Bowie pollard surfboard review
Приєднався 27 тра 2017
Professional longboard surfer,
I have been surfing since I was 5 years old,
Been riding all different surfboards from 1960s old mals and 70s single fins right up to modern performance boards,
I live and breathe surfing,
My channels is about helping others understand different surfboards!
In my opinion no surfboard doesn’t work it’s just finding the right board for your style of surfing,
Also what waves you are riding!
My channels focus is sunshine coast surfers.

For summer waves which one sub zero or zero fusion in Hyfi 3.0?
Hey mate how do you rate the construction durability compared to firewire helium? I'm blown away by how long the Helium lasts, Ive had three. but JS shapes look excellent.
It’s different to the firewire, I would say the js have more flex in there new tech! To be honest it’s the best one js has done hands down! Has a lot more spring out of its turns, I’m very impressed with how it’s held up! FireWires decks hold up abit better due to the deck skin, I hope that helps
hey bowie whats your height and weight if you dont mind me asking?
Hey no worries at all! I’m 175 and 85kg, I hope that helps.
Damn can’t decide between this and the white tiger, have you the pyzel white tiger?
@@hoseaesp6309 hi mate, I haven’t personally surfed a white tiger, However for our waves on the Sunshine Coast the chado has been more suited then what I have been told the white tiger is.
How are firewire durability since they are made in Thailand?
Hi was keen on the sboss and my first firewire. But concerned about them being made in Thailand how is there durability?
@@Chris-o3t Hi to be honest I feel firewire is one of the strongest techs on the market, I’m very impressed with there durability, And don’t be worried by the fact they are made in Thailand, Thanks
Hi Bowie nice review. How does it compare to the JS Xero?
@@Henry46444 to be honest I feel like this board is way better all rounder then the js xero, More forgiving in the small conditions, But also having the quad options gives you so much get up and go when it’s bigger!
@@bowiepollardsurfboardrevie6757 Cheers Bowie! I loved the Xero so I reckon I'll have to give the Xero Fusion a try
Bowie, I feel I am in between sizes. Torn between 5'8 34L and 5'10L. I am 6'0 amd 89KG. Been riding smaller boards like GSkate at 5'10 34.5L. I want the board to paddle as least good as that. Wish they had a 5'9 in the range.
@@terenceingram7786 hey mate I would honestly say go the 5’8 34L if you are happy with the 34.5L in your g skate, Should feel the same with that volume, The only thing you will lose is a little bit of paddle speed been abit shorter, But the in the pocket response will be way better, If you go up to the 5’10 would just make it a wave catching machine and you would just need to push it harder on your back foot seeing you are going up abit in volume, Both epic options, Thanks
Made in china
Really can't go wrong they usually have HUGE discounts on these !
I've been thinking about getting a CI mid for years now. Just when i decided to press the button I spotted the boss up. I mainly longboard but am chasing something to use when it's 5 to 6 ft that has crazy paddle. What are your thoughts? I'm not a high performance surfer
@@DownwindFrother hi mate, The CI mid is a great down the line open face board, Will work well on the points, However if you want something that will work in the beaches as well as the points definitely go the boss up, If you want that longboard drive and speed, Quad fin setup in the boss up is the go! And that will also make the board ultra smooth, You can’t go wrong with this board I personally feel for what you are after. Cheers
@@bowiepollardsurfboardrevie6757 thanks so much mate

@@theBamboozleRoom coming in hot for you
How does this compare to the Seaside? Im looking for my first shorter board and debating this or the Seaside
@@eamonshields2754 sea side is more flow and down the line, The cardo will give you more in the pocket style surfing
@@bowiepollardsurfboardrevie6757 Thanks!
Any other fins on futures you recommend?
@@Eidref102 the js fins or the EN in futures
I run it with the Britt Merrick twins. Cross between AM twins and keel. Goes sick!
@@orionchibnall3078 I'm using it with EN fins and the BMT is with my Big Baron. Perhaps I should try the bmt with the baron flyer
Rob’s such a legend, so stoked to meet him while he was on the coast, thanks again for the opportunity Bowie 🤙🏽
You’ll need to tell me your secret Bowie, your hair seems to be growing back nicely
What a trip! Come to NZ, Rob. Plenty of fans here in Taranaki🤘
Any reccomendations on dims for someone 5'7 ? Cheers🙌🏽
Hey mate it also depends on your weight as well?
