This song came a year after Light My Fire. I thought Ed said he would never have them on there again after Jim sang the "higher " line.
They only appeared once on Sullivan, on Sep 17, 1967. The Doors took the stage to perform two of their biggest hits. Morrison sang "People are Strange" (on the band's second studio album "Strange Days", which was released in Sep'67) with a vacant look in his eyes. Immediately following that song the band segued into their number one hit, “Light My Fire.”

Songs are often written and performed live a while before theyre released so im guessing thats what happened here. Though the first two albums were released in the same year tbf so people are strange was released less than a year after light my fire. Idk the exact dates of the show or album release so idk whether or not this happened after people are strange was released, so it could very well be either. But if this happened before the 2nd album released then people are strange wouldve definitely been written by then cause at most this wouldve happened a few months before the album was released.
@@taxevader7777 Makes sense I guess. Morrison did write a bunch of songs at first, too many to put on one album. Moonlight Drive was on of his first and it wasn't released until their third album. I just didn't think People Are Strange was one of them.
Sounds like a tough crowd when Sullivan introduced them. Not surprising since Jim was a rather controversial figure at the time (at all times lol). The people in that audience and others like them weren't ready for this. But their kids did end up loving it!
