Miigwetch for sharing this. Very important.
I’d love to start by making skirts for young girls and donate some and get involved in local tribes. I’m in Wisconsin now …Arizona naive. Maybe someday I could do custom or very elaborate skirts for sale at craft shows.
My grandmother wore these. In want to make several skirts for market. Question: I want to do fuller paneled skirts then add them -ribbon. Do you think that would be ok or does the cut need to adhere to traditional method of a 2 panel skirt? May I also make ribbon or trims from my lie stash of fabrics?
just made a skirt using this tutorial, it came out beautifully
Love her!
The final boss of aunties! Miigwetch 💕 making one for my daughter!
So powerful <3
I have chills ✨
I’m not crying you are. 🥹
Originally from Mohawk Valley area upstate NY. & I’m making my first ribbon skirt this week thanks to your videos. When you talked about sharing with young ones our stories and the significance of the skirts and how… it can remind us to honour our survival (Survival skills) it really touched my heart. ♥️ My skirt is all over red rose 🌹 print with a sprinkle of gold dust. Will do gold and black ribbons. This skirt is about self love, acceptance and surviving with strength and grace. Best wishes! ✨ All the way from Australia
This was a good tutorial. The only thing she forgets to include is extra inches around the waist for sewing and room. I add an extra 10-15” for the waist and 4” for the length. My first skirt I ever made, I followed what she suggested (except I knew I needed to add 1 inch extra for hemming) and the skirt was snug, but wearable. (My daughter said she felt like she was walking like Mortisha from The Adam’s Family.
Wow
Best tutorial
So inspiring. Thank you. The women are proud and strong. My great grandmother was Cherokee. My husband a 4th great grandson of Keokuk. I admire and respect our hearitage. I am learning so much and want to know more
What sray did you use I’m so excited to make it and your tutorial looks so easy and quick Thank you.

For someone like myself who doesnt comment on many video's... I've commented on almost every single one I've watched. This woman blows me away. A beautiful soul.
As I go through the videos of the absolutely amazingly smart, beautiful woman give these other women her words(and hoperfully some strength they may need at that moment)my heart breaks and then heals again because of her resilience. When she mentioned her daughter... I just know this woman and all those involved will help so many people creating bright futures!
This woman is so beautiful. I seen an interview with her with zthe fifth estate. Thats how I got here to this video. Hearing her words my heart broke for not only her but so many human beings who are put through similar atrocities, my hope for her is that one day her wound heals enough that she doesnt have to feel the rage that some entitled so called human being put on her for their own evil intentions. It's so inspiring to someone who, in her own words had once been "so broken" stand infront of other "broken" people and give them hope. From one mended/mending woman to another, I wish you all the best in the rest of your journey Tala Tootoosis and I hope you find peace.
I think this is an absolutely brilliant idea to incorporate Etuaptmumk into Canada
Acknowledging that this is Tala Tootoosis sharing these teachings.
Omg!!! Your earrings 😍 😍😍😍
Shit, now I see my mistakes as I watch again. 🧐
Why do I always wait until the last minute?😮 I will NOT be labeled as a shitty secret Santa!!!😅😂 We're exchanging ribbon skirts and beaded earrings 😊 20 talented Native women gift xchange.. I thought it was a great 💡 😊 So, i guess It's on!!!!
My I ask would it be ok for someone thats not Native American to wear a ribbon skirt? The skirts are so pretty, I'd like to make one but I want to be respectful.
I have only a drop or two of Cherokee and I can’t decide whether I qualify to own one. These are colorful and beautiful and clever. My distant ancestors were Trail of Tears people. Maybe I should to honor them.
You are keeping the culture alive by wearing one! My great grandma was Mi’kmaq and I wear mine with pride.
I am beyond grateful for your words. I, too, was moved to tears. Thank you. A thousand thank you's for your words and this video. I am preparing to make my first ribbon skirt for my daughter and myself. I will proudly wear my ribbon skirt for all my ancestors.
What was sprayed onto the cloth b4 the ribbons were placed

Thank you for standing up.... this was really good. I've struggled to wear skirts for the same reason. I'm learning boundaries as well. This is making me feel more safe. If you are reading this... protect the youth. By teaching them to feel comfortable expressing boundaries.
Very Wise Wisdom in Teaching in your belief culture.I need a ribbon skirt myself..🪶🪶

Length is how low you want your skirts (usually below knee).
Hi!!! This is the ultimate Ribbon Skirt tutorial I have just 1 question if you could answer Please What are the measurements of fabric you used? Width & Length. 2 meters can come in a endless variety of W & L I look forward to your answer Thank You... from 🇨🇦 #OjiCree
So many other tutorials I've watched were so complex, but this one is simple and easy! I made my first 2 skirts using Tala's technique, and when someone who sews asked me where I learned it from, they said she was using the old fashioned way. Honestly, I love it when people make things so easy and it was so effortless! I'll be using this for all of my ribbon skirts!
Beautiful. Thank you for sharing your story.

very powerful message thank you
Miigwech for this teaching 😍
Yep. Native women are kind and gracious but we do have to be “ready” 🙅🏾♀️
Did you insert the elastic into the waist before you sew up the sides?? 💁🏽♀️
Thank you so much! I made my daughter her ribbon skirt tonight in 3 hours and I didn’t even know how to sew before today lol It was so easy because of your amazing demonstration!
What were the Width and length of the 2 meters of fabric you used? Thank You
Do you have a video where is it zoomed out so we can see when you take the step forward? Kind of what you are looking for with that step. And are we to rip the fabric like you did?