How much do you weigh?
@@10SNE1 hi mate I weigh 85kg
@@bowiepollardsurfboardrevie6757 Thanks, I’m 80kg. 5’6” feels a bit large but I’m not sure if i want to drop down to the 5’4”
@@10SNE1 yer I would say 5’4 with your weight, As I’m riding the 5’6 and it floats no problems at all but still easy to ride, But depends on what volume you are normally riding
I really like the shape! I’m 6.2”/195lb What size would you recommend?
@@bangsnap2651 going off what you are saying I would recommend the 5’9 as I was riding the 5’8 at 32.8L and I weigh 85kgs But you could easily go the 5’10 if you are wanting more paddle, What volume are you riding at the moment? Cheers
How big are you? I’m 6’1” and 190-195lbs and torn between the 5’6” and 5’8”. Normal shortboards are 6’0”-6’3” 32-34 liters.
@@trestlesrocks hi mate I’m 5’11 and 85kg I was loving the 5’6 as I normally ride around 32L I would recommend with your height and weight they 5’8, But that also depends on how you want it to surf, Also the 5’8 will be a lot easy paddle then the 5’6, Cheers
Do you no the Machado Cado 5'6 is 2 9/16 thick and the 5'8 is 2 1/2 thick? So the 5'8 is actually thinner then the 5'6, I felt both sizes under arm and the 5'8 feels a little thinner then the 5'6 cado which I like. Has anyone noticed this?
What fins is that in futures?
@@Eidref102 if you are going quads the pivots are pretty much the same, If you got two plus one go the new black stix twins, Thanks
@@bowiepollardsurfboardrevie6757 which quad you recommend? I love me some quad especially when it's a bit bigger
Good review mate! I`m 5`8 , 68 kilos , what size Machado Cado you reckon?
@@johnnyhadji7841 thanks mate I would be saying the 5’2 going of weight and size, However it also depends on your ability and what volume you are already riding, Thanks
@bowiepollardsurfboardrevie6757 Do you no the Machado Cado 5'6 is 2 9/16 thick and the 5'8 is 2 1/2 thick? So the 5'8 is actually thinner then the 5'6, I felt both sizes under arm and the 5'8 feels a little thinner then the 5'6 cado which I like. Has anyone noticed this?
Which has a deeper v, cado or sweet potato? Thanks 🤙🏼
@@surfskateaddict5253 I would definitely say the cado is way deeper!
Are you going to review the JS Flame fish in the new HYFI 3.0 construction? Interested to see the comparison between it and the Machadocado. Thanks for the reviews.
@@robertbrow6289 hey Robert, I haven’t got one to try at this stage! But if I do I will definitely be putting up a review! I’m going to say that this board is faster than the flame fish on softer waves, However that new HYFI tech is insane so could be a game changer for that board..
@@bowiepollardsurfboardrevie6757 legend thanks for the reply Bowie!
Hey Bowie, have you tried the JS Flame fish? Or the older Flaming Pony? Interested to know how they compare to the Machadocado?
@@kenkohncke7929 I would be saying more like the flaming pony, With a deeper double concave and thinner in the tail!
@@bowiepollardsurfboardrevie6757 I know you have surfed the flaming pony, have you also tried the flame fish? If so which do you prefer out of the 3? and why? Also is there really any difference between the flame fish and flaming pony, or is it just the same board re-branded?
@@kenkohncke7929 so flaming pony wider outline and closer to the cado, The flame fish probably closer the the old js nitro, But the new HYFI 3.0 could be game changing in that new tech
@@bowiepollardsurfboardrevie6757 Saw the Cado at Alex BB yesterday when I was ordering my 6'8" Boss-Up. It looks sick, looks to have more tail lift than my old Flaming Pony and my Seaside. Definitely more than my old Chum Lee and Twice Baked. I like that think it should turn well even when the waves have a bit of push.
Does it turn yellow?😢😮😅
How would you compare it with the JS Baron Fyler?
@@NetherlandsBusiness that’s a tough one! I do still like the Baron flyer, However I would say this board is more forgiving for most surfers I feel, The Baron flyer will suit more of a shortboard surfer!
insert: Slaps Roof of Car, meme
NICE!!! Can I get one over here in the US?
@@jodiah5 I’m not to sure on that one I feel you contact js and they maybe able to send one over!
Hi Bowie. Great review. How does it compare to a JS Xero?
