Nathaniel Mander performs the grand Chaconne composed by his much beloved composer Jaques Duphly. Duphly was the last of the great 18th century harpsichordists whose music is filled with a sense of nostalgia for a previous age amidst a fraught and changing world. Duphly's take on the famous chaconne form is naturally very melodic and joyous with a heartfelt and tender central minor section. The...

J.S Bach - English Suite in F major, Prelude - Nathaniel Mander, harpsichord
Beautiful, rich sound
Clavecins like this one wreaked economic havoc among the rodent community. It used to be that mice could get a good-paying job sitting inside the cover of the keyboard, plucking the strings as commanded by the rather complicated "code" of the pianist. Then some wise guy got the brilliant idea of using wood or metal "picks" to pluck the strings, and very quickly the entire RCM (Rodent Clavecin Movement) fell to pieces. The mice never did get back to being productive citizens and most resorted to petty theft, and it's been that way ever since.
Comedic

Awesome playing, beautiful instruments (and your clothes match it in colour 😅). Keep up yhe good work!
라모. 그 애틋한 아름다움이 좋네요
feelin awfully imperialistic with this one
I love French Baroque clavecin. Beautifully played. And upload more F. Couperin Ordres. They are my fav.
Excellent in every respect - instrument, environment, performance...
What a warm, lovely and elegant environment to play so beautifully 😊
Beautiful
Next step: Mozart/Grieg on two fortepianos
Gorgeous Nathaniel. I love the Ordres. I was just playing through the 25th tonight.
What a wonderful selection, very expressively rendered, like a musical poem. Excellent!
Beautiful
God bless you young man. What a beautiful piece! 🙂
Absolutely beautiful! The piece, the instrument, and the skills!!! Thank you
Lovely performance. I love the nod to the 18th century in your cuffs. Nice touch.
Techinique and sensitivity together. Perfect! ❤
A piece like this proves to me what I have always thought...that J.C. Bach is one of the most underestimated composers of the 18th century. The slow movement is full of feeling....and the finale goes far beyond the "galante". It reminds me more of Scarlatti rather than Johann Sebastian.
Amazing. I feel a nostalgic peace and at the same time I don’t understand why the people around the world can’t appreciate it.
8:21 is the best bit
Very interesting and very well played ! Thanks for sharing.
Ok the temperament really made me confused between major and minor chords....
Wonderful, and thank you!!!
What a great performance of a piece I'd never heard of. The theme is terrific and Mozart utilized it wonderfully. I didn't want it to end!
Thank you! It's such an addictive piece!
Nathaniel Mander, un intérprete exquisito y virtuoso. Gracias, Nathaniel, por compartir esta maravilla.
Thank you for the lovely video as well. Couperin and the harpsichord are perfect mates. While piano renditions can be beautiful too, they lack the sororities that Couperin intended.
Agreed!
This piece really showcases whatbthe harpsichord can do!
This is how I envisioned it being played as I was learning it. People play it too fast.
Your fingers are just moving on the piano like wow
An actual fortepiano!!!😊
is the way to play this totally different with piano?
Yes it really is! The way the mechanism works means that the touch and approach to making music is completely different
This is one of my favorite pieces of all time. I absolutely adore Handel. Wonderful performance.
Mine too!

노래도 좋고 영상도 좋네요
Sensitive joyous playing on a charming instrument. Love the cuffs!
Delighted!
I like that Nathaniel doesn't take the repeats as do so many other interpreters. Makes it feel more like a compact, to-the-point set of variations and takes a more thrilling ride through Sebastian's imagination.
Yes
Bravissimo..❤❤❤
Спасибо! Прекрасно!
Wonderful
I really like the spirited touch of the fortepiano, great piece, original performance
"Lord Bullingdon...have you reviewed satisfaction?"
I think this is how its meant to be heard but all excel
The best part is the rose flower on the jacket 😂 really looks great.
I love roses too!
Masterful performance.
Thank you so very much for your appreciation.
Your music brought me to time travel to an era that I wish I was born in.
Oh tell me about it - I've been trying to get back there for years!
You really know how to play the Fortepiano Wonderful performance and interpretation
I really appreciate this - So glad you've enjoyed all the subtleties of this lovely instrument
Subliminal music exquisitely performed on period instruments is always a treat for the ears.
Delighted you fell this way!
wow!
Beautifully played, you really understand the nuances of the fortepiano. Wonderful choice of tempo, tasteful phrasing and dynamics, crystal clear ornaments, great change of tone and character between different sections. Well done! I don’t usually enjoy Mozart, but this is a recording I will surely come back to!
This is such lovely feedback - Thank you!
Glorious! Thank you.
A pleasure!
Wow wonderful performance! I really enjoyed it!
