Two of my four children have Duplication 15q 13.1 Syndrome. They are both males. My youngest was diagnosed around 10 or 11 years old and then they tested the whole family and that’s when we found out our oldest who was around 16 also had it. They are both adults now. The oldest is 30 and is finally living alone with a girlfriend. My youngest is 24 and still lives with me and probably will until I can’t take care of him. The youngest also has microcephaly and mild cerebral palsy. They diagnosed him with having moderate classical Autism with high functioning IQ. The oldest has PDD-NOS with severe learning disabilities. My other two children are another boy(age 28) and a girl(age 26). This male has ADHD and OCD. My daughter is listed as gifted. She is getting married this weekend and then graduating medical school two weeks from now. Life was a struggle for my youngest the first four years of his life. He was critically ill and wasn’t expected to live pass five years. But he was a fighter and made it. Just do what you know is right for your child and never give up. Your family will be in my prayers.

I hate dup 15 q. All infants should be given a gene test, this is horrible.

I think my youngest son could be a good speaker for this alliance. He and his oldest brother have Duplication 15q. His oldest brother is age 26 and has PDD-NOS, Tourette's and severe learning disabilities. My youngest is named Zachary and is 20 years old. Along with Dup15q he was also born with microcephaly. He was critically ill his first four years of life including four near death experiences. He took his first steps at age 2 1/2 and spoke his first word at age 4 1/2. He is quite unique and strong. Having over 12 pneumonias, RSVP, numerous other illnesses, over 8 surgeries and to many procedures to count he also suffered a drowning accident all before he was 5. He wasn't supposed to live past this age. They also told us he would never talk, read, write and be mentally 3 his entire life. He graduated high school at age 18 with a regular diploma then went on and obtained a certification in Gaming Programming. He does have difficulty with his Autism and mild CP but I think if you would work with him he could be a very inspirational speaker to encourage others with this syndrome to stay strong and work hard so you can accomplish anything you want.
