I've long been captivated by visual effects and the art of imaging. My own experience as a photographer has given me a particular insight into my vocation for the world of visual effects. The creation of a striking image in photography and the challenge of reproducing it in 3D seem to be the driving forces that turned me towards VFX.

Der Hinterhalt

I'm really pleased to present a big project I did in collaboration with Axel Gras and Nicolas Sanchez, two of my classmates during my 3rd and final year at VFX-WORKSHOP. Shortly after the Normandy landings in June 1944, a German tank retreats and is ambushed by American soldiers hiding in a house. In this project, I took on a crucial role as the person responsible for creating the environment, ...

I'm thrilled to present you KENOPSIA, my latest project on which I worked on it for nearly 8 months. This is my first large-scale environment project. The word Kenopsia defines an odd melancholic atmosphere of a place usually bustling but now abandoned and quiet. Ιt is also known as Liminal Spaces. With my KENOPSIA project, I aimed to capture the beauty of various biomes by creating 12 environm...
Abandoned Spinner Plan

Creation of the Spinner in Blade Runner 2049. Antoine Rabarot modeled the vehicle, and I took care of texturing, lighting and integration. This project required a lot of work to find the right references and dimensions, as well as time to fine-tune every detail. Once the 3D environment was created, we filmed with a Black Magic 4k to integrate a friend.
Photoreel Pablo the snail

Hello everyone, here's a small project of my 2nd school year. I depicted a macro view of a snail whose shell is a terrarium. The snail carries its ecosystem, as it must flee its natural habitat.

Congrats dude! Came across this video organically and was really touched by it. Nice work!!!
@@aaronwestwood Wowwwww! Thank you so much Aaron! I'm really honored that you enjoyed my project, which is fully inspired by what you've done.
@@matthieumangez I can tell!! Was amazed by how close you got the compositions. I know working with *random* noise in heightmaps that wouldn't of been easy. So so cool.
@@aaronwestwood Thanks a lot Aaron, and yes it's clear that it's quite random but by doing a lot of tests I've been able to get satisfactory results all the same.
looking good, congratulations on learning GAEA ; )
@3d-generalist Many thanks friend
Big boi

Looks Great
thanks you! : )
The terrain reminds me of the trailer of ES6 which should launch in another 50 years. Beautifully done Matthieu
Haha yes I just saw and indeed it is resembling, thank you very much friend! : )
And after those 50 years, you'll be waiting about a year just to get into the game because of all the loading screens you'll have to deal with.
@@PraetorianAU 😂😅🥲
Stunning, great job!
Thanks you ✨️
Really lovely work! keep it up
Thanks a lot!
hey i dont know all programm icons, what r the two next to photoshop and the FP next to houdini called? 1:55 ...
the two icons next to photoshops are Vray and Arnold, two render engines, and the one next to houdini is a scattering plug in for 3ds max called Forest Pack
@@JonathanTRG thx, why using several render engines?
@@bUildYT because each studios has its pipeline and render engine so it's good practice to learn multiple render engines, + in a demoreel, some shots were rendered with this render engine, others with this other render engine and so on and so forth
what programs r u using?
Great question, I mainly use 3ds max with V-Ray.
@@matthieumangez damd, thx...
You should put it in description. Great work btw!
@@zizzonedibattipaglia6247 You're right.
Excelente trabajo, muy bien hecho.
¡Muchas gracias!
Congratulations. The environment works are wonderful.
Thank you!
depth through comp looks amazing, loved the bokah shape.👍
Thanks a lot man, that's a pleasure to read : )
Great Lighting
thanks you!
Well done! Stunning work!
Thanks a lot man it's a pleasure!

Looks very good, but shouldn’t the houses be a bit smaller? Apart from that the render is very realistic
The second cloud shot is really good! How long does it take you to render a frame?
Well, it took my computer about 7/8 minutes to compute a frame, I calculated with the CPU.
sooo good man
Thank you! 🙏
Is this Unreal Engine?
Nope, it's all done with 3ds max and V-Ray : )
@@matthieumangez wow, the amount of GB's on the landscape files has to be insane!
@@GranzDesign Well, actually, yes and no. I've created a lot of proxies, so that makes my scene a lot lighter. But yes, it's still heavy.
Nice work !
Thanks!
What do you work In
I just finished my studies!
@@matthieumangez sorry, I mean which program do you work in. I would like to hire you for my studio. What is a good contact
It looks great! I would push the village way back and make the houses smaller as it gives a rather tiny sense of scale. The camera move like this crane shot would work if the village would be further back and that the landscape can breath and become vast. Take the shot from Lord of the Rings where gandalf arrives at the hill overlooking the valley to minas tirith. Same camera move, but way bigger scale. I think if the character was more in the foreground, maybe over the shoulder shot would create more depth :) Just my opinion
Oke Chad! Go ahead then ;)
@@user-ef7dp1vz4jfeedback should be important to everyone, but thanks user 🤓☝️
one day…
in a wide valley...
Super cool
thanks man!
Is it unreal engine
No it was made with 3ds max and V-ray
keep uploading mate, your work really sparks inspiration to make godly scenes

Thank you my brother, it was a pleasure!
omg what a chicken ! this is so good !
Delicious chicken
That's really nice, which softwares did you use for this? Great work
Thanks man that makes me happy, I used 3ds max with V-ray and the track on 3Dequalizer that I transferred to Nuke.
@@matthieumangez Impressive, keep it up! cant wait to see more, i subbed :D
@@createdbyoliver thanks man!
good but house scale is to much bro
Ah, you think so? Personally, I find it rather coherent.
It's massive! Nice work bro
Thanks man, this new plan is coming strong!
Wow very nice

yoooo tha's ccrazazyzyyyy!!!!
Ahah that's nice, thanks man!
ADMN
great sense of scale and depth, really nice!
Is it possible to get exr renders of this shot to do comp ?
Actually I don't know man
@@matthieumangez meaning, if you are able to provide him EXRs render sequence , so that he can try an comp it.
@@DannyshRosli yes excatly, i am also a comp artist, and the render mattiew mgz has done is amazing so just wanted to try my hands on it for the comp.
Was hoping this was done in UE, but great work!!!
Eheh no totally on 3ds max maybe I'll get around to it one day, thanks in any case!
this reminds me of the islands from how to train your dragon, this could be easily a hollywood blockbuster shot and no one would even notice a rando at youtube made it, BEAUTIFUL my friend.
Ahah yes indeed it could eventually have that effect, but I'm still a bit far from it xD I'm improving every day, new plan coming very soon, thanks man!
wow,spec?
3ds max with v-ray
cool

Blender?
No, it was done with 3ds max and V-ray
