Fix: Rivian door handle groan/noise
A quick demonstration of how I’m resolving the noise my door handles make on my early Gen 2
R1S. I suspect I’m having the variety of small issues that I’ve had such as the noise and the window seal (see my previous video about that) because it’s such an early Gen 2, but if anyone else is having these issues, drop a comment and let me know and hopefully this quick fix helps you out as well.
If you’re buying your own, Rivian, feel free to use my referral code to get $500 to the gear store as well as six months free charging on the Rivian network!! You don’t have to use my code, but definitely make sure you use someone’s- you can even use your own when buying a second Rivian!

Yet another superb service experience from Rivian San Diego! The whole team is so great, we’ve had no issues and every time they exceed our expectations on time frame and quality. San Diego only has one service center currently (new one coming this year is the gossip) but they handle the high volume exceptionally well. Thanks to Seth, my service advisor this time, Josh the tech who rode with me...

Really cool news- the Rivian R1S is officially the highest scoring large SUV on the road according to the list of vehicles tested by IIHS!! Rivian R1S or Full size SUVs? One is losing BIG market share…. Here’s why!
Is this Gen1 or Gen2?
Gen 2
Rivian is a RICH persons car ..Buy a chev Brand New Ev in Seattle for 29000 Know wonder Biden gave them a Billion dollars haaaaa..If u want America to go EV then build and Price them like Chev and Nissan do for Everyone The Chinese are !!!!!!!!!
I understand that you think it’s a rich persons car because it’s expensive. Unfortunately there is not competition that is cheaper- a comparable Chevy Tahoe is as much or more expensive. I have a Nissan Leaf as well, but to compare it to a Rivian would be laughable. There is no $29k vehicle that compares to a Rivian. You can compare a bicycle to a sedan, but there’s no point. They’re different things that have different purposes. I have a Rivian because I have a family of 7 and want lots of cargo space, towing capacity and offroad ability while also powering it from the solar on my house. There is no vehicle available that offers what Rivian offers.
I cannot imagine nor understand the purchase of any vehicle with no CarPlay - especially at $100K?
Definitely not for everyone- looking forward to the update this year that they’ve promised to enable texting. That said, always funny to me that people frequently say it’s a $100k vehicle… that’s the benefit of the dual standard- including taxes and fees it was $82k out the door…. Same price as a similarly equipped Tahoe, which also will not have CarPlay as GM is moving away from it too.
My 2022 Tesla X has had 7 half shafts and both motors were replaced in the past 26 months. It still shakes like a geisha on Sake. Only 32k miles
Holy cow- I’m sorry to hear that! I’ve heard both good and bad about Teslas, which sort of kept us away and why we got a Mach E instead of a Y. I’m still open to Teslas potentially, but not looking to buy currently. Very happy with the Rivian and service so far, hopefully this is it for issues for a while🤞
Excellent commentary, and excellent points in this video. Very relevant information. I wish other channels could emphasize your valid points instead of dwelling on the "high pricing" of the tri-motor and/or the gen 2 looks the same. Every one of them just harp about the $100,000+ price tag. Very few mention the $70,000 base model is loaded with basically the same features minus the range.
Thanks! I definitely feel strongly about it and want as many people to realize how comparable and practical Rivian’s can be. I definitely felt like it was difficult to find videos about dual motors before I bought mine, so hopefully the info is helping people!
Is it hybrid?
Nope, this was a 2.4 turbo, non hybrid.
Hi! Just send your code to my guide and hopefully it will work for me cause my case was an old order😂. Delivery date set on 28th.
Love it, thank you and congrats! Let me know what you’re picking up!
@@True_Dad It is limestone R1S Due Max with Ocean Coast and 20' all terrain package
Excellent colors- bet it’s a beauty! Congrats and enjoy it- welcome to the family!
Rivian is so far ahead of european car manufacturers like Volkswagen. VW literally delayed their upcoming car to 2029 because of "software development". Meanwhile Rivian found the time to let their trucks blink an ring. Love that
I didn’t realize how significant the updates would be, how consistently they’d be released and how much I’d appreciate them! The car has numerous features it didn’t have when we got it and I genuinely look forward to each update as get! It’s so cool! I really do love Rivian at this point
I have been driving and EV now for about 4 years in the north east (VA, MD, PA and NY) often times in rural areas as that is where my family lives. While DCFC are coming online, there are still many places where chargers are long distances from each other, often greater or near the max of a reduced battery range in cold temp (i.e. 130-150 miles) from my normal 250 miles of range. Having something that I can splash gas into, even if it gets me 50 to 100 more will allow for reduced time on trips and allow for extended trips into the Adirondacks where there is no electricity. If waste heat could be used to augment heating for winter, it would reduce the impact of cold on the battery and for heating the cabin. I could see it being a waste for warmer temps unless you have weight or towing needs.
