We am leaving in two weeks for our third Haven cruise. Not planning on leaving it. Just resting away from emails and text and phone calls for six days. The Food is good and the service top level. No need to visit on shore Mexico. Thank you for the review. AL just keep the hurricanes away!

Bologna is a nice city to stay.

Cruise ships are a province of the rich already. Rabble can't even bord a ship for a few hours when it's in port. A born to lose autistic like me, might never get on one. On a cruise, do you really need it rubbed in your face that a VIP can get a palatial cabin walled off from the rest of the castaways? it might get to the point where the poor won't even get cabins anymore-just get a seat that they have to sleep in like a ferry FFS! Or worse yet, towed behind on a raft!

Hi Thia, please let know how to transport from Ravenna cruise port to Marghera Cruise Port. My first cruise Royal Carribean disembark in Ravenna, then I go on second cruise MSC embark in Marghera. Your advise is appreciate and thank you.

How was the smell through the ship? I heard some comments that several spots of the ship stink of cigarette smoke or sewage.

We are here now…09.22.2024. I was concerned about getting up to Fira. We had no wait getting up to Fira and none coming down. There were 3 ships at port. The number of ships makes a huge difference. We also took a private tour of the island…which I would recommend. The crowds were not bad in Fira or Oia.

So weird they didn’t communicate better.

I would say, Santorini is the worst port call in this cruise. 100 % of the cruise passengers will not go back again, we all have very bad experience in this Island. They do not care about the cruise passengers. I do have very bad experience in this island. we have to wait more one hour to get the shuttle boat to shore, Santorini have very limited capability for the large cruise ship, after we landed at the bottom of the cable station, we learned that we may need to wait more than 2 hours for the cable car, so we paid the premium 30 Euros for the ferry ride to OIA, it took less than 15 minutes to reach OIA, once we go there, they rather send the empty ferry back to the landing area., they forced us to take the shuttle bus to the upper cable car landing, we were tired and exhaust, we end up to wait hours under the hot sun for the cable car down the hill, plus the shuttle bus did not drop us off near the cale car station. they drop us off at the beginning of the shopping area, and they want us to do some shopping, it took us another 30 minutes to reach cable station. We need to wait in line for another two hours for the cable cars. Plus many peoples are cut the line, and their security guard let their own people into cable car station without waiting on line. I will never go back to Santorini again in my lifetime.

If you have the extra $ for the Haven, then it's probably worth it. We just got back from a 9 day med cruise on Viva - Disembarkation was a nightmare of waiting for early departure. Stores galore - too much selling of watches, jewelry, art, etc. Main pool is way too small. Food was mediocre unless you were in specialty dining. Never saw the cabin steward for first 2 days since gratuities were pre-paid. Deck 18 games and such were all extras. Excursions were overpriced and most were just hours of bus rides to and from the excursion. If you go to Istanbul and the Grand Bazar you will be accosted by all the sellers of overpriced rugs, spices and other tourist trap items.

hi Thia, than you for the info, so helpful! if we take the train from Venice to Ravenna with transfer at ferrara it says we have 7 minutes to transfer, is that doable? you mention its a small station, we just dont want to miss the next train.. and is 1pm a good time to arrive at Ravenna? or should we pick an earlier train.

Odyssey of the seas is a royal suite class. Does that mean they offer the 11-11 free drinks wine and beer in the suite lounge? We didn’t know about this on the symphony earlier this year and paid for drink packages but from what I have read on like this is only on the oasis class. Thank you so much for the clarification

Please learn how to pronounce the towns. Fira is "feera" not feriya. Oia is "eeya" not oya. Otherwise, great info.

Sounds like they had a horrible travel agent. Lack of sea days? You picked the wrong itinerary. Lack of a Promenade deck? Too lazy to look at a deck plan before booking. Lack of a variety of 24 hour restaurants? Do you know how many cruise lines have “a variety of 24 hour dining venues”? Royal Caribbean? Nope. Holland America? Nope. Celebrity? Nope. Princess? Nope. Carnival? Nope. At least NCL has one, unlike most lines. Obviously you and your cruisers were either ignorant or horribly misinformed before your cruise.

I sail the Haven and love it. When I get back home I always tell myself you dont need to spend that kind of money for a cruise. Then somehow I always end up back in the Haven. Although I dont cruise that much anymore so it takes me 2 years to pay off that Haven cruise in advance.

the pasteichis, krokets, Loempia, snoesjes, and pruim chines (sweet) are absolutely delicious. The Ponche Crema and other liquors, scuh as those made from Cactus are great and unique. The ABC islands are unique and special with their very diverse cultures..

Yeah i did ice-skating on the day at sea. Ended up fracturing my shoulder.

