Kamigamo shrine, or Kamigamo jinja in Japanese, is one of the oldest Shinto shrines in Kyoto (Kita Ward). A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994, it was built in 678.
On May 15th, Aoi festival is held at this shrine. A grand procession of participants dressed in traditional attire of the Heian period (794-1185) travel from Kyoto Imperial Palace to Kamigamo shrine. It is one of the three largest and most popular festivals in Kyoto alongside the Gion Festival (Gion Matsuri)in July and the Festival of the Ages (Jidai Matsuri).

Kamo Yamaguchi shrine (00:39) is located in the precincts of Kamigamo shrine, in the Shokei-en garden. Futaba-aoi, a species of wild ginger, is a symbol of Kamigamo Shrine and is used for its ceremonies. The plant is also cultivated in the shrine's garden.