The I3 you mentioned was configured for CA to maximize pure EV range so it was nerfed for the US. A euro spec of the car, you would set when the motor kicked on to charge the battery.
I understand and agree with what you’re saying in theory, what I’m saying is the theory doesn’t translate to reality. With an older EV or reduced battery life in cold weather- that still only applies to vehicles with shorter range. So when you’re buying an EV with 500 miles range without a gas extender, which I think will be available when the scout comes out, it won’t actually add any range to have the same 500 mile capability from a combined battery and extender. The EV with the extender will still suffer the same penalties from cold temps etc and you still won’t be able to get gas anywhere there isn’t electricity. So the issue is still gross range, rather than having an extender. I’m pretty confident we will have an apples to apples comparison with a 500 mile R1 when the 500 mile Scout is available, so we will be able to find out the reality in about 2-3 years🤞 Either way, the scout is cool, but as a mechanic logically thinking this through, it’s not a real advantage but does come with significant disadvantages. If it was say 700-1000 miles range without the extender, that’s one thing, but having the same range as a pure EV, I just don’t think it helps as much as it harms. The problem with the I3 comparison is that the Scout will also have to run on CA spec🤷♂️ Even if it didn’t have to run that way and you could choose when it kicked on, it still is just choosing when you want to use the extra range. It’s not giving you more than a pure EV can. It’s just letting you choose when to use your full range.
Thanks for the PSA indeed. I can sympathize with someone not performing in a panic. That’s just how most people are wired. Fight or flight mode is not necessarily compatible with problem solving. Loving my rocket ship quad adventure. I also keep a glass breaker accessible in all our cars.
Very true, we all have our moments!
Wish RJ would make a comment on the least reliable rating
Good stuff. I really liked the dynamic lightning, but it wasn't until it was foggy where I could actually see the headlights move into a turn. I had no idea!
Thanks for sharing the clarification of it it illuminating to the left. I thought maybe my system was broken, but this video indeed helped me understand why they behave the way they do.
Glad it helped- thanks for watching!
lmfao you talk just like I would expect a rivian owner to sound
Like they were born in the UK in the 80s, lived there til they were 12, then moved to Minnesota until they joined the Army at 17, traveled the world, fought in combat, then got out after 6 years to focus on being a better Dad and lived in Sacramento, then Long Beach then finally settled in San Diego, only to get divorced, find the love of their life and have a bunch more kids, working blue collar jobs until becoming a stay at home Dad? Yeah, We’re pretty much all the same.
Great video! Living in California, how well is the tinted glass roof cut the heat from the sun? Does your head ever get hot from the glass roof? You've convinced me my next vehicle will be a Rivian R1T... I need a truck. Thanks in advance!
Love to hear it- let me know what you get when it shows up, you will not be disappointed! The glass roof does let in heat, but not from sunlight, only from ambient heat. So yes I will feel heat on my head if I sit in the parked car with no ac running on a hot day, even in the shade, but so long as the AC is running I feel nothing at all unless I actually hold my hand up to within a couple of inches of the glass. We’ve had a few other cars with pano roofs and they were horrible. Let lots of noise in and the sunlight was so strong through it that it felt like my bald head might burn. The pano in our Mach E my wife has was the first one that I actually thought was good, little noise and no sunlight that you can feel on your skin. Still lets in heat, but you don’t feel the sun on you. The Rivian is the same, not noisy and the heat that comes through isn’t felt on your skin or head, only up close the actual glass itself.
@ this is super helpful. Much appreciated. Thank you!
That's a big deal. Tell them to fix it haha
Yep! They’re on it: Rivian Service Experience, Round 2: Part 1 ua-cam.com/video/b2ZQvtU5skE/v-deo.html
Does your passenger seat have the little glove compartment thing under it? seems like some Gen2 have it for the passenger while others dont. not sure if it's because of the battery being moved there, but if so then does that mean not all Gen2 had their battery moved?
Yep, mine had the compartment on both seats but either that will need to come out or the whole seat might need to be removed for the battery to come out. It didn’t look obvious or easy to remove anyway. There may well be a simple trick in the manual for the techs, but I certainly didn’t see how in a brief look. I could touch the battery but only just.
