Just a place for me to upload my favourite videos, anything from classical music all the way through to historical documentaries.
My Heart's in the Highlands
My Heart's in the Highlands is one of the most beautiful pieces ever written by Robert Burns and this version sung so superbly by Kenneth McKellar touches my heart n soul as it reminds me of my youth up in the Highlands of Scotland.

Elgar - Fantasy of a Composer on a Bicycle (2002)
Переглядів 27 тис.11 років тому
Back in 2002, Melvin Bragg asked Ken Russell to do a little something to mark the 25th season of The South Bank Show. Mr Russell decided to remake the drama documentary that he had first done in 1962 for the BBC's Monitor program. All copyright is retained by the original owners, and no infringement is intended; have uploaded this due to it's rarity.

Falstaff: Symphonic Study in C minor Op. 68 by Sir Edward Elgar Played by the Hallé Orchestra and conducted by Sir John Barbirolli I couldn't find a complete version of this on here so I created this, hope it sounds OK as it's my first attempt.
The Innocents

A clip from one of my all time favourite movies, The Innocents (1961) in which Miss Giddens (Deborah Kerr) gets the fright of her life when she sees the ghost of Peter Quint (Peter Wyngarde) in the window.
❤💙🧡
The Fairies give far far better account of themselves than the pseudo “giants” who can’t even keep in step with one another [hic😃!] Beautiful Music! Beautiful production! Thanks a million! Amen and all Praise to Ken Russel..RIP
I love that tune at about 7:30. It was used as a theme song for some Brit radio program.
My heart's in the Highlands, my heart is not here; My heart's in the Highlands a-chasing the deer; A-chasing the wild-deer, and following the roe, My heart's in the Highlands wherever I go. Farewell to the mountains high covered with snow; Farewell to the straths and green valleys below; Farewell to the forests and wild-hanging woods; Farewell to the torrents and loud-pouring floods. My heart's in the Highlands, my heart is not here; My heart's in the Highlands a-chasing the deer; A-chasing the wild-deer, and following the roe, My heart's in the Highlands wherever I go. Farewell to the Highlands, farewell to the North, The birth-place of Valour, the country of Worth; Wherever I wander, wherever I rove, The hills of the Highlands for ever I love. My heart's in the Highlands, my heart is not here; My heart's in the Highlands a-chasing the deer; A-chasing the wild-deer, and following the roe, My heart's in the Highlands wherever I go.
Who is the performer?
Kenneth McKellar, a very fine Scottish tenor.
@@HielanYorkie Indeed. Thanks for the heads up!
The Scottish bard, himself, Kenneth McKellar!!!
Haven't seen this film for 20 years it's brilliant love it. R.I.P Edward Elgar and Ken Russell. Wish they had good film docs on now instead of unwatchable rubbish.
God's creation is so beautiful! I am in awe!
I have just found this whilst looking for tv clips of my very dearly departed friend Richard Swerrun. He played Jaegar. Miss you so much wished I could have said goodbye..A pleasure to watch this Nimrod Always reduces me to tears..Proud to be from Worcester.
Lived in glasgow
Ken Russell rides again? Bores again, more like!
What a wonderful song
Blimey..get through that without sobbing, if you can! Marvellous.
Like so many unknown composers they sold the copyrights of their music for pennies the publisher made a fortune Dvorak was the same with his Slavonic dances. However for the 2nd set of Slavonic dances he demanded more money and got it.Always worth watching a Ken Russell film .
You must be thinking of a different composer. Elgar, the English composer, made a great deal of money through conducting engagements, the sales of his work, and his recordings. Adjusted for inflation, he died leaving an estate worth millions.
Thanks !
Je suis très ému de la parenté de la scène du pique nique avec celle de "Valentino". Ken Russell avait un don incroyable plus insuffler de la vie dans ses scènes , "Thé boy Friend" est grandiose pour ça , la vie vous y saute au visage !!
Superb documentary! It stirs the heart and soothes the senses. Elgar, you should be alive today; England (and the world) hath need of thee.
Super! Love🌹
It's poignant to think that there was a time when ITV made programmes like this, before they decided to throw in the cultural towel and join Sky, etc, etc, for a race to the bottom with reality TV crap. This was further hit home to me last week while watching a programme about Benjamin Britten on BBC4; wile commenting on his 1971 opera Owen Wingrave, they quoted from newspaper reviews of the day and I was stunned to learn that in 1971 both the Daily Mail and The Sun (!) had an opera critic...
Great while it lasted!
Ken Russell does stir mixed reactions, the one thing you can say is he was never bland. I think he genuinely did love the music of the composers he depicted on film. Admittedly, sometimes it's laid on a bit thick and not too subtly, but personally I forgive him this and thank him for the legacy. If you like this film, check out the Delius "Song of Summer" and the Vaughan Williams South Bank Show episode he did; they'll be around somewhere
Bless him, Ken Russell was too sentimental and he was never subtle with his imagery. A miss opportunity to present a descent documentary on an interesting man and a great composer... Thank you for posting.
This is the tune and tempo that I recognize.
Wonderful performance by an Elgar master.
so moving ..and powerful, beautiful
Really, really good
I'm glad Elgar didn't bestow the Prince Hal theme with 'nobilmente' - just 'con anima' or 'grandioso'. There's a school of thought that Elgar felt Hal was a bit of a cad. 'Glorious John' Barbirolli on good form here in this lovely piece. Nice one!
Glorious John indeed!
stupid.
Kenneth McKellar! How lovely!
that was simply lovely. Elgar... a composer. loved the women. , cycled allot..
But I think his love for Alice was absolutely unquestionable. But you're right, a lovely documentary. :-)
who´s the art by? I like the fat man smiling
Falstaff with big wine jar and cup by Eduard von Grützner.
Brave You! Thank you.
Thank you for uploading.
What a lot of complete twaddle.
What a fantastic little film. Thanks for posting. RIP Ken Russell.
Xlntly done. Whatever you did is invisible and seamless. Sir John had just the right combination of English and Italian to do the other Sir John (and Sir Ed) perfect justice. Great sound. Much needed, much appreciated. Many many thanks.

Grandiosa!
