This is a great and fairly easy to build model. Some standout features are the inner frame plastic quality and beautiful modelling of several parts like the calfs and the beck of the head unit. Some unfortunate things are the prevalent obvious gate marks and the lack of shield transformation. Dunno why, but Mikey having gigantic missles and a double-barreled mini gun feels very in character for him.
Agreed. Great design!
Nice setup, what are those runner holders called and where can I find them? How was the build? Anything you'd recommend watching out for, mine just arrived the other day and I'm curious if you've got any advice.
@@wildartist83 thanks! The runner boxes are runner in dock I bought on hlj and individual vertical stand clips are from gunprimer. Reg the build experience and notes - check my review of this kit on the channel.i go into quite some detail there.
@skhobbies I'll check into those, thanks for that! Gotcha gotcha, I'll check out the review after this.
Amazing work! Just received my Exia and I've also ordered the Kosmos LED unit. Can you tell me from where you got the water style decals or are they a part of the kit? This is my very first PG build.
Thanks! I believe the kit comes with stickers, pretty much all modern Bandai kits (except for premium Bandai) come with stickers and those don’t really look good. I got these decals off of Aliexpress. I usually try to get g rework or delpi decals for my kits but when I can’t find any in my country I buy decals on Aliexpress.
@@skhobbies This is great, thank you! I just ordered mine off of Delpi. I would love if you do a video on applying water decals.
@ thank you for the suggestion. I will look into maybe making a series of how-to videos.
Hello, can i ask where can i get the kosmos universe app for android? It seems that link has expired.
hello, i am not sure tbh. it seems they still havent published it for android unfortunately. i have it on my iphone. also, i was able to find it for desktop, apparently, sj.qq.com/appdetail/com.Tianlai.light
The Chinese are very good at plagiarizing. This is an insult to Japanese content.
Thank you for sharing your opinion
Looks great ,mine is getting a paint job.
@@johnconstantine635 thanks! Bet it will be fire 🔥 !
Yeah, good luck finding Exia with LEDs or a kosmos set.
It depends on the country but exia has been generally one of the more available kits as of late. Kosmos sets are quite a bit more scarce. But overall, I’d always recommend caution against FOMO. this hobby drives people to buy stuff now or miss out later and it’s not always the case, but often, unfortunately.
Im building it now. Best kit great price point, where do i get those runner legs?
It is a great kit indeed! In era has been doing pretty good things so far. I’m about to start the lizard. The runner holder (horizontal) like a box - runner in dock from Japan. The little individual runner clips - from gunprimer. They make a base set and extensions. They’re quite nifty for smaller to medium sized runners.
btw, so sorry for the crazy bad audio. i only realized my audio recording settings were set way too low after the second (second, Carl!) take... will get it dialed in next time!
It was too terrible. Great review, i sorta want one. Ps. Your review is great, most ppl only talk about good points, me as a builder who buys my own kits wants/needs to hear about the bad connections and tight spots. Thanks buddy!
@ glad you liked it. I know it’s a bit lengthy but it was actually a short version of the notes I took on the kit. Thank you for the kind words.
thank you, it feel so good to watch all processed
Instead of a small hammer, you could get a small rubber mallet:) so you don’t damage your plastic.
Yes! Good call. That’s what I meant. Hobby Mio makes some. I have it on the way :)
Awesome!!
Thanks!!
The amount of time and work you put in to these videos is amazing, but you channel is still so underrated! Keep up the good work bro
Thank you for the kind words :)
Awesome!
Hey! So I’ve built the torso so far but when I plug everything in nothing works, and only the GN drive turns on when I plug it into the base, what do you thinks happening?
Heyo. That’s odd. There are 2 power plugs at the circuit board from the control box. Are you sure you have both plugged in? Also, there’s one on/off button for the drive and another one for the main led set (top left of the remote).
@@skhobbies yeah! I plugged both cords in and the remote isn’t turning the body on, only the GN drive.
@@DragoLogo interesting. I’ll check my own kit later today and will see if I can find anything. For sanity’s sake - double check all soldering points. This kit has a lot of articulation - I, for example, broke a wire when building mine and had to resolder it.
Ok, thanks. Update:I’ve only finished the upper torso so far so I don’t think the limbs are part of it, I made sure no wires were snapped and inspected everything carefully, and the main box is working correctly, so I don’t know what’s going on. Now I think it might just be the remote.
If you got an iPhone, you can use the link in my Video description to download the app and test out. You don’t need remote with that. I’ll be sure let you know once have a chance to check my exia out to see if there are any tricky connections for the torso.
Outstanding video! I was doubtful of buying this EVA, but now, after your video, I'm fully convinced. Thank you bro
thank you very much for the kind words! i am glad you liked the video ;)
What do you do with the wires around the wrist? Im building the PG Phenex with a Kosmos set and Im lost on this part
for the beam rifle (right hand) i was able to hide the wires in forearm (it is not fully snapped in place but you cant really see it, which is good), and the little circuit/connection board i hid inside the arm armor, as the beam rifle has a little flap that covers the arm. for the VN arm (left), i did the same for the forearm wires but there's not easy way to hide the circuit/connection board so i actually have it attached to the outer palm with a little bit of blue tac. if you look really closely - youll be able to see it, but it doesnt stick out.
