My family had a plot at laindon. No running water no electricity but a lot of good memories.

I don't know if this is common knowledge or not...but... It was Dutch engineers who were brought over in the 17th century to build Canveys original sea wall who lived in these houses. Many of them were paid in land on Canvey after they had finished. That's why many of the road names up towards the "Point" end of the island have weird-sounding Dutch names.

Mainstream history is bunk, not REAL history.

Excellent - why was this stuff not imprinted on my brain - I was educated in Walthamstow, EsseX 1954-65. I also was involved professionally in the consequences of the Toxteth Riots in 1981 - Everton Riots 1982 - Poll tax refusal to pay and riots 1990 - I became active on Twitter on the night of the Tottenham riots 2011. The people united will never be defeated but after a riot comes a settlement - so let us avoid the violence and consequences and find way to go straight to the negotiations.

I listened carefully to this beautifully written and illustrated poem by a poetess of renown who also comes from Leigh. At the end my eyes filled with tears hearing of the bravery of the young men who laid their lives so the rest of mankind can have peace. Thanks Shirley! It's great to have a few people like you who stop to think of these wonderful things of life. Well done!