Awesome video! After having it for a few months, what do you think of the Rivian Standard Audio?
Thanks! I actually love the standard audio, I think it’s great. My wife thinks it’s good too, but prefers her B+O sound system in her Mach E. I personally prefer the Rivian’s standard system, but the B+O is good, just feel like it’s missing the lows or something. The Rivian may be missing some of the clarity the B+O provides but is genuinely a great sound system overall. Audio seems so personal though, very much an individual experience that differs person to person. I’ve seen so much hate concerning this sound system, but I also saw tons of hate about the B+O system in the Mach e before we bought that too. No way to keep everyone happy I guess🤷♂️
@ I hear you about audio being a personal preference. $1750 is a lot of $$ on an upgraded sound system that many don’t seem to like right now. Hoping to find a demo unit that I can listen to the standard system to compare. Thanks for your input!
I'm in San Diego for work and had an opportunity to hear the "standard" audio system today at the Rivian Spaces location! I was pleasantly surprised with the standard audio system. I did a quick compare to the "premium" system and don't know that I could justify more $$ for the "premium audio". The bass is a bit fuller due to the Sub, but outside of that, I can't say that the differences were very noticeable =]
@ Good to know- I had only heard the previous Meridian system before I ordered mine and was nervous due to some of the statements I’d seen online about the standard. Glad it stacks up to the upgraded version too! I knew the upgraded one would be better, but I’m definitely satisfied with the standard version. Thanks for sharing and enjoy hanging out in San Diego!
Have you had any issues with the lfp pack not knowing the exact state of charge? Also, what have you towed and what was your wh/mile figures?
I haven’t had any problems with the LFP pack at all, it always seems to have accurate numbers. I’ve only towed the largest U-Haul trailer so far, it was packed to the gills with furniture and moving items for some family members in town. Didn’t go faster than 50mph so my mi/kwh was around 1.7. I think it weighed maybe 2-3k lbs but I have no way of knowing for sure. It was pretty light though.
Hey, I would highly recommend the Grizzle 48 amp charger over the Rivian. Much better build quality and zero issues. Of course it will not be $112 if you use a referral credit. But, if any of your viewers don't plan on getting referral credits then it is a much better and cheaper option. Not affiliated in any way, just super satisfied with mine.
I agree 100%! I had the 80amp Grizzl-E in my cart ready to go, but with the referral credits obviously the Rivian charger worked out to a better value. Thanks for putting that out there, it’s a good recommendation!
I never pay for options that don’t affect Form, Fit, or Function. Color is the biggest waste of money.
Yep I’d pretty much agree. I’d have been very happy with the free color, but Happy wife happy life and I like the green anyway so that’s what we got🤷♂️
Rivian is in the valley of death. Their path to profitability is murky. That path is difficult and uncertain. Don’t invest if you can’t stand to lose it all.
Yep that’s always the rule of investing regardless of the company for sure. That said I didn’t even touch on Amazons investment in Rivian or the fact that Ford still owns shares as well… It’s not a sure thing for Rivian, but I think they have a good chance at succeeding.
Great video!! A lot of people are very 'anxious' about buying their first EV, and feel they have to buy a battery with the absolute most charge in order to calm their range-anxiety. I've owned a Tesla now for 2 years (with NMC), and I never even think about how much capacity it has or how far I can go. I just drive it. I drive to San Diego regularly from Phoenix, and whether I had an LFP or NMC pack, it's a one-stop trip either way. Different strokes for different folks - but you're paying $7,000 more on a Rivian Large pack for roughly 60 additional miles of range, and generally you'll never see that range unless you charge to 100% on the NMC. Thanks for your videos - I really enjoy them!
100% I agree! Thanks for watching, if I see any teslas with AZ plates out here in San Diego I’ll be sure to wave!
@ it’ll likely be a Rivian soon ;)
@ Epic! Don’t forget to use a referral code- I’m sure you already know! Let me know what you get when you do, I absolutely love every trim of these things!
@@True_Dad Yup! I'll likely use yours :-)
I can't wait to get this. I don't want an ugly Tesla lol. Plus they're everywhere here in CA. I imagine its very fun to zip around in when no ones around with the instant torque and artificial acceleration noise.
Definitely it is! So much fun and it’s the most practical, capable, comfortable and safe vehicle I’ve ever owned! No artificial acceleration noise is much appreciated and the whine of the electric motors is epic under full throttle!
