    This guy is shameful. If you go to the west side think of it as a mirror. You get what you put out. You will find punks at any side of the island. Westside is beautiful.

    I like chime in... Leeward-born haole surfer here (Waipahu; non-Military; 4th generation haole surfer). Makaha and Waianae *are* rough. Literally the wild west of Oahu. BUT, show love get love. I surfed Yokes shorebreak my entire life and if I shut up and surfed, I didn't get beef. Double BUT, I knew better than to bring my mouthy mainland cousins to Yokes. That said, my biggest fear on Oahu was always Townie Mokes. They seemed to a) have the most to prove and b) weren't surfers lidat.

    Went to Shark's Cove beginning of December around 1pm. We were first time snorkelers. Awesome experience and was very easy for us to get started right away. We stayed entirely in the protected part of shark's cove. Water was deep enough to snorkel but shallow enough to stand. Plenty of fish and even saw a sea turtle. We had water shoes but they weren't necessary. Rented the gear across the street for $20 per person

    If you're a tourist but you look local nobody will bother you and you fit in. It's more of a problem if you look like a typical white tourist in an aloha shirt driving a Jeep Wrangler acting lost or having no respect.

    Honestly if you want to respect the locals I would stay away from that zone especially at night definitely but again the locals are amazing but that's their spot that's the Hawaiian spot so I would highly recommend just bypassing it let them have their space

    My home away from home. I love this place! The people are amazing, the surf can be epic, hiking up the mountain for the view is like no other. If you aren’t from there just be respectful and smile. If you have a rental car, leave the windows down and nothing in the car. Don’t be at the beach after dark unless you are with someone who is from there. And if you do get jammed up, be a warrior and handle your business. They aren’t like the mainland, they won’t beat you down and kill you. Win lose or draw, shake hands and it’s over. That’s Makaha.

    The paradise is a paradise. Makaha is the home of the best beaches ever. Homeless is an issue all over the world. So be mindful of ur surroundings. Common sense. Our home of Makaha is a place for tuff hearted and the ones who seeks hidden beauty within the valleys from nanakuli to kaena point.

    We stayed on Makaha beach for a month and never experienced any issues with the locals. People at the grocery stores offered to help me load my groceries, easily interacted with my kids, and were very polite. Two years later, we stayed near Kailua and the second day there we were told that we were not welcomed, not by a native, but by a “transplant “. I hate to hear such a large number of people categorized as unfriendly. We never forget that we are guests and try to behave accordingly.

    • @dougyeefresh87
      @dougyeefresh87 2 місяці тому

      That's so hypocritical that a haole would tell you on Hawaii that you're not welcome. Also I hate that part of Kailua where it's completely gentrified.

    • @sirij8784
      @sirij8784 Місяць тому

      Kailua has the worst transplants on the island. A buddy that visited said it was the place with the less aloha. He wanted me to tell him a place with less whities 😅 that was coming from him..a blonde hair blue eyed surfer guy!

    A long time ago, the royalists invited my family to Oahu, and even then, the local hawaiian kids would call me "Haole" when I went to surf Makaha. The best waves on Oahu are on the west side and the indigenous people do not want exploiters to ruin their beautiful home.

    Grew up there in the 70''s, I'm from Honokai Hale, a mile east of Kahe Point. This was a surf spot that you could stay at all day! The warm water that came out from the power plant made it like a " Bathtub." We surfed with black tip sharks all around us, in fact, I remember 1 pregnant large black tip one summer, she was huge. The sharks never bothered us, and let me tell you, their were alot. The best lefts and rights ever. I was so fortunate to have grown up in that era. Now, I look at it, and it is so different. Thanks for your story 🤙
