This place is awesome . He called me today about my order because he wanted to help me with my situation. We talked about what I want to do in the spring and we are going to come up with a game plan . Again very knowledgeable and a heck of a guy

Hi.. new owner of a 6.0 ..I appreciate your time making videos for us… my question is do I need fuel pressure and oil pressure to hear 👂 my injector clatter ? I changed my HPOP AND installing a fass fuel pump … IM NOT DONE WITH THE INSTALL.. when I turn my key on I don’t hear the injectors clatter… or do I need to finish the fass fuel system so diesel can go in the injectors any help will be greatly appreciated … from HAWAII 🤙🏽
I’m watching all your videos.. I really like your approach.. more to come
ALSO DO I HAVE TO REPLACE VALVE COVER GASGETS?
CANT U FILL HIGH PRESSURE MANIFOLD WITH AS MUCH OIL AS POSSIBLE BEFORE U REINSTALL IT...WOULDNT TAKE SO MUCH CRANKING ON STARTER??
I had 40 then switched to eco because of the other mods I had it made a little too much smoke at altitude. I like a pure clean burn. Both were amazing and wanted to keep the 40 but at altitude I drive often. Its been maybe 10 years withthe liftime FICM with eco and its been 100%. Very happy with it.
What fucking year model you talking about
Thank you! Praise Jesus!
Doing an EGR Cooler on a 6.0 Powerstroke I broke one of those prongs on an injector having a high circuit code on that injector now.. What should I do change out the Pigtail? replace the whole injector? The customer said replacing the injector is fine. But since I did it looking for a cost effective way to get this resolved. Do you have any recommendations? Im less than a year new to Diesel engine repairs.
Had the FICM on my 2006 repaired back in 2013. It is now late 2024 and the FICM has over 100,000mi. on it. The truck has right at 300,000. Ed took the time to talk to me and educate me on some things about the 6.0l. The lesson that day was keep strong batteries in the truck. Anyway, great people there.
Awesome video! Extremely informational and honest! Keep up the great work! I run the Atlas 80 on all 3 of my 6.0L trucks! I absolutely love that tune!
@@vinnyhimes1077 how is the Atlas 80 as far as towing purposes , too much? Do I have to upgrade my injectors? Will it be smokey?
Not the best way to do it, the best way is to prime the system through the ICP port. Remove ico sensor and use an oil squirt can to fill the oil rails with oil. For late 04 and up if you have the driver's side oil rails out then you can also pull the plug where the ICP would go if mounted on pass side and fill the oil rails from the driver's side as well. 2 or 3 cranks and it will fire up
If only there was a way to do do this on the early 04. Recently had the HPOP cover off twice. First when replacing the pump...which now I think was just the stupid ICP since I FUBARed the "disconnect" test so replaced the HPOP (probably unnecessarily though did get some gurgle during the air test) then again when I found out I rolled the D-ring. I thought about maybe priming through the J-tube? But didn't.
@@RuralTowner priming thru J tube does work, you can even prime thru the ICP port afterwards
@@robertford8371 Problem is mine is the early 04 with the O-intake. PITA to get to the tube again. Also my ICP port is...not fun to reach.
Thank you Great video I tried the remote with the power lead to the positive cable in the past Did the third option this time and with my snap on solus legend helped watching the oil pressure achieve up to 1200 psi Worked better than the previous option. Again Thank you Full procedure worked beautifully Cold soaked after for about 6 plus hours and fired up with about a second and a half of cranking time cold start Awesome!! You’ll get my FICM biz now
I noticed a week ago I was driving around with a bad passenger battery and my charging system was only putting out 12 to 12.5 volts after I fixed these issues now my truck is making noise and feels like I lost power, it still runs and ficm is reading 47.5 to 48 volts do you think my ficm shit the bed??
Thank you sir 🙏
So is the atlas 80 "safe" for stock head bolts for normal driving?
It's perfectly safe, I have factory head bolts on one of my 3 6.0L's and I run the Atlas 80 with a 9" lift and 37" tires. I beat on it like it owes me money and I've had zero issues.
Good explanation of the o-ring replacements pro and cons. Thank you.
