learn the chord progression, do runs and power chords on two and 3 note combos as much as you can for flavor, and drill that for like a couple days till its fluid. then your brain is in the right mode to learn the song. go grab the free tabs after that, and take it at 50 to 75% tempo, whichever you can manage. I only have like the first 20 bars down right now, not clean, and not at the insane 138 bpm, but i can get a fairly decent run in at 110 rn. My big tip to make things easier: you cant play polyphia pieces like a guitarist. normal technique and lazy thought processing will make it impossible. you have to be intentional about each movement and position. for example when the finger bars early to set up for a chord a couple beats away. like in the intro, you go up and hit 14 to 12 back to 14 from g to b, then slide all the way back down to 8 on the g string, and you need the 7th fret bared for the majority of the next bar. trying to bar it after the transition from 14 to 8 is not gonna cut it, the finger needs to be barred at fret 14 on the g string in order to set up the next part properly. since theres only two notes and no open strings needed, its the right time to bar early to give yourself the advantage. Best way to figure out those fingerings and hand positions is to watch tim's unplugged version at 50% speed and make mental notes of how he is doing it, and which spots you need to change to match. good luck to everyone, and dont beat yourself up too hard. ive been playing for 19 years now. ive been learning playing god for a total of 7 hours now combined from yesterday and today. i only have the first 20 bars memorized and somewhat fluid. be reasonable about how hard you push yourself, dont over practice and cement in bad habits, and make sure to have fun with it.

you need to go for easier songs to learn everything about learning songs and theory, you have to go gradually and then after you did all and came to song level where you can compare difficulty of other songs with playing god you will easier understand what is happening in the riffs,whole song and everything and it will be then much easier to learn it than going from 0 straight to playing god song level
