Hello, thank you for demonstrating the techniques, they are very helpful. I was wondering if you plan on making a video on painting turkey feathers to imitate eagle feathers. I see various types of painted imitation eagle feathers and was hoping to learn the different techniques. Thank you

Thank you for making this video! You answered my question in a very clear and concise fashion. I found a nice feather that I wanted to use as a wind indicator, but it is far too bent. Now I think it will work. Nice to build something far better than can be manufactured with plastic. Again, thank you!

Hi, I do not belong to an indigenous culture of any sort and would like advice on how to respectfully use feathers for a pirate costume. I never want to appropriate a culture especially with a costume so anything on the use and manipulation of feathers is what I'm looking for. I'm using macaw feathers and a tricorn hat.

Turkey feathers are also natural, so this straightening technique will work for any feather, no doubt.

I saw that you can also use steam to fix damaged feathers in case you don't want to cut the feather. I'd likely do it before flattening

I have European heritage and I love to bead. David Dean was one of my instructors and he said that as a non native I should never say that I did peyote because that belongs to items beaded for the Native American (peyote) Church. So I do gourd stitch items and represent them as such when people ask about them. I am somewhat surprised by the vehemence of some of the statements because unless Native American beaders are only using quills and other natural materials the are using seed beads which were a European product introduced after contact. Of course non Native beaders should not represent their work as Native but Native beaders should be proud that their work is being appreciated so much that others want to learn how to use the techniques. I have also taken a class on the raised beadwork done in the Niagra area, again from a Native instructor. I also do kumihimo (Japanese) beading. Please, as beaders let's appreciate and have respect for each other's cultures and skills. cultures. There is enough division in the world

No it is common practice since way back, to trim and pretty up a feather. Nothing wrong with it or anyting evil. So long as it is done with a good heart and we will smudge the feather and give tobacco

wow, all the ignorance on this video response!! You all make me sick!!! never mind my ancestors rolling in their grave shaking their heads im sitting here weeping for our culture right now and the absolute ignorance coming from all of you!!! Wait for it, let the attacks begin because my photo says im white right? WRONG my dad is full status mohawk, he was raised in a time where he was forced from his home and his family and it took him 50 years to reconnect to our ppl and get his rights back that were ripped away from him, he watched his mother be raped by white man and his home be burned to the ground!!! My mother is half cree, irish and scottish, but I look white as a ghost and the sad part of this reality is I probably practice more of my culture then most of u ignorant individuals commenting on this thread!! If you want to get technical with your racist biggot comments, back when we still lived comfortably off the land, ANYONE was welcomed into our tribes and considered Indian as long as they respected our traditions and were willing to learn our spiritual beliefs!!!! our women married white men who willingly adapted our traditions, most even continued to live in our home lands and hunt among our warriors side by side AS EQUALS!!! How dare all of you tarnish our heritage with your racist crap!!! this man is probably far more aboriginal in his spirit then any of you are in person!!! Being aboriginal/Native/Indian has nothing to do with if our skin is brown, white, yellow, red, black, or even friggen neon pink!! its about our spirits and the blood that courses through our veins, its about our acknowledgement and willingness to accept all things for what they are and recognize the beauty and usefulness in our daily lives, its a LIFESTYLE not a bloody color!!! its our beliefs and rituals, its about our willingness to look up to our creator and thank our ancestors for the knowledge and lessons we have learned and will continue to pass down to our younger generations!!! It is not about definition based on color, it is not about hate and racism, you expect everyone to accept your rights and to acknowledge our ancestors struggles yet the examples you set is that we as a people are NOT to be accepted because how can we demand respect and acceptance when we spout off such foolishness from our lips and hold such hateful behaviors and feelings in our hearts!!! You want the stigma to end then it needs to end first within our own ppl!!!! no one is going to take us seriously is we present others with the same attitude and dispositions that our ancestors faced so many years ago!!!

Gamtos paminklai Mūsų gamta ir visata - Nedaloma, Kaip jūra ir lietaus lašai, Kurie į ją pasineria, Ištirpsta... Gyvenimas - keliai, Vingiuojantys per dangų, Pro debesis - į aukštį... Lengvi, kaip plunksna, Platūs, Kaip gulbės sparnai, O krenta ir prisiglaudžia Prie žemės, Lyg akmenys, Sunkūs sunkūs sunkūs... Ona Baliukienė
