolutely no idea who this early music orchestra is. They're listed as "Musica Antiqua", but there are many early music groups called that. And I've also seen them credited as "The Renaissance Music Players". I'd like to know when this was recorded. Sounds like it's probably '60s but it could easily be earlier. I'll probably put up more of this orchestra soon. I think they're brilliant. By the way, your Greensleeves variation is sublime.
@@RenaissanceEarCandy wow, thanks!
This was very good, thank you. Is there anyone who knows anything about the origin or history of this song ? please write it down. Thank you very much. I heard this song in the TV series "Black Sails" and it immediately enchanted me.
I found a little bit about it, which I'll paraphrase here. This tune and the accompanying country dance directions ("For four") were first published together under the title "The Parson's Farewell" by John Playford in the first edition of his 'The English Dancing Master' (1651), however, the melody clearly predates Playford’s publication. Sam Bayard (in his article “A Miscellany of Tune Notes”) found an earlier version of the melody in the Skene Manuscript (c. 1615, No. 14) under the title “Ostend.” Early versions also appear in Adriaen Valerius Nederlandtsche Gedenck-Clanck (1626, as “La Boree”), the Starter’s Friesche Lust-Hof (1621), and the Thysius Lute book (c. 1600); the first two works refer to the tune as a bourrée. It has been sourced to France, where, for example, it appears in a lute collection by Nicolas Vallet entitled Secret des Muses (1615), as “Bouree d’avignon.” The late 17th century Philidor Collection also contains the melody with the same title. As “La Bourée” it was included in Michael Praetorius’s (1571-1621) Terpsichore (1612, No. 32), and as “Stil, stile en reys” (Hush, hush a moment) in Jacob van Eyck’s Der Fluyten Lust-hof. The title in the van Eyck volume refers to a song by Jan Starter that was printed in his aforementioned Friesche Lust-Hof, although it had earlier been published in Boudewijn Hansen Wellens’ ‘t Vermaeck der Jeught (1616)--both volumes give “De nieuwe Laboré” (The New Bourrée) as the indicated melody for the song.
@@RenaissanceEarCandy Thank you very much for finding the origin of the song for me. Then this tune was a well-known Western European hit in the 16th century, in today's terms, and, as I can see, it was a hit for a long time. I'm not even surprised, because it's a very, very magical tune, it really enchanted me! Ever since I heard this tune in -Black Sails, - can't stop listening to it, I wake up at least once a day to listen to it. Amazingly beautiful music! It makes me sad that I can't play an instrument, because if I could I would always play this tune. Thank you very much again, have a nice day.
This is a wonderful compilation! I have played it every day since I discovered it a fortnight ago.
Among the single greatest albums of all time. Thank you!
You're very welcome! More music coming soon.
Have you listened to the earlier album called "Two Renaissance Dance Bands" with the Early Music Consort of London, led by the late David Munrow? It would be interesting to hear your impressions or comparisons.
Every casual days goes by like the wind while listening to this heroic music in Winter Tokyo I'm on cloud

damn this music makes me want to find holy grail or smth
Why is this on the Medieval vibes playlist even though 1651 is after the Middle Ages was over?
Well, that's Spotify for you. I guess it can give you medieval vibes without actually being medieval. Well, that's my understanding of the word vibes anyway.
Wonderful tempo and expression.
I used to have that CD. Thanks for bringing it back! The Susato CD also.
The Susato cd is also up on my channel but it hasn't got the album cover as the picture. I used a different picture with each piece of music. A picture that I thought matched each piece.
