18:15 IDK if I already said that, but I found a way to get read of the distance sensors reach problem: by placing 2 camera block far away from each other, you can create a telemeter, and evaluate the distance with the new functions block. the only problem, is that u have to aim manually the 2 cameras, and that means that the target cannot move otherwise it wouldn't work. I've made an artillery system using this tech, and it works great, but its slow as F and has a very limited range. (around 6 times the diameter of the spauwn circle thing)

Also really want some kind of radar block / distance sensor that specifically targets other vehicles. This would make missiles and other things a lot easier to do.

sadly flashbulb think they're too famous to care about what their community actually wants, a feature to make the distance sensor only detect vehicles or only the map would be amazing and would be hated by literally no one but it will never happen :(

I don't think they should add heatseekers or radars directly, but I'm all for distance sensors having more range, using cones or pyramids instead of raycasts, the ability to swap between viewing terrain only, creations only, and both. Even if it was terrain only and you had enough range, you could take the difference between the the unfiltered sensor and the terrain sensor to know if you've spotted a creation. If a heat seeker or radar was added, it would have to only output on one axis so you could actually use it, making it them like compasses or angle sensors, but probably with a limited scope. To me that seems to overpowered since compasses can easily be tuned to be perfectly accurate and IR missiles would just be too boring for the game, even though they'd probably suck at killing air targets, it would probably be perfectly good at killing ground targets.

Yes, if this happens, with all the new logic blocks it could be possible to make an ai vehicle, one alternative for it could be: BLOCK: radar DESCRIPTION: the radar block can detect at any range, i shoots out a beam that is bounced back to it (this isn't a weapon it deals no damage and is invisible), it gives out a higher output depending on how long the beam takes to reach it (it crosses 1000m every 0.1 seconds (to get there not back) It can be set to the same modes as a distance sensor and can be set to only detect blocks/terrain

The official reason why the distance sensor is limited to 50 meters is due to the raycast returning a hit based on the faces of an in-game model, and since the LODs of far away objects degenerate the faces, that means the sensor becomes imprecise and unreliable. That said, they are still reliable at 200m when people were able to hack that in. Alternatively a long distance sensor that detects in a conical shape would be much more reliable and useful...