I have a Gen 2 base model R1S and I really only have one base model complaint. Which is they force Conserve Mode (front wheel drive) on the dual motor. It should be an option not the norm. The other complaint is with the R1S platform in general. And that is the suspension is not good. It's either super floaty and bouncy or super tight and rough. Not sure why they can't get it dialed in like the R1T. The forced Conserve Mode bothers me more than the suspension does though for sure.
I actually really like the suspension, but it does seem to be a love hate thing for people. I also agree with conserve mode- I wish there was an on/off feature, especially for bad weather scenarios etc. I know it’ll come on automatically if it detects slip, but I’d feel better being able to turn it on all the time if I want to.
There is a feature on your iPhone that detects when you are driving and will auto-respond back that you are driving after receiving a text message.
Yes and I appreciate that, but when a used Nissan Leaf has a capability- there’s no excuse for a brand new premium brand vehicle not to have that capability as well. It doesn’t have to be CarPlay, but there’s just no excuse for not having a text dictation system of some kind. In house or not, I don’t care it just needs to be resolved.
R are great cars and it's impressive they've built from the ground up. I wish them huge success. I (think) I support the fed's loan. Why though is T missing from your post? Great cars, great competitor, all American design and manufacturing, and they don't suffer from the legacy manufacturers. Why is fed policy, and now California's, working at odds with existing American success?
I think unfortunately that Tesla has become a political lightning rod due to the owners statements and political involvement. So I do still think they make some good products, but I have no personal experience with them other than riding in them. I do like them and would recommend them to people, especially used now there are some killer deals to be had! I’d agree, I think I support the loan as well, but time will tell. Hindsight is always 20/20. Generally I approve of the government supporting EVs with incentives etc, it’s disappointing that’s also become political, given that the government has wasted trillions with big oil and it’s much more difficult to follow that money than it is EV incentives…
Thank you for all the great insight! I've watched all your Rivian videos and dozens more. As an R1S dual-standard owner, I would love to get your thoughts on the Kia EV9 GT Line as a comparison. The EV9 GT Line is about $10K less (with Kia’s current incentives), supports Apple CarPlay, and all reviews praise its quiet cabin, right quality, and feature-rich functionality. Whereas Rivian's in-house compute hardware and software architecture, off-road capabilities, and direct sales/support model is the industry’s gold standard. I appreciate how busy you are as a dad (and congrats and good luck on your fifth). If you can make the time to test drive an EV9 GT Line, it would be immensely valuable to get your thoughts. Unfortunately, many of the available reviews compare base models of EV9 to incompatible higher end R1 S quads, etc. Thank you again for the great content.
Thanks for watching! I’d actually love to do a comparison like that myself- hopefully I can make that happen sooner rather than later🤞 I’ve sat in one and was really disappointed in the space inside and the cargo capacity, I cross shopped it until that point then let it go. I haven’t drive one though, it would make for a great video!
I’ve heard (from Out of Spec) the EV9 software is borderline unusable, but don’t have direct experience. Just swapped a Gen 1 for a Gen 2 and am now a full on Rivian fan boy. Definitely biased.
I subscribe to very few pages but I've subscribed to this one. Very basic, up front and real world advice and information.
Thank you! I appreciate knowing it’s helpful and not just white noise!
Latest interview with RJ provided some good info. They still have $6B in hand and that does not include the VW deal or the federal loan. Leased my Gen 2 R1S to hedge my bets a little. If they go down, they still own the car :)
Yes it was a surprisingly informative investor call they just had as well. I’m feeling very positive about them, but you never know. It’s not a certainty. Congrats on the R1S! Have you picked it up yet and what did you get?
@@True_Dad Picked our R1S out of inventory and took delivery in less than a week. Got a DM Lg pack with AT package. Rivian Blue with dark out.
@ beauty! I had to wait so long for mine, good to hear they’re in inventory now- wow!!
Agree with you. No matter what fancy SUV and new designs I look, Rivian looks the best and feels like a total package for everyone ( Outdoor, Road trips, Family, Utility). It has a timeless design and simplicity written all over it.
Great points!! 😊
Good review - but had the information of a 15 minute video especially with no images of the actual features described. Some basic gaps about range need to be included. I know of no EV buyer that would purchase a vehicle without that clear knowledge and in comparison with other similar vehicles.
Agreed, this video is an improvement I hope: SUPER COMPILATION! 5 months and 5k miles of life with a Rivian! My ownership- unpaid, honest review. ua-cam.com/video/BzYmN1syfTs/v-deo.html
disregard my last question.
