Ford Laser TX3 Turbo 4WD POV test drive. What's wrong with the engine? The reason it sounds like it does is because the plugs are fouled. I don't drive it enough. Too many cold starts and not enough driving. Also the tune could do with some work. This is a MAZDA MX-3(323sport) MAZDASPEED 1.8TURBO 4×4.
This car is basically a detuned Mazda Familia GTX with a different body.
Ibwas addicted to these cars back in the day. Cldnt afford an evo or rex. Had found a familiar gtr front cut and did a conversion on my kh2 awd. Never driven anything that fast stock with 20psi before
I am seriously considering kswapping one of these or at least seeing if the crv gearbox with adapter plate matches up instead of the gt4 one

It's mounted on the factory location. It replaces the standard ecu. There is more detail in one of my other videos.

Do you mean lowering setup? I don't remember the brand of the springs and shocks, but they have been changed for about two inch lower springs and adjustable shocks. I'm not running coil overs as I don't like how they ride and this is not a race car. I've also upgraded the sway bars and most of the bushes but as everything was done about twenty years ago, it needs replacing.

Mate love the story about it and some history. Wish I kept mine and restored it. I had a black one like yours, went through 4 boxes. It had exhaust that was too large for it, wheels, lowered, and some boost. Sigh!
I am working on a new series featuring this car. I'm hoping for it to be out in the middle of this year. I'm just waiting on my new workshop to be finished.

This was my first car in high school in America… we’ll sort of. The highest performance model we/I had was the Escort GT. Essentially the same exact car minus the turbo and AWD line. I had no idea these were produced elsewhere. But, as always, the Aussies got all the cooler ford products… love it though!
I love the TX3 in the KF/KH models. I owned a non turbo KF some years ago and loved it. I just wish I never sold it. They are getting so hard to come by now.

That my man is an absolutely beautiful car! I just brought a FWD version, it's only mods are it's slightly lowered and has an exhaust, I'm tempted to start doing thing to it but it's so original and only has 130ks, there aren't many unmodified examples still around.
Thank you. I found these cars are best when only lightly modified. Even the non turbos are fun little cars.

Very nice car. How much you putting at the wheels?
Thank you. The car hasn't been on a dyno for about 20 years and a lot has changed, but it made about 134kw at the wheels back then. I'm not chasing power with this car as I just want something that drives nice and doesn't destroy gearboxes. If it is any indication, before I did the new ECU the car felt about as fast as my Focus RS in a straight line.

Best to find some bg gtr 5 stud hubs for the front and rear. Will bolt straight in, gives you larger rotors and better caliper bolt spacing for upgrades. You can then mount GH Mazda 6 calipers and 300mm rotors which will fit behind 16” wheels. Best of luck
Definitely an option but I don't like my chances of finding GTR parts. My plan is to make some custom caliper mounts which gives me a good choice of calipers and rotors. I have been looking at a 5 stud conversion but only if I decide to change wheels.
GTR bits do come up from time to time but are quite rare. Im sure others have done upgrades that utilise the 22v caliper bridge bolt spacing

A video showing the 4wd system is a great idea. I will add it to the list. To be brutally honest about the 4wd conversion it would be significantly cheaper to just buy a 4wd TX3. The turbos have a different underpan than the non turbos and there are significant differences in the wiring and fuel system.
@@nrkeng is the front drive body different from the awd body. I am planning to convert my Ford laser Tx3 to awd. I am from Malaysia
In relation to the body I believe the only difference is the underpan where the drive shaft goes. You really need to have a 4WD donor car to do the job properly. If you don't have the skills yourself, make sure you find a very good auto body technician. I have seen it done before here in Australia on other types of cars (Nissan Pulsar and Mitsubishi Lancer) but they are few and far between as the cost far out weights the benefits. I wish you luck in the conversion and if you do decided to do it, make sure you record it and send me the link.

@@nrkeng I've got a 91 KF2 as well. It's completely stock but needs a freshen up. I like your idea of a resto mod. I want to keep as much originality as I can but also make it usable as parts are getting harder to find.

@@nrkeng Copy mate. I'll do a video in the future and send the link. It's been well looked after, I bought it from the original owners last year. They bought it brand new from Swan Motors Narrabeen in 1991. It just needs some TLC as any 32 year old car does 👍

Yes. The plus are fouled from too many starts and not enough driving. It usually clears up after driving for a while. The tune on the old computer was also very rich which didn't help.
Bro would 17x7s fit with stock height?
I would consult a wheel shop for this. However mine are 17 inch and fit with lowered springs.

Sounds like blown head gasket, running on 3 cylinders... Almost sounds like a vw beetle
It had fouled plugs at the time. They usually cleared out after driving for a few minutes. I'm trying to sort this out with the new ECU.

I'm running an aftermarket ECU so I am using a MAP sensor which replaces the flow meter.
