Short and Simple Breathing Meditation to Experience a Silent Mind by Rob Smith
Spending some time in what is called 'the silence' (someone is conscious, but without thoughts) is very important for many reasons (which I can expound upon later if you're interested). One simple, yet effective/powerful, technique for achieving this state is a breathing exercise. What you do is, close your eyes, and focus on the 'sensation' of the breath at the tip of your nostrils as it goes in and out. You don’t ‘think’ about it, or analyze it, you just become very aware of what the breath feels like as it goes in and out at the tip of your nostrils. Do this for a minute or two (or even less) and then switch your attention to your mind. You will notice that thoughts have stopped, you are now in 'the silence.' Spend some time there, and inevitably you will find yourself back thinking thoughts (which is, as you probably know by now :~), OK! Just go back to paying attention to the breath at the tip of your nostrils, and then after a bit, notice the 'silence' (lack of thoughts in your mind). You can do this for 5 or 10 minutes if you wish. The best time to do it is after 'regular' meditation as your mind is already settled down. Give it a try and let me know how it goes below. PS - One thing I forgot to mention... it becomes easier over time to spend more time in 'the silence.' Not only because you've been practicing it, but hopefully because you've also been working on releasing the samskaras that generate many of our thoughts. And, on a more 'mystical' level, when you're in 'the silence' then ideas and inspiration can come THROUGH you TO you. You won't notice them while you're IN the silence (because, of course, there are no thoughts in the silence), but they will come to your awareness sometime later, often soon afterwards. But, as usual, don't look for results, that will slow down or even block the process. Don't worry, you'll know when something 'comes through.' :~) :~) :~)
P.S. For those of you whom would like to do the SBM practice many times a day to keep "dipping" into The Silence, here are the instructions for Short and Simple Breathing Meditation.
Welcome to the Short and Simple Breathing Meditation SSBM - a super simple and fun-loving way to experience a moment of The Silence (a brief time of the mind being quiet) in just 1-2 minutes!
Ready? Here's all you need to do: Close your eyes, take a little deeper breath, and focus on the sensation of air flowing by the very tip of your nose. Feel the gentle touch of the air on the tippy-top of your nose for 5-10 breaths.
Now, it's time to switch your attention to your mind and see if it's quiet. Just notice.
Eventually, thoughts will try to sneak in, relax and return to the sensation of the air flowing by the very tip of your nose.
You'll notice how quickly your mind can experience The Silence.
Take this quick SSBM break whenever you need it - during work, before a big meeting, or after a hectic day. But mainly, practice it when many times a day for example at the top of the hour for no reason except for the pleasure of experience some silence.
Remember, this tiny practice packs a powerful punch! Enjoy it and let the magic of The Silence allow your the moments to unfold in your day and be nourished by your day as life makes it all the way through YOU!

    The few videos I've watched of yours are all videos you have to read, not audio so you can just listen. To those who have health issues, (a lot of Mickey's followers) this can be exhausting or hard to sit and read all the words and try and take in. Do you have any videos with voice audio? That aside, your videos are beautiful, and the wording is wonderful. TY.

    How do you “relax your muscles” do you just sit still and look at the muscle that has tension ???? When I notice the disturbance I tend to slightly fidget or move around alittle while I’m sitting when I’m sitting down like I be feeling like I wanna get up so how do I make the fidget or moving slightly around to stop? Just sit still???

    • @untetheredsoulbookgroup
      @untetheredsoulbookgroup 4 місяці тому

      Great questions. You sound like you are really tuning in and really want to get this. I will tell you it takes listening to this audio many times to get it to work. In the repetition you pay attention to different aspect of it. It's the deepest technique that I know of and of the people I've been around it takes most people about 3 weeks - 6 months of practicing on Low Hanging Fruit (small stuff) to grasp the "Relax" aspect of this. And OMG once you have it you have it for life like riding a bike. So to answer your question, how do you get the fidgeting to stop, you don't get it to stop you allow it to be and in stead of focusing on "I need to stop my body from moving." You notice first that you are doing that "Trying to Stop" and you place your attention on your any where you are feeling disturbed about "my body not stopping." It's usually in your heart or belly but do a body scan from your lower torso to your head. Noticing any tension that there and then you can just to sense it tense up the muscle more and then relax. I find that people who have a hard time relaxing know how to tense the muscle up more and then relax. Keep your attention as much as possible on the muscle (belly, shoulders, throat, jaw, forehead, etc.) and if you find your attention drifting to your body movement keep your attention on the body movement. And please listen to this audio daily or a few times a day for at least 3 weeks. If you want to read it instead you can find it on our website. www.untetheredsoulgroup.com to print it out. I would suggest reading or listening to The Noticing Game as a precursor to R&R.