What would it cost me to ship my 06 ficm in for repair and the atlas 40 ficm tune and be shipped back?
Working Onan '05 6.0L. the stand pipes & dummy plugs have been changed, hpop has been changed, along with the hpop o rings. EGR delete has not been done. The small black o rings in the tops of the injectors were changed - no high pressure oil. Have low pressure oil, air tested hpop - have air leaks on the tops of the injectors. No pressure at the ICP when cranking ( can put your finger over the ICP port - no pressure when cranking.plugged the test tool for the hpop so it goes to full pressure ( wasn't sure if IPR was working - cranked - no hpo - any ideas?
The injectors are not supposed to leak
Terrible audio, man. A basic lapel mic will vastly improve the quality.
Hey I had my truck sitting and someone took my ecm now I got a new one now my transmission is in limp mode well tow mode blinking how fix this problem
Someone needs to post times where he actually tells you the steps to do it. I loge knowing why and how something works inside and out. But i need to know how to do it. Bring the rain
I know 20 year olds who look older than you.. I know 80 year olds who don’t look much older.. You have aged well bro! Never slow down and you’ll never grow old.. Laugh out loud because it’s the best medicine! Keep on keepin on bro ❤
Post up a before and after on a block. In the process of doing this now with a stone a got from you.
Billy Hewitt (R.I.P. brother you are greatly missed) did prove the 6.0 powerstroke is by far the lowest cost of ownership diesel on the road. It takes a meticulous maintenance regiment, but as an 05 super duty owner with 495k on a stock head bolt set up, I can say (from experience) that the internet stigma that surrounds these motors is usually attached to an uneducated or ignorant individual.
It comes from people that have torn them completely down. They are junk.
Where can I get more information on the actual realities of maintaining a 6.0 powerstroke because if what you say is correct I'm definitely interested I was leaning towards a 7.3 but 6.0s are cheaper.
And This Honesty is why I keep coming back as I need items. I also highly recommend Ed and Crew as they are some of the most Honest people in the business
My early '04, (July '03) 6.0 has been in the garage for way too long. Going on 2 years and I have about 3/4 tank of fuel in it. I'm in Boise and it's been both cold, below freezing and hot, over 100°,for extended periods. I planned to pump the fuel into a barrel and replace it. I also plan to use these HSS products, but how bad would it be to use the additives with the old diesel fuel? The fuel isn't showing signs of gelling since it was cold this winter. What are your thoughts?
Is there a way to tell what ficm version I’m on? Thanks
I love Eds advice, literally always waiting for a new video to drop.
I have a isuzu c223 im doing alot of work to . Got any tips for head studs? I know the factor bolts can handle alot but i want my kids to own this dinosaur one day
Unfortunately there is no such thing as "Buy Once, Cry Once" for a Powerstroke 6.0L. Repaired the FICM? Now you have a high pressure oil leak from a bad gasket. Repaired the gasket? Now your HPOP has failed. Repaired your HPOP? Uh oh your oil cooler is plugged up with casting sand and sludge. Fixed your oil cooler? Better do the EGR cooler as well. Stand pipes, dummy plugs, injector failure, head gasket failure, injector rail cup o-rings, injector o-rings, crush washers.......this engine is a POS. It's a GREAT engine for power......when it's running right. Unfortunately, it's often not running right. I still am so happy I traded in my '04 Powerstroke and got the hell out from under it.
Idk man, my 04 has 243k and putts right along with an 80hp atlas tune non studded. You must have been doing something wrong lol
@@hakrx1 had to have been, it's been noted time and again these engines work wonderfully at stock if you take care of em, the bottom end I've even heard is good for something stupid like 5 or 600hp from factory but iunno about all that! I do know that once you start slacking on maintenance (or your' mechanic is trash) and the top end starts going bad is when you start having issues throughout the entire motor, so I mean I will give him that once that ooooone thing goes bad it can very easily cascade, but you have to be fucking up pretty hard; plus with the knowledge we have now on fluids (Don't use Motorcraft gold, if you need to add stuff to your oil/fluid it's the wrong fluid no matter what the dealer says...) and common issues like ficm voltage from shitty batteries these engines when done right are reliable as fuck. The REAL issues arise when these goobers start dumping more fuel into the tune to jump the horsepower numbers and not doing the necessary work on the engine, like all those gaskets and o-rings they were just talking about going bad are going to go bad at some point when you modify the parameters they're meant to work within.