My husband and I are going on Jewel of the Seas for a 10 day cruise. I am worried about being able to iron or steam dress clothing for formal wear. Do you have any suggestions on that? And is it expensive if choosing to have laundry services do that for you?

I called Royal Caribbean and they said they only have buss service to and from Bologna airport.

Hi Thia, are you saying that Royal Caribbean will have busses at the train station in Ravenna to take people to the port. Our cruise is Saterday September 7.

I just remade diamond since somehow all my points vanished and it showed all my pased sailing canceled. Im still arguing then wheres my refund if i so called wasnt on. This is awful !! I always loooked forward to meeting new friends and the great snacks and coffee❤

With my husband we will arrive at the Bologna airport one day before the Royal Caribbean departure. I have tried to understand how to get to Ravenna by train but some say it takes 5 hours and others 1 and a half hours. It is necessary to buy the tickets before or on the same day. we will arrive? Highly overrated, much better ships on much better prices you can find. Uniworld gives high comission to the travel agents and they push poor clients to go for it. Be aware - it's too boring for young people. Frozen food presented as local market, staff is east european low level, bad English. Check your luggage for missing items before you leave - happens often in Uniworld.

Oh God, Thia. It happened to us and ruined our cruise. We took our first river cruise last fall on Avalon. It was Eastern Europe. Included Prague and then bussed us to the Danube and the over to Vienna ending in Budapest. Well at that time of the year the river levels are low. I took this into account in planning the cruise. Based on the Boards, the lay of the land was that if the water level was low going into Budapest. They would bus us there and put us up on a hotel. Fine with me and I was actually looking forward to this as it would include a hotel room in Budapest. But those A Holes doublecrossed us and ported in some unkown place two hours from Budapest and they bussed us over for the day. We saw nothing because they gave us no time there and we all lived in fear of missing the bus as we had no idea where the ship was ported. The next day they picked us up early to take us to the airport and this was during the rush hours. It took over THREE HOURS TO get to the Budapest airport and we should have missed our flight but for a flight delay leaving the airport. I was so pissed. Never Again Avalon. I could see the Viking Ship going in early the day before and they were going ot port in Budapest but not us. What a disappointment

The thing that caught me off guard was the automatic 18% gratuity on all drinks (alcoholic and regular) and any food items ordered outside of the free stuff. This happened on a carnival cruise out of Long Beach this summer.

Thanks Thia. Tipping is so confusing. Maybe add a percentage breakdown of how most people tip. This should help, We Always give our room steward twenty in cash when we meet him or her. And at that time I request a thin pillow if not there. And Ice at night in the bucket. I can live without more food in the room and we never request this. It is a very sad and disappointing thing to know that Mykonos, once the island selected by authors, painters, sculptors and people aiming to experience the natural beauty of this island that was a rather poor stronghold for pirates for centuries has now become a place where prostitution, drugs, alcoholism, rudeness and complete disrespect of almost any lawful behavior rules. Hotels, restaurants, beach bars and cafeterias charge exorbitant prices (usually without issuing any receipt), they employ young Greeks or illegal immigrants at monthly wages below (sometimes way below) the minimum wage, without any social security compensations and having them work 12-14 hour shifts 7 days per week treating them like slaves,, while beach bars and hotels occupy beaches charging ridiculously high prices for an umbrella and two chaise longues, forbidding people who are not willing to use them and pay for them from swimming in the beach (by Greek law all beaches are public and freely accessible to everybody). Much of the tourist economy of the island is in the hands of the Russian mafia and its oligarchs much of the supply of food, equipment and fuel a part of the building business is ruled by the Albanian mafia. Corruption runs high, as you can open any sort of shop almost anywhere if you have "the right connections" and you can build whatever you wish or can afford without feeling restricted by any building permits, Greek laws on the use of land or any public space demarcation. Local Mykonians, once happy and proud of their island, are questioning whether they are going to have the means to keep their properties on the island, are more and more threatened by the shady people that make Mykonos their summer residence and by the myriads of people landing on their island in the summer, as tourists seeing Mykonos as the paradise for heavy drugs, easy free and paid sex, wild partying and a chance to engage in any sort of extreme, unhinged nightlife "entertainment" of all sorts. Mykonos was recently characterized as the "Colombia of the Mediterranean Sea", if that adds a layer of description to the fast, sad and possibly irreversible disintegration of this very beautiful island. What a shameful waste!

Hi Thia! I like to prepay gratuities but I hope the cruise lines give those gratuities to their staff and do not keep it for themselves.

When they make them mandatory its no longer a tip the prepay part is not a tip as far as I’m concerned but part of the cruise price and then tip the face to face servers that make our vacation better get some extra
