Building is delivered, Tunnels are up and things are taking off!
Another busy week. I was able to do an initial 3 inch till to try and eliminate the heavy crop residue left from last years corn crop. Our building got delivered and I got a little done on it. Both caterpillar tunnels are up in the field with the help of family and friends and we were able to pot up our tomatoes and the peppers and celery are starting to take off.

Planting, Supplies, Compost and Field Prep...busy week at the farm!
Переглядів 1003 роки тому
This week we started some extra tomatoes, placed a bulk order for larger plant pots, got a truck load of compost and prepped the entire field with the Super A and the BCS. We also picked up 2 of our caterpillar tunnels which we can get up once the field prep is done. Lots accomplished with the snap of nice weather we've been blessed with.

    Thank you very much for the video. It was very informative and helpful. I followed your setup exactly the same way. I used a 2 door commerical cooler. It create a lot of humidity and there is a lot of water driping. Any suggestions on how to control that would be much appreciated.

    Thank you... Was the experiment successful... This method of heating... What should we do if we need to cool down... We have high temperatures... Should I reverse the direction of the fan and dispense with the water boiler by putting water in an earthenware dish for cooling

    Good day my friend, I am following you from Turkey and you have turned an old refrigerator into a germination cabinet, this job is excellent and wonderful, I made an old refrigerator germination cabinet by taking you as an example, but the question I want to ask you is the cabinet temperature when you leave the seeds of eggplant and peppers in the cabinet to germinate. And how many degrees should the humidity be so that there is a healthy germination, because eggplant and pepper seeds are difficult to germinate, and I have trouble with the germination of seeds, I would be grateful if you could help me how many degrees the cabin temperature and humidity should be in germinating eggplant and pepper. Thank you and I wish you well in your work.

      Hello Bekir, thank you for your comment and for following along. We try to keep the chamber between 78⁰F and 80⁰F and 100% humidity (or close) for pretty much all crops. We water the trays heavy when we seed and then put them in the germination chamber and leave them. They sprout anywhere from 3 to 7 days, depending on the vegetable, just make sure not to let them get too leggy. Hope this helps and good luck!

    • @jayjoefarms3865
      @jayjoefarms3865 Рік тому

      I don't have a video of that. Find it much faster than heat mats. Anywhere from 3-7 days for most crops. Last year was 3 days in the chamber and 7-9days on the heat mat.

    For future reference, you can start tomatoes and peppers in 128 trays and pot them up into 4" pots much easier than from the 50 cell trays that also take up more than twice the room in your germination chamber. Also all of your squashes, melons and cucumbers don't like to be potted up...they don't like there roots disturbed. I plant those in containers that go from seed then into the ground. I like the 2.5 inch pots from Bootstrap Farmer for them, 32 to a tray and they slip out very easily when transplanting. All the Best!

    • @jayjoefarms3865
      @jayjoefarms3865 2 роки тому

      We have learned a great deal! Definitely learned I didn't have the time to do videos like I thought I would lol. We have also expanded from 1 to 5 acres and sales have more than doubled. We also added some canned goods and preserves to our product line this past year and it has done quite well. We are still doing everything together as a family and the time together is worth more than $$$ for sure.

      @jayjoefarms3865 2 роки тому

      The season went really well. Stopped posting once things got too busy lol. Was a lot of work the first year and was just our family doing all the work. We ended up finishing the year around 40% better than expected. This year we have secured 5 acres for production and we also secured a contract with a local hot sauce company to grow all of their peppers this coming season. Will be busy again but we will bring on some hired help this year. Thanks for watching and thanks for the feedback. Hopefully we will be able to post an update and a more videos throughout this coming season.

    Do you feel that you need an air inlet hole? Being sealed up so well how can the exhaust fan cool it? It would make a vacuum in no time. Great setup.

    • @shaunszabo8493
      @shaunszabo8493 3 роки тому

      It was a concern of mine and something that I was watching closely. So far it has been working great and it hasn't seemed to be a problem at all as of yet. I'm assuming with it being such a small low power exhaust fan that it can't create enough of a negative pressure for it to be a problem. Should it become a concern I will just drill a small hole in the other side to vent.

  • @daronspicher
    @daronspicher 3 роки тому

    Did you drill any inflow air holes so when the exhaust fan kicks on air can come in from the outside?

      I didn't. It was a concern and something I was watching. However it did not seem to be a problem, I'm assuming with it being such a low power vent it didn't create enough negative pressure to be a problem.
