I was chatting to an owner recently and he advised the best to get is an MSS with a higher than standard compression piston. Said it was much more pleasant to ride. That's pretty much the Scrambles engine.

Many a rider in fifties & sixties forgot to retard the ign timing and nearly got to moon before Buzz Aldrin after bike kicked back some even got broken legs I believe !

Jumping up and down on the centre stand will push it through the frame tube that it uses as a stop. Better to start off the stand, as the stand is only strong enough for the static weight of the bike. My B33 had holes punched right through the tube by the stand that took quite a bit of repairing. Beautiful bike, a credit to you.

That is the sort of bike, if it kicks back during kick starting you have to climb back on board again!

Been there done that. I learned to start it with my left leg standing next to it. It had a 1 1/2 inch GP carb and road racing cams. I had a hematoma in my left calf for years after trading it for an A10 Spitfire. Much nicer to ride and start. I was 16 years old then, 77 now. I loved the sound of the large short megaphone on deceleration.

You have to tickle the Amal carbs till they drip, hence the rag under the carb.

Get it over top dead centre and it will fire first time every time.

Spin the engine over. Dont push it. Then once its kicked back and wrecks your knee, learn to jump on the starter like the folk of old.

I'm gonna tell one on myself for everybody's safety. I too wore my boot laces looped out. One fine day I tried to lift my right shifter foot to place it on the ground while coasting to stop... only to find one of the loops had lassoed my shift lever & wouldn't allow the foot to rest on the ground. From then on all loops were tucked into the boot uppers.~DU69160
