Dr. Bessel van der Kolk offers tips on how to help children and adults cope with Covid-19
So glad I found her
Thank you! (from the UK). Working with 12 to 14 year olds with behaviour difficulties
I would be so grateful to meet her please 🙏
There's a Dutch psychologist who specializes in the lasting effects of trauma. One thing he talks about that I just love is the idea that every child has the birthright to be adored! He's absolutely right, and as a mom, I hope every person who sees this realized that that applies to you! You had the right from birth to be absolutely adored, and I'm so sorry if you were denied that right! You *deserved* to be adored, and you still do! 💗
Alas, not everyone is capable of adoration. I've never adored anybody.
@@robynhope219 And I know that, in this world, that can be an incredibly difficult and judged reality to live. My hope for you is understanding in the people around you, and grace and compassion from yourself. It still doesn't change the fact that if we choose to bring a child into the world, they deserve no less than to feel adored. As a parent, I believe that it would be my responsibility in that situation to find a way to show adoration to my children, even if I couldn't feel it internally. Would it be easy? Absolutely not! It would be incredibly hard and would require support from friends, family, and community! But it would be something I would have to figure out, because there are already too many broken people in this world.
@@katestark2519 one cannot fake feelings, nor would I try. I was brought up by child hating parents. They couldn't adore me if their life depended on it...not even sure we need to adore our children.
This was 2 years ago, can you kindly ask Peter for another interview <3
I know this is two years later and it may not be seen by either of you, but talking about ADHD and trauma - please be conscious of the fact that while some kids may have hyperarousal that looks like ADHD, children and adults with ADHD have a higher instance of trauma due to living in a world not really friendly for neurodiversity. So it isn't necessarily and either/or but could be a YES AND situation.
You helped me so much.
Traumas retain in people with very high arrogance. Entering(submersion 3 times with a certain prayer and crossing yourself) in water springs of orthodox saints (which are near or in monasteries)give very much power and sureness to people with depression, panic attacks, schizofrenia and other soul illnesses, there are some springs of mother of God Maria that heal soul illnesses.
Deseo y decreto que todas las personas que lean este mensaje sean felices y prósperas en todo sentido! ❤️
Thank you for shining light on such an important topic.. I’m curious to know on the rate of positive outcome of desensitization therapy styles such as EMDR in kiddos (and age groups) in preventing the effects of this life-altering event, however they may (or if) present themselves in the future..
I can relate to this so much! I want to learn more about how I can help others with this.

Excellent interview and exercise - just the dog is triggering me.
Dr. Burke!!!! I am really big fan of you!!
I am a kid with a lot of aces and I love these videos😀😀
Thank you!
Peter, I am really curious to know your thoughts about mandating mask wearing for children in schools. I am connecting what we know about the significance of facial expression and vocalizations to establish connectivity with others and soothe our nervous system as mammals. Do you think that face masks will disable this and create additional distress and anxiety because we can not interpret the cues of others? Simultaneously, I believe we are also creating duress in our own bodies by restricting our ability to breathe and oxygenate our vital organs, placing people in a prolonged state of fight or flight while trying to carry out their functions at school, work, etc. What do you recommend for policy makers as they consider mandating masks as a return to school plan?
Hi Kimberly. Fascinating question. The best way to reach Dr. Levine is through his website: traumahealing.org/.
The trauma healing community has remained silent on this question - I have asked and asked.
Such a great video. Thank you so much.
