Alaskan Grizzly Bear Skull: Finding, Cleaning, Painting US Flag
Join me as I clean and decorate an Ursus Arctos Horribilis (Grizzly Bear) skull.
Found in Alaska last fall. I was able to get a tag (making it legal). I tried burying the skull instead of my normal technique of maceration to clean it.
Then soak in dish soap and water to further clean and de-grease. Then soak in peroxide for a few days to whiten.
Hand-painting was a struggle (I'm no artist).

I have used several different techniques to clean and whiten skulls, but my most common method is by maceration. A slow and nasty process, but the end product is worth it. All skulls are ethically harvested by a professional trapper (me). I usually just throw the skulls in a bucket and place them far from the house. After a couple months, I put them in smaller containers with dish soap and wate...

My buddy caught a small pike in his last year
Gorgeous!
What do you do with the beavers?
I had to show ID before I got my box.
Sending my paperwork off tomorrow for an Expert CMP. Can’t wait!
Expect the 8-12 weeks.
@@johnfalcon84 I’m not too worried about it honestly. Gunbroker is selling non graded M1s for $1400, so I’d gladly wait two months to get a pretty much new one for $1150 with free shipping, no tax, and delivered to my door.
@@EvansSecret Mine showed up Monday, it's really nice.
Darn that was fast, I sent mine out at the end of September, still haven’t gotten anything yet.
@@Slap0ho my order was received, but hasn’t even been processed yet. Patience is key with the CMP lol
ASMR Comancheria.
not intentionally an ASMR video, but that's good to know. thanks!
Imagine that being the last thing you hear.@@tier1trapper747
Nice grouping!
That turned out very cool! Great job my friend!
Awesome song. 👍
Thanks for sharing that. The gloss black gives it a fossilized look. I'd guess you used Gorilla Glue to stabilize it. There's a way to build up "bone" with Super glue and baking powder for that left jaw hinge, but it'd take some experimentation. Great skull,T1T.
@dangvorbei5304 thanks. I used a hot glue gun and some super glue.
Which is the best one to use if you plan to be in the woods around critters you may plan to hunt?
The Pine and Pilsner smells like the woods, but your best bet is to just stay downwind of the herd.
Glad I got all my CMP M1s before 2005. Even then, Winchesters were $600 each.
A. "Mud and the blood and the beer"😂 B. That expression at the very end is me when I saw the spike in my homeowners insurance after these hurricanes.
Looking good. Hope you make a full length video on the topic.
@lpalerme thanks. Yes, I'll put together a full length video, showing wolf, bear, lynx, and wolverine skulls when finished
That's a beauty!
Beautiful rifle, my buddy got a real nice CMP 1911
petrol station innit bruv?
I hope that's at least Scotland.
Would this be a bad rifle for invasive pig hunting?
It's definitely functional and lethal enough, but I'd prefer something with a quick detachable thermal scope.
This video is clear and concise at an elite level.
I live in tok, do you live here year round or just trapping season
I live in Wisconsin. I went up to AK to trap for a month.
You never forget your first beaver .
Springs are very weak on those rbg 1022. Don’t recommend using.
A. We don't have bears in E. Texas (yet), but we do have fire ants aplenty. Trying a few European mounts worked well with deer skulls after about five months in ant piles, with very little smell. Then matte Krylon instead of bleach. B. Cool skunk skull.
Nice... We don't have fire ants in N. Wisconsin (yet).
what watch are you wearing? solid video!
thanks. It's a BENRUS watch.
@@tier1trapper747 BENRUS has a rich history! Thanks for reminding me to get one 😆
Great tips! Thank you for sharing my friend!
fist squeeze is genius
Wishing I was half that flexible to even sit like that. LoL 😆. Standing, sitting on a chair or lying down are the only 3 options for me.
whatever works for you. At least you're still able to sling some lead. Thanks for watching.
not very concealed... setting up like that is a great way for them to see you. the human eye can see very small differences and naturally scans for the shape that you are exactly making, the shape of sholders and head
I think by concealed he means sitting in a bush for concealment or even having a smaller area can allow you to be behind cover and still get rounds down range. As compared to a kneeling position, the sitting would make you more concealed. Also I agree with the shoulder head visualization comment you made. That is why in situations where concealment is important, adding shrubbery or camouflage netting around your helmet/shoulder region is important.
Thanks Bro. This was not a demonstration on concealment or on hunting people. Simply demonstrating how I shoot from the sitting position. If shooting a qualification or competition stage at a range, you are often given the option between sitting or kneeling at a given distance. Sitting will usually be more stable. thanks for watching.
@@Jaggerr556 I didn't mention anything about concealment. I was simply showing the way that I use the sitting position. See the full video here: ua-cam.com/video/Ry0NiLsC05U/v-deo.html
@@tier1trapper747 that’s why I was a little confused on why he was bringing up concealment since that’s a whole separate ballgame. Was just trying to draw some lines to help them understand. Very instructive video and full of good knowledge.
What brand is that optic
it's a Vortex Spitfire. I'm not the biggest fan of Vortex for hunting or long-range shooting, but the 3x prism Spitfire on an AR is pretty sweet. more "pros" than "cons".
What brand is that optic
Sir that's called criss-cross-applesauce 👌 Love your vids!👍
Great video and thanks for sharing... Looking forward to future trapping videos
I'll have to practice these shooting positions while at the range this week.. It looks like it will be raining also to add to the fun.. Im a big fan of Vicking Tactics.. Kyle Lamb has some very nice accessories like his slings for a pretty good price.. On your rifle what trigger do you use? The brand and is it a 1 or 2 stage trigger?
I think this one is an Elftman Match trigger,, single stage. Thanks for watching!
Indian style is approved. I’m 36% Native American DNA 100% American
😆thanks.. I feel weird saying "criss-cross applesauce"
Another great video, and I hope this is what they're teaching during BRM. That's a neat psychosomatic trick about pushing your knees down.
Thanks.. just trying to fit 40 years of experience into a 6 minute video.
The best thing taught in BRM is to keep the same sight picture. All the rest is just a quick overview and very little practice.
@@captainmike808 Yup, but you have to start somewhere. Joe's never going to get the training he needs unless he seeks it out.
Excellent video!!
Glad you liked it!

great video !
Thanks!
Always nice to see some action from the cool guys
thanks for watching!
A. All said succinctly in one take. B. That's a winter triggerguard you can believe gets used as a winter triggerguard.
Thanks.. I made 3 videos today.. prone, kneeling, and standing. All in 1 take. Good eye on the trigger guard
Great video man - lots of solid info there!!!!!
Appreciate it!
Good stuff
One of the many reasons I like this drill is that you get a ton of good training in for a minimum of ammo expense. Everyone should like that.
Nice one, always stressed about running out of ammo in the front of the stack. Perfect drill for that.
It is cheaper and easier to get
US Navy converted some to 308
So easy to convert ...like conversation was made with the M14....from used M1 Grand... magazine and a chamber insert ....7.62x63...7.62x51....
Blasphemy
Back in the 70's Springfield made them in 270, 243 and 25/06. As well as 308. And some with folding stocks. And moded to use BAR mags.