Haha, just saw this too, my bad!
would you get a gen2 ?
Yep, this is a gen 2- so definitely! A lot of gen 1 quad owners are swapping to gen2 tri’s as well, so I think the general consensus is they’re an improvement.
Hey buddy. I have a R1S for about a year now. I’ve noticed a lot of rattles on the highway around the dash and doors. Have you noticed this too?
Nope, not a single squeak or rattle, besides what I showed in my original reliability videos with the squeaking door handles. Still have the door handle noise again, but nothing else currently. I’ve seen some videos of a Rivian tech fixing some dash rattles though- looked straight forward and simple enough if the service center is too far out?
Very clear and concise explanation. Thanks for this video, sir!
Great summary on the base model. I am really interested in this but for my few road trips there are a few spots where the chargers are gapped just enough that 92.5kw battery feels too small at 80mph. Need to do more research yet. Thanks for sharing your experiences!
Thanks for the video! Quick turn around time! 😆
What is the actual miles per Kw? I charge my Tesla X to 80%, drive until less than 30%. I charge back to 80% and miles divided by Kw added are 2.6 miles per Kw. The trip counter always shows about 10% better but True miles are topping back up an dividing
I get anywhere from 1.5-2.5 mi/kwh when I actually calculate. Depends on time of year and what I’m doing. So if I’m preconditioning the cab all the time during the summer, and then sitting in line waiting to pick up my kids 3 hrs a day without moving, it’s terrible and I’ll be right at 1.5-1.7. When it’s nice temps outside and I’m not “idling” forever, I’ll pop back up to 2.5 or so, the best I’ve actually ever calculated was 2.6 and I nearly fell over I was so surprised! 😂
How have you found certain aspects of the Dual Motor Standard? Does the less range concern you? I believe the DC charging of the standard LFP pack is actually better then the large and max packs, how have you found it? The other models you can equip the tinting glass roof, do you find the glass roof makes the car too hot? And lastly have you done any off roading beyond just gravel roads? How was it?
I’ve done what I’d call some light off roading, it’s been surprisingly good so far. Over in the Ocotillo Wells SCRA and messing around at fiesta Island in the deepest sand I could find. Less range doesn’t bother me at all, it’ll drive further on a single charge than my family can sit still in the car for. So by the time my family is ready for a break I just have a planned charging stop. I think the most important thing we’ve found is to make sure when we stop, that we can charge overnight wherever we are. Otherwise it can definitely drive further in a day than my family wants to on a single charge. I do think it charges well. Longest I’ve had to dc fast charge for was about 35 minutes. It definitely seems to charge well but the only EV without an LFP battery I have is our Leaf, which doesn’t really count. The roof does make it hot, but not as much as I was expecting. I don’t think the auto tinting would change that much. It’s not so much the sun shining through that’s an issue, it’s the fact that glass has basically zero insulation and qualities. So while the AC is running it’s plenty cool, but once it’s sat outside for a while it’s warmed up more than a car without a pano roof would. I’ve driven through the deserts in peak temps and it had no problem staying cool. Might make a quick video answering these questions too- thanks for asking!
@True_Dad thanks for that. Yeah I guess the vibe is how big do you perceive the trade offs to be going with the lowest model. And those are the main categories I can think of.
Did I click on a car review or a documentary about baldness?
Baldness is life. Watch the updated review- it’s got less of me in it🤓
it's not an hydraulic suspension DA.... it's a pneumatic suspension. These are hydraulic swaybars, derived from the McLaren... You don't even know your own vehicle?!?
Uhhhhh mechanic here. It’s more than hydraulic “sway bars”. The hydraulics are actually a part of the suspensions up and down movement and control at each corner. It’s not just limited to what a sway bar does, but yes it replaces them, thanks to the way it controls the vehicles movement. So yes, the suspension is both air and hydraulic. They aren’t sway bars. There is no need for sway bars as a result of how the hydraulics work. As someone that actually owns the vehicle and has had it up in Jack stands to do tire rotations and thoroughly inspected it all, and as an actual mechanic, I’ll trust my own opinion over an internet troll who thinks that a Rivian has sway bars…. DA🤣
@True_Dad lol, got an R1S myself and do all the suspension work on my model S (God knows there's quite a lot), and even though that's not my trade, I know that Rivian went and got an engineer from McLaren, making the connection and explaining the similarities with the 765lt and did use the term hydraulic swaybars for vulgarisation purposes. I'd expect a real mechanic to use the right terminology the first thing in his videos... good luck to your customers! DF 😂 (love this letter thing, anyone can interpret whatever they want! 🤣)
Being super straight together 😂🤣🤣
You had me at "it didn't explode in flames and burn my house down" Lol. Subscribed.