@@Henry46444 I would say it’s a better small wave board compared to it! Wider tail allowing more in the pocket surfing on small waves
@@bowiepollardsurfboardrevie6757 Thanks for getting back to me. Do you find it's loose enough in small waves with the single concave? I've only really ridden single to double concave in my small wave boards
@@Henry46444 Hi Henry, Yes definitely find it gets plenty of release in small waves, But still holds well on the bottom turn. For the sunshine coats I really feel it’s great small wave shortboard,
Can you feel the difference between HYFI 3.0 and 2.0?
Yes! Way better flex patten, I found the HYFI to be abit stiff at times, The new HYFI feels more alive under your feet,
We need a thruster review
Debating on one of these in 6'8 or a 6'8 Seaside and Beyond in Thunderbolt. Thoughts and comaprison between the two? Which one has better effortless speed and glide? I can surf short boards fairly well but whe im on a middy im looking for smooth arcs and speed mainly. cheers!
Hi mate, If you are wanting more of a flowing a cruise styler board with open face turns go the sea side & beyond, If you are wanting more performance in the pocket and to ride steeper waves go the boss up! Both great boards I personally feel sea side & beyond is a great point break board, Thanks
Radical
Nice barrel. so definite thumbs up on the board? you seem to be tossing it around like a short board. pretty sick.
What size board and how tall are you. Nice surfing 🏄♀️
Thanks mate, That’s a 6’8 and I’m 85kgs,
@@bowiepollardsurfboardrevie6757 and how tall? Cheers
I’m 176 mate
Does it have similar rocker to el baron? Seems a bit narrower too than el baron Want something that can handle a hollow wave. Thanks
Hey mate, No a little less rocker then the el Baron, However less nose width in it! They are both great models for hollow waves, I have got some epic barrels on this board and the el Baron
1M82 70KG, bought it today in 5.5, it's a beast in harsh conditions !!!! Having the most fun from Tahiti !!!
How does it compare to the JS El Barron?
I would say it’s abit more all round, The big double concave running through the board really helps in small waves, I really like the el Baron good in big waves, I feel for the Sunshine Coast the boss up is one of the best all round mids for our waves!
Have you tried the chilli mid strength and how does it compare
Thanks for the review. I know you say it really shines as a quad, but does it still surf well as a thruster? You said it's more "in the pocket surfing" with three fins. I'm more of a thruster guy so if I get it just want to know it will still performs well with that way. Thank you.
@@jblo76 sorry I missed this comment mate! Yes as a thruster definitely go more of a fin with rake if you are still wanting drive, But more of a up right fin will definitely give your more freedom in the pocket, Quads just seem to give it so much more speed that’s all,
Bowie sold me a boss up and it could be the best board I've ever ridden.
That’s epic!! I’m glad you are loving it!
Hi. Which thruster set do you recommend me for the SBoss? I am 5´9" about 76 Kg. SBOSS: 5´9", vol.30.1L. Thanks.
@@filipevicente774 I would say go the M velox or a set of Am black stix Cheers
Why in the world have i been seeing sooooooo many people posting this same video????????
You must have special YT coz in the rest of the worlds YT there is literally 4 videos about the Boss 😂
Better than “Mid6”, wow now im interested
For all round surfing yes!! Mid 6 I found likes bigger waves
fondled one at the local store, looks and feels amazing. wish there would be a 6'6" or 6"8" version i bet it would work great as a high performance Mid length :D
Will it hold in tubi indo waves? Thx
Would also love to know how does it compare to the great white twin
@@dismol9707 more of a all round shortboard feel I would say to the great white
Amazing review man, i love that you ACTUALLY ride your boards before reviewing them. How would you compare it to the great white twin, specially regarding ease of ride and forgiveness ?
would love to know that too
@@KC-ro9ro sorry I missed this comment, Thanks mate appreciate the kind words, I would say it’s abit more forgiving then the great white twin, I personally found that board to be quite performances based for a twin, However one of my favorites in good waves and barrels the great white
Does the ibolic yellow over time?
We haven’t had any issues with them going yellow!
Hey Bowie! Have you tried anything like the Britt Merrick Keel or Album Keel in the Flyer? How do you think they would compare to the Power Twins? Cheers!
Hi no I haven’t tried those, I would say the Britt to be the pick I feel for that shape board, Would definitely give you more drive and speed down the line, Not as much in the pocket as the power twins tho