@@D34THW41K3Rnoted so well how great they are, Ford and Navistar dropped them as soon as possible and cost both companies millions. Cognitive dissonance on parade.
@@asherdie uh huh, and 20 years later we still have quite a few on the road... Couldn't be me coping, nah not at all 😂 Also, if you're going to use big words like cognitive dissonance you should at least Google what they mean; what part of MY behavior and beliefs are contradicting each other right now my guy? I believe 6.0s are good engines, and as such I physically own one of them too and can confirm it's perfectly fine at (mostly) stock, exactly like my comments have said. There's no dissonance there at all between the two, just the fact you can't wrap your head around my own experiences being different than what every idiot on the internet has said before about their moon-tune shitbox.
Tool bag 😂
Ed, a consummate professional, and highly skilled in answering every question posed. Very down to earth with me and my 6.0 diesel issues. Advice worth every minute.
These fail all the time until they are replaced by an upgraded/updated model.
At what point do I need to upgrade the wires ?
Only 2017 plus? What about a '05 Excursion? 🤪
After installing these 2 solenoids, my truck shifts REALLY fast into reverse and with more force than shifting into drive. Did I mix up the two solenoids or is that normal?
The starter was turning over for the first part of the pressurizing. But when I came back a couple hours later to do the second part of it. Now the starter isn't working at all. Any ideas? I don't want to replace the starter if I don't have too. Also all fuses look good.
Thank you for the very informative video, I just subscribed and will start scouring all your other videos
Clearly this dude can't count 😂
Nonsense, you torque your studs in sequence just like you would when R&R ing a head gasket, or head, rocker box, only you don’t break the head gasket seal, so you don’t have to risk running into sealing issues, if you loosen each bolt 1/4 turn at a time, twice, remove them, clean out the holes, then install the studs one at a time and snug them to a good 50 pounds in sequence then start torquing them at 70# ending at 240# 250# whatever they torque to, I have the ARP 2000 kit, I don’t remember the specs it was either 240-250ftlbs. but removing the head when there’s no gasket failure is irrational and to say the head is warped when it’s still sealing with the stock fasteners is a shot in the dark conclusion. You did touch an important topic, and that is not to individually replace and then fully torque the head studs one at a time. You were on point there, but to say the only solution was to pull and machine the head on an engine you’ve never even seen or heard let alone inspected, tested, gaged, or miked, when there are effective and reliable ways to replace fasteners without warping or cracking the head. I don’t mean to sound hostile or judgmental, I know you were giving advice on the side of caution, I’m just an advocate of alternative methods especially when I know them to be reliable and mechanically sound, nothing personal, and again I concur that your information was based on a valid issue.
Can you mix LV and SP in a 5R110w?
I wouldn't. Since this video, there are multiple cases of failure after switching to LV. Have a case of LV sitting in the garage, but I won't use it. 110 Torqshifts do not like LV. SO is harder to find, but most Ford dealers can still get it. You may have to special order it. To me it's with the wait and cost.
Thank you very much, you helped me
You can't torq them to the original spec then tightened them in order ...?
Thank you! ❤❤❤
Where's the video that shows this job?
Took me 4-15 second cranks to breach the 500psi mark. However I only had the driver side rail off. I deffinately heard the sound change you described.
Spend the money and get the new parts in my opinion hell you're looking at $250 at a shop for the full tilt boogy than $175 to fuk around and find out that it's gonna be another 250 to do it right just my opinion but you make the call If you can do the labor yourself and have enough talent to do this flawlessly then run with it but if you are paying someone else to do it I don't think $250 in 2024 is bad at all
I’m doing some research on this as I’m considering getting a 6.0 excursion. When I first heard of the over volt mod for the ficm. I immediately thought, wait, the longevity of the injectors would suffer right? I mean when you over volt anything the electronics will run quicker but also burn out quicker as well. Thanks for the info!