Can you comparing him with in era aurora & thunderbolt ?
hey, sure. thunderbolt is 1/100 so a bit smaller, and quite a bit simpler, than the defender. though both have complete inner frame that you put together. aurora, on the other hand, has a pre-built metal inner frame and you only build the outer armor layer. thunderbolt is a decent kit and i enjoyed building it - you can see my detailed thoughts in my review for that kit, but its color scheme. out of the box is rather not very usual. aurora is also a great kit in its own right. the gold metal inner frame is cool but there were some fit issues. and the pre-painted blue parts were very high quality plastic. nevertheless, sky defender is extremely hyped for a good reason. it is an absolutely stunning kit. it easily rivals anything the bandai ever done, including their MGEX's and the PGU, and raises the bar for the 3p mecha kits and mecha model kits in general. to me, these 3 do not compete. they are in completely different leagues. even Thunderbolt and Aurora dont even compete with each other as they are vastly different build experiences and packages overall. One focuses on the inner frame construction and more of an OG building experience, while the other delivers a stunning bling with shiny inner frame and pre-painted armor parts (blue and gold). hope this answers your question.
@@skhobbies thankyou
I have leonardo
And Leonardo it is fun
I have the same toy
cool, he is great!
Did you paint it?
Nope. This kit came with a fair number of runners pre-painted out of the box (deep blue and gold) as well the metal inner frame that was painted gold.
If I have already built the Exia (like mine), is disassembling it the only way to put these led?
yes, these kosmos leds (just like the original bandai ones) require complete disassembly of the kit to install them as the kit has lots of internal channels throughout the body to route the wires.
@@skhobbies time to get to work then,,hahaha!!thanks for the quick response..appreciate it
always! Bandai did well with exia, it is actually fine to work with to disassemble and cable routes are spacious.
중국프라기술이 아무리 좋아졌어도 디자인이 아쉽다 대놓고 일본거 카피했네
If it’s a copy, then the design is ok? Or do you not like the original version? In any case, to each their own.
what is that yellow pen that you use?nd why is that thing using a pen stand? 😅
lol. It’s a hobby knife from olfa. I use 2. One with a regular hobby knife blade and another with a needle attachment instead. The little stands come with the knives and make it super easy to store and access them on your work desk :)
Only person to transform it properly in a video without either breaking it or putting it together incorrectly. The Mech station stand looks awful the plastic just looks so cheap & nasty. Hard Pass after watching this & a couple of other peoples videos & I was all in for it before but No chance I'm getting it now, I will just order the Mecha Heat Leo instead & start with him. Cool Vid my dude.😄
thank you! im glad my video helped you make an informed decision about this product. i was too very disappointed by the quality of this release from heatboys. their leo and mikey mechas are absolute fire and great value, while this - i am keeping it in the van form tucked away :))
Building mine at the moment great kit
It is! What do you think about the manual?
I was so close to pulling the trigger on this. Kinda regretting it now. The game is amazing. Would love the Weta one , just where is it going to go!?
i know what you mean, i have the same regret with the collector's edition of elden ring - the statue they got there is just bananas. w/r to the weta statue - i saw that one a few times - absolute masterpiece but, as you said, it is waaaaay too big. if they made a scaled down version - id consider most definitely. for now, im happy with this knock-off (compared to Weta lol) version of Titus.
I hhave this kit and im currently building it and i swear to god my a24 and a4 had the hole piece that suppose to pop into the waist filled. Im not lying im not joking i had to drill the dam thing and i drilled it too big to now im gluing it to the waist like i swear this kit hates me
oh man, sorry to hear that! unfortunately, 3rd party kits can be like that sometimes - not always consistent quality control. Even the like of In Era+. i hope the rest of the build goes well for you as the final result is definitely spectacular.
Ok so can the Kosmos LED be used on a regular Exia that is not the LED? Or is it specifically for the Exia with led from factory?
Another great vid! What decals did you use and what did you use to solder? Hoping it doesn't happen to me but will probably need one at some point since I'm getting led's for this and vientiane apocalypse, maybe even a mechanicore kit if I'm feeling it. Also is it easy to fix ripped wires?
Thanks! Just a regular hakko iron and solder wire. The LEDs were fine out of the box, it was my carelessness that led to me ripping one wire off. Whether it is easy or not - I can’t say as it depends on your comfort level with the soldering iron and the kind of damage you’re trying to repair. You can see more soldering on my MG narrative build Timelapse.
@@skhobbies Thanks checked the video out and what was that orange tool you used with the solder iron in the mg narrative build? Is it a similar tool to what you used in this one? Also damn the solder iron is expensive, hopefully I can buy a decent one without needing to spend too much
the little tube? thats the soldering wire. it melts easily and bonds your wires together. i didnt have to use it on PG Exia as it had a wire detached from pin (which already has solder on it, so i just warmed that up and re-attached the wire), i think this hakko one i got was like 50 canadian, so not too bad.
