I hadn't seen Dan in 20 years. We met up in West Liberty, IA. At that time, he had his beautiful daughter Sophie, but was divorced from his wife. He hadn't been diagnosed with cancer yet. He asked me to talk to Sophie about her eating habits. I remember feeling very defensive because I had many years of trouble with eating issues. The long and short of it is: I told him, in no uncertain terms, the best part of life, was his daughter. After seeing this video: I am so proud that I got to see the grown-up Dan Dwyer. He was a great friend and a gentle soul. He was athletic and determined: We had that in common. RIP, dear friend. Stay athletic and cherish every day, dear daughter of Dan.

Im 16 and just yesterday I was at gym class and see this kid did a bet with the coach that is he planked for 3 minutes he would get 5 dollars and he won..so I convinced the same coach to do the same bet with me thinking I wouldn't be able to do it because I rarely workout my abs and I said ill try and we made the deal and at 2 50 I was about to give up but there were some people who were encouraging me to hold it so I did and I won 5 dollars thinking wow I rarely workout my abs and I won.. I was so proud of hard work.. but after that I didnt even wanna get off the floor at all because I was in so much pain, tired, and sweating..

Dan was a great photog, I was an intern back in the early 90's while he was at KMGH. He always took the time to teach me the tricks of the trade and offered me valuable advice as to what I needed to learn and how to become a photojournalist. He will be missed. I am sorry for the family's loss and my thoughts are with them.
