I wasn't quite aware of how Porcus' AI worked when I recorded this clear. Apparently, he prioritizes stealing higher ranked equipment, provided it's not equipped. This explains why he stole the sleep staff with his second opportunity, as everything else in Saias' inventory was lower ranked. hi! nice vid :) is there any reliability to where the units start in the second phase? that's a nightmare for me usually
Yes, the order of units in the second phase is completely deterministic. The order is based on the final location of your units in the first phase, except Alear, who's position cannot be altered. The order in the second phase is ordered from the top from left to right. Using this video as an example, position 1, 2, and 3 would be Mauvier, Kagetsu, and Lindon respectively. The units the furthest north in the first phase become the lowest in the order. If multiple units are in the same row, the further east the unit is, the lower they will be in the order.

I don't think so, I just remembered this way was what some runs had done, and that's what I did. I saw what other runs did afterwards and felt pretty silly.

Sure thing, your runs are great! I probably won't anytime soon, figuring out the unit configurations is brutal lol. Could you get below 156 turns? I intentionally spent an extra turn on Chapters 3 & 4, and I believe 8 turns is possible in Chapter 18. Is there somewhere else as well?
Yeah, planning out deployment positions is annoying. There are a few chapters where you could save turns with only a slight decrease to reliability: c3 (6 turns, skip the shield ring), c4 (11 turns, run past the enemies at the end), c7 (6 turns, leave a couple units behind), c18 (8 turns, recruit xavier and seize on the same turn), c21x (4 turns, rewarp+warp for one inner cell and rescue staff for the other. Requires prisoner deployment positions to work out). I haven't looked into 0% growths as thoroughly but they're reliable enough to aim for in an expected turncount oriented SSS playthrough (except c4 which is a matter of preference). A few of these strategies are recorded but they're scattered among different playlists and it would be nice to see a single playthrough that puts it all together. If you totally abandon reliability you could save additional turns: c3 (6 turns), c4 (9 turns), c4x (6 turns), c6 (6 turns), c7 (6 turns), c8 (2 turns), c10 (2 turns), c11 (3 turns), c13 (1 turn in elite mode due to salem exp gain), c18 (5 turns), c21x (4 turns?). Most of these strategies are in my SSS LTC playthrough but 0% growths changes some things. @Aeddy35
@@pillowbunny7893 Would you have to kill Gustaf with his Master Lance still equipped in that 8-turn scenario in Chapter 18? How do you kill the boss? Illios Bolting + Asbel Grafcalibur crit? So 153 turns while still somewhat valuing reliability and 138 turns if you ignore it? What would you use the fifth Hammerne use on for these scenarios?
Yes you would hit gustav with his master lance equipped. Though I suppose you could make him switch if you rushed to him while ignoring xavier. Either way, a single thoron crit should be enough (the rescue staff user can boost ilios' magic on the final turn). But this chapter might be too sketchy in 0% growths. 153 turns sounds right. I think the 0% SSS LTC would be 139 turns, you need to 3-turn 21x to get to 138 and I haven't looked into doing that without relying on BLD growths. I believe you should have enough warp uses in the somewhat reliable route even if you use one repair on sleep and obtain three warp staves from 21x. If you need more you could skimp on sleep and you could get four warp staves from 21x if you warp a bld ring thief from a top cell to the priest room, then rescue him the following turn (rather than warping a random unit to capture a priest and rescuing him before facing danger, as in one of my sample videos). iirc the unreliable LTC route uses one repair on rescue for use in 21x. @@Aeddy35

What is it about Elrean that makes people want to promote him immediately in most runs? Is it just his higher base magic over wendell? I can't imagine Elrean ever makes it to B rank staves for Again, while Wendell definitely can, and Etzel's better than both. Are you running all 3 at some point?
I apologize if this sounds snarky, I'm genuinely curious
I didn't really focus on how he compares to Wendell or Etzel. I felt he was good to promote, because I had enough Master Seals to promote Belf and Leiden in Chapter 13. Elrean is pretty decent, his stats are pretty similar to Etzel's. Merric might have actually been a better unit to promote than Elrean in this run, despite his slightly worse stats, due to his higher crit avoid and hit.

It's certainly possible lol, I've done it casually. Paragon mode just makes certain promotions much easier to hit. Asbel, Tina, and Safy in particular would struggle with timely promotions otherwise. I haven't looked to deep into a standard experience run, but it seems to lose turns without using more unreliable strategies. Pillow Bunny's SSS 163 Turn run, for instance, clears chapter 10 three turns slower because Safy promotes later, although you technically could just rig Hammerne misses.
Safy can promote by chapter 10 on normal mode without requiring anything too crazy, e.g. in my incomplete recruitment playthrough. My SSS run lost turns because it was rather sloppy and because I prioritized safety over turncount in a couple chapters. @@Aeddy35

Yeah I occasionally do crit or dodge, but the strategies can be done without.
