TRX250R BUILD PART 13 THE HOME STRETCH TO A FIRST START
Переглядів 7616 годин тому
As the title says we are in the homestretch. Wrapping up the final assembly of parts to complete the bike and put it in a position where the final fluids can be filled or topped off and a first start attempted. The final parts included bleeding the brakes, installing the carburetor and intake boots, and finally the fuel tank.

Video of the installation of the handlebars and controls on the project 250R. This includes, the grips, front master cylinder and lever, clutch lever and cable, thumb throttle housing and cable, and on/off switch. I have to apologize as the audio did not record the best at some of the video parts.
Keihin 38mm PWK Airstryker Carb Re-assembly
Переглядів 7714 днів тому
In this video I reassemble the 38mm Air Stryker carb I picked up for the TRX250R project. These carbs are fairly simple. This one was in good shape, just dirty and had a bent needle. With that I figured a complete strip down, clean, and re-assembly was the way to go. While I'm at it I can set it up with a starting setup on jets for my bike. Once it is running, I will adjust the jets accordingly.
TRX250R Chain and Sprocket Installation
Переглядів 7521 день тому
In this video I go over the installation of the front and rear sprocket and drive chain on our 250R project. This video ended up alot longer than I planned because I also went into how to use a chain breaker and adjust the chain to the length needed for your bike. On the bike I used JT sprockets, 13-39 ratio and a JT X-drive 520 chain.

    Is there a left and right on the spacer? How did you get the sticker to stay pointing outwards?

    • @millstonejeepworx
      @millstonejeepworx 6 днів тому

      @Supra_Mickey There is not a left or right side spacer. The spacers will only fit the top of the strut one way. That way it actually rotates the strut 180 degrees. Those stickers actually faced toward the center of the truck in the OEM position. Rotating the strut 180 is what faced them outward

    Why did you need to change the fluids in a 2019? Did you put that many miles on it? My 2017 now in 2024 is just turning 80k miles, which calls for checking the oil only.

    • @millstonejeepworx
      @millstonejeepworx Місяць тому

      I generally do diff/transfer case fluids every 30-40k miles. If you look online the recommended intervals range from 30-60K miles. At 80k I would be doing the diff/transfer case fluids and would also want to do a transmission fluid/filter change. My choice of interval may be overkill to some but to me, Overkill is Underrated. I personally think that maintenance is cheap especially when you consider these vehicles are 40-50K+

      If I recall right there are 2. 1 is shorter and fatter and sits almost right above or next to the governor shaft. I believe that one is for choke linkage. The other one is very long and thin. It sits on opposite side of throttle plate from the governor and attaches to end of actuator arm that is attached to the governor.

      @millstonejeepworx 2 місяці тому

      @mattdudester9037 You're not wrong. It is a pretty involved install. I would definitely recommend ordering or purchasing a truck with it already installed. That being said, I'm happy I did it. It is nice having the lights there, but it is definitely not the only option for bed lighting. I just wanted OEM.

I assumed it would be easy with a factory style harness to add aftermarket lights. Not so much though. Definitely good info. I'll probably do under bed rail & OE placement with rocker panel.

    I have a 2017 Grand Cherokee Altitude. At about 51k or so miles, I noticed some fluid on the drivers side of the front differential. Any idea what could have caused it and how easy would it be to fix?

    • @millstonejeepworx
      @millstonejeepworx 2 місяці тому

      @KfromtheBAY Is it on the side where the front CV axle comes out to go to the wheel? If so, it could be axle seal on that side. I'm not positive how the axle seals are set up on the front diff. If it is just inside from the axle shaft then replacement should be pretty easy. Remove CV axle, pry out the seal, replace with new one. Some axles the seals are internal making replacement much more difficult.

    • @KfromtheBAY

    Both diffs and the t-case should only be filled to just over an inch below the bottom of fill plug hole. Too much fluid could blow out your seals. Thanks for the suggestion. I have seen this and done this on other vehicles that called for it. This one I did fill to the fill level and so far have not seen any issues. I have experienced times when diff or cases were overfilled and seen them puke fluid out of vents. I've only ever seen them leak through the seals when the vents are clogged or blocked and they build pressure as they warm up with use.

    I have a 2020 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, and the dealer spec for the 3 fluids was the same as yours except for the rear. The rear uses the same(Mopar) API GL5 75-85 but they said to mix in this small bottle of friction additive stuff. Now, in your video it sounded like that afditive was already mixed in and ready to go with that API GL 5 75-85w. Thoughts? Thank you.

      Yes, the fluid I used already has the limited slip additive in it. It is possible they gave you a comparable fluid and had you add the additive as it is likely cheaper. The Mopar part number for what I used is 68083381AA. Make sure the part number of what you were given match. It may look the same and be a different fluid. How many hours on that used piston? Also, what's the piston-to-bore clearance on that used piston? I replace pistons in 250-class 2-strokes at 40-50 hours of run time no matter how they look or measure. They fatigue faster than they wear. I also replace if the clearance is .001" more than when the piston was new. Replacing the pistons regularly is what keeps the bore life in the cylinder. You can usually get about 8 pistons to a bore size if you run good oil at a good ratio with an airbox setup that keeps all particulate out of the air. Running a piston past it's life really hammers out the bore and uses up the liner in the cylinder faster. Pistons and gaskets are cheap, cylinders and sleeves/sleeve jobs are expensive.

    • @millstonejeepworx
      @millstonejeepworx 5 місяців тому

      @BillyWillicker Thank you for the information you wrote. Alot of good info there. The piston and cylinder had about 8 hours of run time on it. The clearances were all within normal tolerances. I don't recall the exact numbers. The piston and cylinder were off a good strong running motor that was moving up to bigger bore cylinder. I have another cylinder and piston that will be coming soon that will sit on the shelf till needed. That one is a just over stock bore currently being set up by Jerry Hall of Hall Precision Racing.

I enjoy the more in-depth engine building that the Suzukis demand to really build up. You can still buy whatever you want for the Honda and bolt it together. With the Suzuki if you want a big bore, the bottom end needs machine work before you can even start on the top end. Jerry has done a lot with them as well and his work is excellent on whatever he does. You'll be happy with it.
