Jimmy, your take on why PPA had to take a bridge loan is weak. “If not for the inflated contracts, they wouldn’t need a bridge loan”. That may be true but it was the poor business decision of management that resulted in the need for a bridge loan. Poor business decision - no one forced PPA to offer inflated contracts. What you’re saying is like saying Blockbuster would still be in business if they went to streaming and bought Netflix when they could have. Blockbuster didn’t and that poor decision led to their demise. You can say this for so many businesses. It isn’t a valid argument. Poor decisions have consequences.

I’m looking to open my own facility in michigan, about 5-6k sq footage with 4 courts. My plan was to charge $40 an hour via rental apps and over the counter/ call ins for open play. Would this alone be sustainable? Even a 50% utilization rate would be profitable. First time starting a business though so my goal is low startup costs and hoping it gains some ground.

IMO SOMETHING must be done to combat the paddle escalation. It's good for the manufactures, not for the game. Equipment like in golf, drive the game. People think the paddle or equipment will make the difference in their game. For pros yes, but for the 99% of us it's NOT the paddle. People are lying to themselves. Only a lot practice and work will make up for lack of skill. The type of ball can mitigate the pros game now, it's kind of been proven. I like seeing the slower skilled over power based game. Maybe develop and use a ball between the two types. Eventually someone is going to get hurt (eyes, especially). Since paddle sales drive the game I doubt we will see a slower ball.

Finally getting a PICKLR here in San Diego, North County (Vista) June 2025. Hoping to learn the cost soon. Looking forward to see Tyler and Noe. His interview on BUILDING PICKLEBALL was great. Hearing the new Franklin is trash!!!

Having a tourney with X40’s was so interesting. Points in hands battles didnt seem to last much longer but it was noticeably harder to put the ball away especially for players without big put away power. This is really noticeable in the mens doubles final where Tyson just couldnt put the ball away. The bounce was also noticeably less consistent with there being a lot more random bad bounces especially towards the end of games when the ball was more well used. I also noticed that in singles the server actually had a larger advantage than usual which you wouldnt immediately expect with a less powerful ball but I think it was due to the fact that returns were a lot weaker and players couldnt generate as much depth and pace while still moving through the ball. With the X40 also being softer and having a different bounce a lot more singles players were going back to slicing returns as the softer X40 skids more and doesnt bounce as high when sliced compared with the V pro and slice was helping them get in to the net more consistently

Disagree on x-40. I enjoy the long rallies which can lead to crazy points and defensive gets and the game gets more strategic and less just driving everything. They could also move Sundays to best of 3 instead of best of 5 so the matches aren't so long.

I agree with Jimmy on the ppa Australian - it was slow moving and boring - I admit I didn't watch too much but what I did see wasn't up to the usual PPA standard.

X40 leads to more fun rallies and doesn’t go out of round. In my opinion best ball. And yes I am a purest Jimmy 😂

Why is it Tyra and Elise are such great defenders but they are so poor at drop-ins and resets? I see it every time they play.

UPA should import the Aussie refs, at least they're talented enough to overrule line calls. American refs are wusses, can't watch 2 things at once. Maybe send the US refs to Australia for training.

Roos Van Reek and Kaitlynn Hart looked great, I think they were an Australia Duo that could seriously make deep runs if they played in US PPA. They might not medal but they would consistently make Semis or Quarters in my opinion

There is less that goes into making a Pickleball and that is what makes it hard to make a perfect ball. Weather affects plastic greatly and there is only so much you can do with the material. If it was more complicated a talented engineer would find a way around the downsides easily.

I enjoyed the commentators They had audible gasps, and good insights as to how their players can improve based on the strengths of the American players that I have taken for granted and they had different phraseology which I appreciated .

My wife comment on how much she liked the commentators accents. I was mocking and imitating their voices. She loved it, I hated it for the same reason. If you listen to their comments, it was captain obvious, with no technical comments coming out of their mouth. They get a major pass just because their voices have a pleasing accent. lol

I hold my paddle with the finger on the back, like you, from previous Ping Pong experience. Sometimes I don't put it there, and I seldom think about it or even know whether I am or not, unless it does occur to me, and then it gets in my head and messes me up, either way. I try to just do what comes naturally and not think about it.

as for FED or CJ, Collin uses a wide body 16 Fed uses Ben Johns paddle, couldnt it be coming down to size and shape? Are you gonna make 2 paddles that are the same size and shape and put one in Bens hand and the same model in Feds and call it different?
