    In’95, I had a near-fatal skydiving accident. During the healing process, I met Ken Benner in Billings, MT. He introduced me to this wonderful sport, and I was soon flying my own Six Chuter SR-1. Ken soon bought a 582 Dream Machine. It was awesome. I always loved the freedom of my single-seat. Being a former jumper, I loved the ability to hot dog it a bit. Anyway ken, myself, and many others enjoyed the flyins and numerous activities over the years. I got out in ‘04 when FAA started cracking down on us, and I was driving truck and didn’t have much time to play. I miss it horribly. Anyone see Kenny out there, have him hit me up - it’s been a long time, bro. Johnny would like know what you’re up to, and if you still got your wings on!

    Now that I finally have found access to a private airfield, I can seriously think of getting one after 30 years thinking of it. What is required to getting a 2 seater? I read special certification is required. What is involved? Can I get a PPC and NOT be trained to fly?

    • @fredgrant1061

      A two seat powered parachute requires at least a sport pilot license and is an FAA registered aircraft. The simplest way to fly is to buy a single seat machine that complies to FAR part 103. That means empty weight of not more than 255 lbs. and not more than 5 gallons of fuel. No license required. Go get dual instructions somewhere to be safe and enjoy your flying.

    They are very fun, but stay out to late on a morning flight, & the building thermals & turbulence can become quite unnerving in a hurry, making you feel like your on the end of a Bungie.

    • @fredgrant1061
      @fredgrant1061 2 роки тому

      The ideal flight conditions are from calm to 10 mph wind. Less is better. Winds most places in the Midwest begin to come up around 10am. Evenings as the sun goes down are ideal.

      @@fredgrant1061 For sure! I went out one morning, & thermals built sooner than expected, & by the time I got back to my LZ, my carts nose was doing figure 8's. Not a fun experience! 🤢

      If you go single seat like a trike it's about half the cost as a tandem Rotax powered setup. Those can go up to 30k. Decent trike setup single seater 12 to 14k gets a nice setup. Foot launch with just a backpack seat and no wheels and that's under 10k all day long.

    Common sense says to turn right you would push the left pedal forward, like with a motorbike, bicycle or a skid steer. Its so ingrained in me to do that I'd hafta get the controls changed to work that way.

    One of my first videos I watched,as i rapidly took interest in the sport of PPC flying. Awesome video ! 1 year ago, I took up drone photography. This past spring I met a guy that owned a ppc, and I knew right away, I had to look further into it. luck had it, I was able to take a ride in a 2 seat ppc from a local man in my neighboring area. 3 weeks later I owned a Buckeye dream machine, red barron red/2 seat/582 rotax. Life was on a fast track. i took a few field lessons, and help from 2 local men that have become true friends, You can say they took me under their wing, patiently worked with me with good instruction, and I have now been solo several times and absolutely love it. Started out as a drone hobby 1 year ago, and now flying like a bird. Nothing compares. Hope you have safe flights,keep the videos coming, Thank you,Jim

      @Randall D No, you don't need a license to fly a powered parachute or a registration for the aircraft AS LONG AS the powered parachute meets the guidelines of an Ultralight Vehicle. If you don't know what the definition of an Ultralight Vehicle is, refer to 14 CFR § 103.1(e). For powered parachutes that don't meet the definition of Ultralight, at least a Sport Pilot certificate with a powered parachute rating is needed.