@@skhobbies Ahh those silver bits are the solder. So if I were to accidentally break a wire where there isn't any solder I'll need that stuff and damn you got for a nice price. Also just two more things are whats that black looking pen when you solder here and do you wear a mask or anything for the fumes?
yeah, you will need solder to repair a wire or connect 2 separate wires. when you solder, you dont melt the wires themselves you melt the solder which is a softer materials that binds the wires you want to connect. black pen? i think thats the plastic spudger. just a prying tool i use to disassemble or manipulate parts. its a prying kit from ifixit. very cheap and handy. and yes, i always have my ventilation running full blast, a window open, and wearing 3m full facepiece respirator with appropriate vapor filters. i do that when i use thinner or soldering or other activities that generate acrid smell or vapors. id strongly recommend doing that as lung damage is not something you can recover from.
Finally got my sky defender but I'll wait for the led's to release before building it. Also how did you deal with applying decals before putting the armor on? Want to try matte coat them too and did you just use gray panel liner for the white parts and black panel liner for the coloured armor parts?
Congrats! The box is massive, innit ?) yup, reg grey on white. Black on darker plastic. If I top coat I only do it on parts disassembled, as a whole kit. It takes more time and require care when assembling but it’s worth it.
@@skhobbies Yeah its a lot bigger in person that I struggled to find space for it 😂 Definitely want to build some of my backlog so I can keep it somewhere. Looked at the decal guide and its pretty well done. Did you just have to recognise each piece for each decal before applying? Also need to get that thing that holds your parts to apply decals on seems like a good investment.
yes, the manual for this kit is exceptional. i truly hope bandai and other brands pick up from it and do the same. when i do decals - i cross the numbers off the page with a pen, and i use a moisturized box (off of aliexpress - decal moisturizier box, goes for like 5 bucks), or simply a wet palette. and i use 2 dspiae vises: Dspiae AT-TV (bigger) and AT-MV (smaller). other than that - its just a bunch of precision cotton qtips off of amazon, mr mark setter and some thin dspiae tweezers.
Remember me when u get famous
@@babynuget1591 lol thank you for watching!
Amazin figure! I ordered mine trough Amazon. Now that you have tested the figure what do you think about the overall quality of the figure? I've seen some reviews mentioning that some parts may break pretty easy. your figure is still intact? Nice video btw. Love those beauty shots and poses.
it sure is and thank you for the kind words! my opinion so far remains unchanged - it is a fantastic figure. nothing has broken off yet and ive been meddling with it on my shelf changing the poses here and there on the daily. on the contrary - i think the smaller finicky parts of this model are executed rather well and hard to break off unintentionally. but of course it depends on how gentle or rough one is with their figures. i tend to be very, very gentle with my stuff.
I'll never recommend this one to my friends. For a fan of both the TMNT and Transformers franchise, this was my most disappointing buy and the worst. Frankly, I failed to transform this for the fear of breaking the shoulder and knee joints.
@@kirbymarchbarcena it is indeed quite a disappointment especially given how good their mechaheat series has been so far. It took my hours to transform mine into the van mode and as I mentioned in the video I ended up going by touch rather than instructions as those are crap. And even though I didn’t break anything, there a lot of scratch marks and I will definitely never transform it into the mecha mode.
I have no idea about this, I could have bought one.
You probably still can!
Showzstore for 280. I just got my in… wow.
congrats - im sure youll love the figure!
@@skhobbies you definitely still can. I just ordered one from Japan (using eBay) 3 days ago and it already arrived here in the US.
I also just got my figure yesterday and I LOVE it to bits, but I must ask if yours had any sort of LED malfunctions? Mine requires the head to be in a specific angle in order for the LEDS in the eyes to actually light up, and if I try to move it for a pose, the LEDS cut out until I put pack in the specific angle which is just having the neck in the smae position it was in out of box. Not sure if this a malfunction, or if it was intentional hence why I'm asking if you've had a similar experience with your figure. (Also, great review!)
awesome! mine works fine as you move it around. so it might be a loose connection on your unit seems like. the way the head LED is executed is like a part of the ball join to which the head is attached. so you can actually take the head off and see the LED itself at the top of the neck sticking out of the ball joint. so it should not matter if you turn the head as the led is not part of the head (rather the neck) and as far as i can tell the neck has no sideways movement only back and forth and once again - on my unit the led stays on. PS: appreciate your view and comment :))
@@skhobbies ah. It seems that my unit is somewhat faulty, which is a shame but I still love this figure regardless. Thank you for the response.
always! and sorry to hear that. i dont think that leds are user-replaceable in this one so it might only be fixed through replacement maybe. but tbh, at least for me - though they are cool looking unless you plan to wire them with USB power, the batts run out quickly anyway so you cant leave them on for long.... the figure is indeed absolute fire!
Does it come with an instruction manual for install? Or do you just follow the Bandai instruction?
This kosmos set does have a manual included. But it only covers the remote functionality and the apps. Entire installation is same as the original LED kit from Bandai. They published the manual on their website too.
