      Thanks! No issues with pole pieces, aside from the aesthetics of not lining up under the strings, there is no audible effect (the magnetic field of pickup poles is sensitive to vertical adjustment far more than lateral).

    Since I see a magnetic pickup, I have to assume that the strings are steel, not plastic or gut. And the obvious scale length is greater than 21” so I would call this a tenor guitar with Chicago tuning, not a baritone ukulele. It’s really nice, though.

      @@ghust3427 Thanks! The Kala ones are traditional acoustic strings with a microphone or piezo pickup -- the ones I do use magnetic pickups (and steel strings) - which is why I don't think my design would work for a U-bass... the string gauge would need to be massive, or the strings would have to be so loosely tension that they'd be floppy and unplayable... (I think). But i can look into it, maybe there is a way to make it work...

    Very nice indeed. You're getting a gnarly sound, and your tuning is very interesting. It probably serves you well. I own four Eastwood Astrojets, and two have P90 pickups as well. Two of them are tuned to "Chicago" tuning (E B G D) and the other two are tuned to "Arkansas" tuning. (G D A E ) I'm still learning as I go along, but I'm having lots of fun with them. Good video. Keep up the good work, and keep rocking out. Tenor guitars are gonna make a comeback, I just KNOW it! 😁

      Hi - I build these with the strings a bit farther apart than on a guitar, so perhaps it would be easier. The cost varies based on the quality of pickups you want to use (the one in this video has quite expensive pickups!). In general, the total cost ends up between $800-1200.

    That's interesting that you are using a pickup for 6 strings. I had to look really hard for electric 4 string pickups for my tenor electric ukulele I'm building. This is encouraging because there are better quality 6 string humbuckers, and the quality of the 4 string ones aren't great. I tried to use a base guitar pickup for mine, but it didn't sound right either. I always thought that 4 strings = 4 string pickup and so on.

    • @sodoelectrics272
      @sodoelectrics272 6 місяців тому

      Regular guitar pickups are the way to go -- you know what you are getting! The strings will not center over the pole pieces, but that it won't affect it sonically, just visually (and you can always use lipsticks, or rails, or firebird style pickups to make pole piece moot if you want). Plus, I kind of like the look of the full sized pickup on a small body -- kind of a big eyed puppy vibe.

    • @ryansaper
      @ryansaper 6 місяців тому

      I haven't even taken the pickups out of the packaging yet, so I have no idea if they're any good. But as long as it sounds good that's all I need. I'm building a tenor electric uke with a solid epoxy body. But my neck has to be custom. I already own one of the Flight Centurion electric tenor so I'm basing my measurements on that. I'm nervous about the neck. The last time I did a custom one I glued it, but I might opt for a bolt on option so I can put a shim in to fix any angle changes on the action @@sodoelectrics272
