    We are thinking of participating in 2025 in the Performance Cruiser 1 Spin class. The most fun sounds like anchoring out and staying on the boat. It sounds like quite a few boats do that. Is there a good place to tie up dinghies during the race day? If any former participants are up to chatting about the experience a bit, my email is in my channel.

    It occurred to me on the electrical fire... Vehicles have had fusible links on the battery for decades now but there for sure is not one on my boat. That would have stopped that fire by removing the juice as soon as the draw exceeded the rating of the fuse. On a boat with a battery bank we are not looking for a whole bunch of power at once. We want a little power for a long time so a low rated fusible link is perfect especially if we are using a separate battery for starting the engine. This would be especially important since the fusebox is a few feet at least from the battery bank. There are also higher rated fusible links that would work for a starter.

    • @RechargeableLithium
      @RechargeableLithium 10 місяців тому

      @CanadianTexaninLiguria It's about reducing sail area. Tuck in = reef the sail. Shaking out a reef means to increase sail area - going from 2nd to 1st, or 1st reef to full sail.

    May I say, another good tool or equipment for your lifevest you didn't mentioned, is the "LifeSafer". If someone is unconscious in the water, for the crew on bord it's very difficult to catch the lift-teather with the boat hook. The "LifeSafer" is a thin, lightweight, floating, very strong dyneema-loop, 3m (10feet) length. This loop is attached to the lift-teather of the lifevest and is a 3 m extension. When the vest inflates, the LifeSafer floats on the water and can be caught very easily with the boat hook. The LifeSafer can be directly attached to the halyard to lift the person out of the water. I recommend this piece of equipment for every lifevest, it will make the recovery much easier. Greetings from Germany ah

    This is terrific. You went out and did all this. (UA-cam videos where someone just repeats what they learned in their textbook is not helpful. What I've found is that a lot of How To's are based on doing something for the first time. I've learned a great deal more watching a skilled person doing something even if they aren't the least bit articulate.) I've made a written a step by step from your video to help me remember the steps. I strongly advise doing this (using your images) and request that the Storm Trysail Club does this. (I won't post my how to because I've only done this a couple of times using a life jacket as the MOB, so I claim no expertise - except as a learner and a teacher.)

    I found your presentation helpful, so much, so much so, it will change my boat's safety setup. I do sail solo and double-handed, as well as fully crewed at times. I own for the last 34 years an ex-BOC class II masthead single-handed 15-meter cutter, I have rebuilt once every ten or so years x 3 times. Thank you for your fine effort, sharing your experience and knowledge. SV. Skoiern IV,

    Hello US Sailors You also need to include a variation of the Mini class in the US This is the "Karting" for solo sailors, this is the kindergarten for all the following classes of solo sailors Mini class, => Figaro=> class 40=> Imoca ( vendee Globe) Fair wind to everyone The British dominated the sea yes, but not always not everywhere , You should know that, without the French fleet and the Compte de Grasse, you might still be a British colony :-)

      When the wind strength becomes sufficient for a fourth reef, you would be better off using a Trysail.. Why would you risk blowing out your mainsail??

      One thing to consider is the boom. In conditions requiring a trysail, the boom may be going into the water. Since the trisail doesn't have to be sheeted to the boom, the boom can be kept centered.

    Keeping in mind that this is not seamanship, it is racemanship. Seamanship is about being able to look at the weather in real time and make a good judgment (as opposed to "knowing") what is coming at you.