Scratching the car with the keys as you unlock them tho…😮😮
I legit worried about that😂 All the things I do for these videos🫠
It would be nice to 'see' what you're talking about, instead looking at you the whole time.
I’m definitely trying to do that more rather than keeping my ugly mug on screen so much too!😂
the reservations are at 80% for harvester right now, so you're in a minority. Also if I had to guess you live in an area with good infrastructure. Some parts of the country the charging infrastructure is horrible and using an EV on a long trip easily adds hours to your trip. Sure most days you only drive 30 miles but I feel like this is one of those narratives that doesn't truly capture the entire picture of most people's use cases that do include road trips and towing. Even if rare, EV's are still not ideal for road tripping and towing. This won't change until charging is about as fast as filling a tank of gas and energy density of batteries improves.
Sure, I definitely am going to be in the minority, but time will tell how effective the approach is. People definitely think they want it right now, but I think it’s just good marketing. You’re still going to have to stop and charge on a road trip. And the. Also get gas. While EVs in 2027 will capable of going further without needing any gas or extra maintenance. Like I said in the video- I may be wrong but we will see. We will all learn together on that one.
@@True_Dad There's no guarantee that you will need to charge AND get gas on a road trip. In fact I doubt that will be the case, but that's why real details on the range extender are necessary.
@ Time will tell… I still believe what I said in the video. You can do coast to coast road trips even all the way to Alaska currently with just a regular EV. There is no actual need for a range extender other than to help people feel more confident. I dont believe it’s actually going to extend range beyond what EVs will do already in 2027. I just don’t believe it’s going to be effective in real life other than to get people to make the initial jump from ICE to EVs. Each to their own and I know your situation and feelings about it, but I personally am not buying the marketing lines and don’t believe it’s going to bring any actual effective range to people. It’s going to bring ICE maintenance to an EV and reduce efficiency, while providing no actual additional range. It will allow some extra flexibility if you want to park and let it run for an hour to add range via gas… but I could bring a generator and do the same thing. Driving range without charging is not something that will actually be longer than comparable EVs at launch, but that’s just my opinion, so we will see. I still think it’s a great vehicle and it obviously appeals to many, I’m just not convinced that in reality it will meet expectations. It’s clearly a reworked/reduced cost R1, so I know it’ll be great. I’m not hating on anyone that likes them or is buying the range extender. I just don’t think it’ll work out like the marketing makes out.
@@True_Dad interesting. In what way do you feel the Scout resembles a reworked R1?
Oh it’s very clear that’s what it is. Look closely at the side mirrors and how they’re mounted. The entire dash shape and layout, the screens are identical, the operating software was literally the same even. The location and shape of the pillars and windows besides the last rear one on the Traveler. The entire silhouette. Even the Rims on the traveler are the same, just with one extra spoke. The shape of the entire frunk, it’s just split so the grill comes up with the hood instead of being left down…. I could go on. It’s undoubtedly an R1S. The Terra is even more easily distinguishable as an R1T. Anyone can listen to the call in which RJ formally admitted it’s a software and hardware venture, not just software like they initially hinted. I might make a video showing the comparisons even, it’s amazing how similar they are!
Why not just put in a small diesel and call it a day....go 800 miles on a tank of diesel. I guess that just makes too much sense!
I hear ya, I honestly think that does make more sense than adding a motor to an EV. It’s potentially the worst of both worlds. Personally I love my pure EV and I think that the Scout will sell well, but without actually being a better product than either a gas/diesel or electric vehicle.
government regulation and their definition of range extender. The extender cannot exceed the range of the EV side alone. this is the reason why the i3 in Europe performs much better than the US version.
@@damion0068 That’s true. I wonder why they don’t just call it a hybrid or something instead then, rather than making it worse in order to use a specific title?
This one part that I didn’t think about with their range extender as to where it really would fit and the extras with it. As for small motors Volkswagen Group also owns Ducati so there’s a small motor design too. I like the range extender for the purpose of Camping. You drive out to a place in the mountains and there aren’t many charging spots but plenty of gas stations. Not sure what the solar array would be required from Anker or the like to charge it on a mountain. Again thanks for the food for thought and I guess we will see in 3-4 years.