      Once you practice enough and listen to this audio every day for three weeks which is what we generally suggest. You will have realizations along the way that will answer your question. Generally, what happens is people start realizing that they are separate from their thoughts? Right now, not only do you pay close to attention to your thoughts you may think you actually are your thoughts. Overtime you will begin to see that change Best of luck try this for at least a month.

      Sorry about that <3 Not sure what you mean but I'd suggest that you turn off the music and or slow down the video in setting so you can grasp it. Not sure that helps. And Relaxing about R&R is a thing for our members. When you R&R judgements about your environment is part of R&R process of a samskara surfacing and if you get caught up in listening to your mind judging things just R&R there's nothing for you to do. People get out of deep meditation and a samskara is in the middle of processing out and the meditator out of no where will yell at someone for the silliest thing.... yep this is the voice of the samskara not the True Self. It's difficult to catch the difference between the ego and the higher Self in the beginning but after doing this for 6 years it's a little easier not perfect. Enjoy the process as much as you can.

      Good question. And I would say to yourSelf "GOOD" I'm glad it here because it gets me to do the R&R. Living in Gratitude for disturbance is the deeper practice. If it doesn't go away for years say "GOOD". I like to use the mantra Mickey talks about "I can handle this." Eventually you use "I can handle this" that it will be going on in the background 24/7 and you will not care if there a feeling that you want to release. You are feeling joy even with the disturbance. Read the book Living Untethered for more steps to this process. You are just beginning what you are talking about is masters level. So let yourself be a beginner. I've been doing it for 6 years now and I'm still a beginner and maybe I have not gotten rid of the big stuff but I've gotten rid of a lot of letting things which makes space for the bigger stuff to come up. I also recommend doing Transcendental Meditation.... that helps get rid of samskaras daily 20 minutes twice a day automatically. Hello, I am currently reading Living Untethered and have a question. Michael speaks of a hypothetically early childhood experience of seeing a rattle snake out there, go into fear mode and then spending the rest of that life being afraid of snakes. I am having a hard time with this example because I believe it is perfectly normal and human to react with fear when a rattlesnake comes close to them. I am so happy this group exists because on my many year spiritual path, I feel that Michael Singer is on to something profound and this practice of relax and release seems to have much promise.

    I can’t find a spot where the tension is. Sometimes when i get anxious thoughts, i get like a quick feeling in my gut or chest or probably my heart does an intensive beat, then it disappears even if i try to scan my body for any feeling. Mostly when i have disturbing thoughts, i can’t find any real tension in my body. If my shoulders, arms or legs are tense, is it what i’m looking for? I feel like mostly it’s my limbs that are tense but not my gut or chest. My heart beats fast too but it happens even when i don’t have any thoughts

    Thank you for making this. I love Mickey's teachings because they are so down to earth in explanation. However, I must say that I've struggled to figure out how to apply the 'relax and release' process that he talks about so often because I found it (ironically, as it's an absolute key) to be one of the few abstract concepts in the teaching. This video is a superb translation of abstract terms, in a spiritual context, into simple and practical steps. Most importantly, these steps are easy to remember at the crucial moments in life when emotional fluctuations arise.

