    The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked, who can know it? Jeremiah 17:9 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy loving kindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. Psalm 51:1-4

    Can darkness have existed from eternity past? Isn't God alone eternal who says in Isaiah 45:7, "I form the light, and create darkness?" Surely, if God created everything out of nothing ( ex nihilo ), which my finite mind cannot comprehend but I accept by faith, then darkness itself could not have been in existence before he began creation. Sorry, but does this make sense?

      @@treharrisevangelicalchurchThank you brother but the Lord has just directed me to 1 Kings 8:12 and Psalm 18:11 which talk about God dwelling in the darkness which is God's presence darkly intimated before the Son of God's first advent as the Light of the world.With the Lord's aid I will develop this. Thank our brother for this message and thank the saints at Treharris for their prayers. Foot getting better slowly.We pray for you all. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

      This is a good question and pretty philosophical. Clearly, we can’t probe into what we don’t know (and what is not revealed). All that Scripture reveals about before the creation is that: Christ shared glory with the Father Christ was slain in the eternal plan Believers were chosen in him From a darkness and light perspective, my understanding would be that darkness is the absence of light and doesn’t need creating ex nihilo. I take the verse Robert is referring to mean that God banishes the light (thereby creating darkness) in the same sense that God divided the light from the darkness in Genesis 1:4. I hope that helps. Every blessing, Tim

      @@robertroberts3703 I wonder if this may be of some encouragement to you Robert. (ua-cam.com/video/hzW25g0CZUI/v-deo.html) It makes mention in a small way of the thick darkness in which God dwells. I used to get a little puzzled by God dwelling both in light and in darkness. It no longer troubles me as I have had to work out the meaning of these elements or conditions that God 'inhabits' or 'dwells in'. All good wishes, in the Lord. Alan

    Question: If the Lord Jesus Christ was in the heart of the earth three days and three nights as he said he would be ( and I believe his words ), how say the Catholics and Protestants that he was buried late on Friday afternoon and rose again very early Sunday morning?

    • @treharrisevangelicalchurch
      @treharrisevangelicalchurch 9 місяців тому

      Thank you for your question @Robertroberts - I have offered a possible explanation here: facebook.com/profile.php?id=100066579477308. Firstly, three days and three nights do not necessarily mean 3 whole days and 3 whole nights. The Jews counted a 'portion of a day' as 'that day' and 'portion of the night' as equivalent to 'that night'. Please consider my answer therefore, and if you have a more satisfactory computation then do feel free message me as I do not wish to clutter the Facebook Group up with possible to solutions to this puzzle. The meaning of the prophecy was hidden at the time it was made, and made clearer after the event, but even now it remains somewhat veiled. This has led some people to come up with some desperate and totally unsatisfactory solutions.

      Thank you for your response.I believe that Dr Tim Wells is a deputation speaker for Creation Ministries International and, l assume, he believes in the literal 24 hour days of creation week eg an evening and a morning, the first day etc ( I also believe this ). The Lord Jesus Christ also said, "Are there not twelve hours in the day?" Which means that there must also be twelve hours in the night. Something l discovered during my own Bible study around this time last year regarding the three days and three nights being three literal 24 hour days was found in 1 Samuel 30 regarding the words of the Egyptian servant who was left for dead in the field by his Amalakite master. Compare verses 12 and 13 of this chapter which, to my mind, leaves no room to doubt that when the Lord Jesus Christ said that he would be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights he meant three literal days of 24 hour periods ie 72 hours in total. Again, I believe the words of the Lord Jesus Christ! Thank you for the link which, although I do not use Facebook, l will endeavour to watch. But I have found, especially over the past year, that the best interpreter of Scripture is Scripture. Iam sure you will agree Pastor.

      @@robertroberts3703 I asked Tim if he also wished to offer you an answer to your question, and he has just replied to me in this way: Firstly, it is good to establish from the Gospel accounts the days on which the events described took place... The trial and crucifixion of Jesus clearly took place on the Friday. This is evident because:             a. The Jewish religious leaders didn't want to defile themselves by entering Pilate's residence and thereby exclude them from observing the sabbath (John 18:28). Religious defilement only lasted 24hrs - i.e. this was on the Friday before the Passover Sabbath (Saturday).             b. The Jewish religious leaders didn't want the bodies to be left hanging on the crosses into the Sabbath (that began at Friday sunset), so requested that their legs might be broken to hasten their deaths (John 19:31) The resurrection of Jesus clearly took place on the Sunday. This is evident because:             a. It is described as "when the Sabbath was past" (Mark 16:1) and "In the end of the Sabbath" (Matthew 28:1). Technically this was at sundown on the Saturday, but...             b. It is also described as "as it began to dawn towards the first day of the week" (Matthew 28:1) and "very early in the morning" (Mark 16:2) - i.e. the next day - Sunday.             c. It is clearly stated to be the first day of the week by all of the Gospel writers (Matthew 28:1, Mark 16:2, Luke 24:1), John 20:1). Thus, the three days and three nights equates to Friday to Sunday, and this fits with the Jewish way of counting, i.e. that any part of a "day and night" was counted as a whole "day and night". Note: "Day and night" does not mean that day should be counted separately from night, but is a phrase to mean a 24 hour period (or any part thereof). I trust this is helpful. ... Tim

      Dear Mr Roberts Now I have time to respond more fully to your question. The members of Treharris Evangelical Church used to belong to a denomination known as ‘The Church of Christ’ that, to our shame, believed in baptismal regeneration. Most of the members of Treharris Evangelical Church were converted in 1973, at which point they understood the gross errors that they had been taught. Their conversion brought them into the light of the Gospel and they came to believe the doctrines of grace. Thus, they embraced certain facts. These are that we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, to the glory of God alone, and that the Scriptures are the sole authority upon which our faith stands. This is commonly referred to as ‘reformed’ theology, as I understand it. Furthermore, as we grew in grace, and as a result of our more mature understanding of Scripture, we embraced further facts. First, that unregenerate man is a slave to sin and has no free will. Second, that man is chosen by God for salvation, irrespective of what man is or what he has done. Third, that Christ died only for those whom the Father had chosen, and not for all mankind. Fourthly, that God’s grace is irresistible, and cannot be frustrated by fallen man. Thus, we believe in the effectual call of God. Fifthly, that the converted man cannot be lost. Consequently, our teaching stands opposed to the five points of Arminianism. I assert that it is appropriate therefore to refer to our church as 'reformed', since it falls within the general doctrinal ambit of the great sixteenth century Reformation. Does that answer your question in a way that makes sense to you? Alan White