    Hi Rob & Mark, Thank you so much for making this video. I watch it a lot and it has really helped me understand the subject - object relationship on a deeper level. And slowly but surely understanding myself as awareness. The realisation that our attention/awareness is our Spirit/Higher Self has made a big difference. It's not so nebulous anymore. I have a few questions I hope you can help me with. 1) When you mention the 'heart', are you referring to the physical heart or the heart centre or our emotions? 2) In the video you mention chi, shakti, prana. Is this the same as our awareness, Spirit or Higher Self? If not what is it? 3) In regards to letting go, I always thought I had to let go of something. Is it as simple as observing 'the disturbance' from awareness? And I guess letting go of my resistance to feeling uncomfortable? Thank you for your help, Will

    • @untetheredsoulbookgroup
      @untetheredsoulbookgroup Рік тому

      1. The heart space in the middle of you chest. 2. Chi, Shakti and Prana are the same as spirit. Awareness and Higher Self is a little different. Awareness, in my opinion, is your ability to Notice, either inside (thoughts, images, of body sensations) or ourside in the enviroment 5 senses. The Higher Self is when you are less attached to what you notice and because you are less attached or fused with what you notice you can actually relax and release. Make sense. • @markdjembe

      yes any non-peace body sensation or personal mind activity. non-peaceful stuff is coming up to leave our system, to purge and we don't let it because we (all of us) close down which pushes down the very thing that would help us feel better. Your INNER spicket is open and peaceful, so your energy system says this is a good time to let some old stuff go, when I say old, it could be from five minutes ago, 10 minutes ago, 40 years ago. But it's usually last in first out. So back to what I was saying, you're relaxing and having a good old time with your day and your body says it's safe to purge some of the old crapola, so it does that and most like it's something that is not peaceful (what stored with paid comes up AS pain), e.g., body sensation or a thought (when you catch it early enough, you catch it as a simple body sensation in the heart, belly, throat, etc, but that's usually only for the easy stuff so no worries if you can't catch it early before there's lots of thoughts, this is why your doing your practice of relax and release to eventually catch the crapola coming up as body sensation). Again, you're relaxing and having a good old time with your day and your body says it's safe to purge, let go of some of the old crapola, so it does that and doesn't feel comfortable and you close down your heart before you can catch it. The closing down your heart does two things it makes the discomfort worse and it make the crapola go back to long term storage in the body. But yogis like you know the just noticing this discomfort growing is 90% of the work and we can do something about it since we noticed it. YeY for us. As you get comfortable or grateful for this discomfort you'll be able be the noticer and be aware that this discomfort is special and you want to help your body get rid of this stuff. And you realize that by relaxing when the discomfort comes you'll be able to get rid of a lot of crapola that's creating lots of little too big discomforts throughout your day. Yogis look at emotion discomfort as a golden opportunity that it is to relax and let go. They are light diggers (like precious metal diggers) for as they uncover and let go of the dirt the light comes up naturally for long periods of time and when some darkness or crapola come up this is a special time to bring more like by getting rid of things blocking the natural light, spirit, shakti, chi flow. This is why we are here to love the crapola more than anything else, welcome the crapola, bring out the red carpet for the crapola. However you want to think about it being grateful for discomfort allows you to be relaxed as the passing of the blockage goes through. As you relax in the face of discomfort, you'll be more comfortable the next time it comes up... which is HUGE. Thank you.

      In my opinion, disturbance is anything that you notice in your body that non-peaceful - thoughts, images, words, smells, tight or tense muscles. Relaxing and Placing your full attention on disturbance creates energy flowing again. I'm not a doctor but I think much like a heart value... tension prevents flow and relaxation creates flow. Or like the value at the top of the stomach. Tension causes thoughts, images, words... that are disturbing to our equilibrium.

    Hi thankyou for this. I have a question. Whenever I try and relax info the disturbance I get a huge urge to move my body kick my legs and my teeth chatter (I have complex ptsd). Should I fight tbe urge to move which is what my body wants to do? Or shpuld I remain still and ignore that and try and relax? Thankyou.

      If you really need to move then do so however, label that urge as sensation when you notice it. This may help. It may be part of the feeling associated with the samskara that you are trying to release. Maybe clench the muscles in your legs, and then relax them while thinking 'release'.

      Yes So I would actually suggest you learn something like EFT Tapping along side of this. EFT Tapping is amazing for PTSD and working with a therapist to make that happen. But to answer your question what I would do is that I would put my full attention on the sensation of wanting to move and see if you can relax not it but relax yourself behind the disturbance and again EFT will help with this dance.
